thekeletal remains found in rock creek park. she had been missing for about a year. at the time she disappeared, she was romantically linked to married congressman gary condit. condit has repeatedly denied having anything to do with chancera dippearance. and when he wacalled to testify in this trial, he refused to talk about their relationship, saying, it was a private matter. on the stand today, alan giusti. he is an fbi dna expert. after chdra went missing in may 2001, her apartment was searched. a pair of her panties recovered. expert giusti said he found gary condit's dna on those panties. when chandra's remains were found in 2002, her underwear and tights sent to that fbi lab.

no dna found. however, six years later, this woman who works for a private lab said she found some male dna on chandra's tights. dna that doesn't match guandique's. the prosecutors argued that that touch dna came as a result of some could not atempt nation after the tights were removed from the park. now this on again, off again trial continues monday. this case could be in theands of the jury. next tuesday or wednesday. back to you. >> pat collins at d.c. superior court. thank you. elizabeth smart told jurors today man accused of kidnapping her was crud vulgar, and self-serving. smart showed a motion for the first time in the three days that she was on the witness stand shelf raised her voice as she explained how brian david mitchell showed no concern for her during her 9-month ordeal.

students took part in ma protest. they're angry about raising college tuition costs. nearly three time the current rate. the demonstration triggered a few clashes with police. thousands of people also marched to the british parliament. they said they're going to t to oust the lawmaker who voted in favor of the hike. and a call to a radio station had one of the lrgest school districts on lockdown. it beg about 11:00 this morning in broward county. it came after a woman called a radio station and that her husband might go to a school and start shooting. the rodeo station got an e-mail and said, something big was going to happen. the lockdown has been lifted. all the kids have been dismissed. the police are looking into the threat but no suspects have been identified. >> federal government is getting graphicin hope of getting smers to kick the habit. they are unveiling new warning labels featuring images of

breaking ns out of silver spring. montgomery county police say an emergency response to a bomb threat at a high rise in silver spng is causing some significant problems in the area. this is downtown silver spring we're talking about. the threatened building is at 8757 georgia avenue. georgia avenue is shut down both northbound and southbound between cameron and spring street. and you can see from that live picture, that nobody is moving anywhe very quickly in that area. again, the traffic at a stand still on georgia avenue in silver spring. if there is any update in this story, we will share it with you right away. tugboats are slowly pulling a carnival cruise ship back to the poverty san diego. therwas a fire in the engine room. it left 4500 passengers and the crew in the dark on monday. they're expected to reach the dock by tomorrow afternoon. in the meantime, navy helicopters are dropping off food and supplies.

hall was convicted of manslaughter in the death of 20-year-old brandon carroll and second degree assault against 22-year-old ellis hartridge of d.c. he pleaded guilty. fired ahotgun at both men in what he claimed was self-defense. the thirsty turtle can no longer serve alcohol. it voluntarily gave up its liquor license. it was revoke and they were set to revisit tonight. the thirsty turl has been und fire. maryland ofcials filed a formal complaint over election day robocalls. they claim that governor o'malley had one before the polls even closed. the complaint is against these two and a mpany called universal elections.

maryland's attorney general said that group made more than 112,000 recorded calls on election day. the defendants could be fined $500 for even violation. local, state, or federal prosecutors could brg criminal charges also against that group. there are reports today that an audit conducted by the state of maryland uncovered some troubling errors at the motor vehicle adnistration. the reports indicate that more than 1,300 drivers may have a revoked license and not even know it. e mva clarified the situation. chris gordon has the report. >> reporter: there are more than 4 million licensed drivers in maryla. of those, 170,000 carry commercial licenses to drive trucks and big rigs. during a recent audit, the maryland mva discovered a computer softwe problem that apparently fail to identify 139 commercial licenses that shoul have been suspended or revoked

because points were not properly recorded on the licenses. that has prompted the mva to voluntarily review more than 300 more licenses to make sure they shouldn't be suspended or revoked. >> we have already started reviewing all the cases that may have been impacted. once again i'm not sure where we are from the standpoint of the review process. question envig completing it by next year. so far we have not found any of th1356 cases to have been inappropriately handled. >> there will be problems with computers everywhere. >> reporter: they want to reassurehe public that drivers who operate on maryland highways are not using suspended or revoked licenses. they also addressed questions about the security of mva computers and how confidential they deep personal information we all give the mva.

there's a deep freeze across the potomac as they bring back the hospital attraction name ice. this year's theme is how the grinch stole christmas. for the past four week, chinese ice sculptors have been creating a frozen whoville. jane watrel has more. >> reporter: the chinese artisans put the finishing touches on the frozen world of the grinch. the classic dr. seuss christmas tale is the theme chosen for this year's ice attract at national harbor. >> it is a story that many people know and love. we're brging it to ice this year. you can walk through the pages of the story book. and we are so excited. when people come, th are just going to be amazed. >> reporter: there's whoville and the grinch as he first steals christmas and later has a

change of heart. 5,000 block of ice weighing over 2 million pounds have been transform by dens of trained sculptors like this man who calm from china to create whoville. he spend 12 years training for an event like this. >> it is a cold city. and we have a lot of ice here. so it gives him a chance. >> reporter: fortune initiated, while this is really cool, it also very cold. they keep the indoor temperature here at a brisk nine degrees. parkas are supplied to those gointhrough. the chinese sculptors have been working in these frosty conditions for the past month. the exhibit has been in its planning stages for a year. >> they followed the architectural plans. what people don't realize, these
