leslie. breaking news unfolding right now. prince george's county executive jack johnson aested and taken out of his house today by federal agents. meanwhile, federal authorities raid the county ad admistration building where he worked. that's not all. ta a good look. detectives also arrested his wife. in this exclusive video, you can see she's covering her face wit a sweater. leie johnson was just elected to the county council earlier this month. good afternoon, everybody. the long-me county executive was removed from his home today in handcuffs. rocking the prince george's county political world. i'm jim handly. >> and i'm wendy rieger sitting in for pat lawson muse. we are awaiting a press conference for the latest on the arrest of jack johnson and the particular surroundings thi johnsons have a court hearing at 4:15 today and the press conference will immediately follow it. we will brg it to you as soon as it happens. all of this unfolded around noon

today. multiple search warrants were executed at several locations in prince george's county including johnson's home in mitchellville. tracee wilkins was first on the scene when fbi agents arrived. she is live at their me. how did this arrest unfold? >> well, it was an amazing situation to watch. it was very clear, wendy, that the count executive was not expecting them. hicar was sitting out here with the motor running waiting for him to come out of home. his driver said he was there to pick the coun executive up. anwhile inside his home, a number of agents. here inside the house as we speak, there are still agents inside the house. just a few seconds ago, one of those agts left carrying a box of evidence he pulled off with the rest of the vehicles you see here. ese are all federal agents, they are still working inside that house. on the first floor there was a broken out wind poe has now been repaired, presumably from when this rai began earlier this

morning. but yes, the prince george's county executive was taken out of his home in handcuffs. just aer 12:30 this afternoon, the executive jack johnson and his wife were taken into federal custody at their bowie home. agents with thebi and irs took the couple into custody one at a time in separate investigations. mrs. leslie johnson who was just elected tohe district six prince george's county council se was brout out of her home first with her head covered. mr. johnson followed, walk enly in handcuffs but refused to answer rerters' questions. soon after the couple lef a master plumber arrived at the home. he said he was call in by fbi agents to recover possible ushed evidencerom inside the home. you're down here to make sure nothing has been flushed. havehey told you what they think may have been flushed? >> i don't know any of the details. they're not telling me a whole lot. they're just asking me to check a couple thing. >> reporter: this was not a

schedule. you were called by the agents to come in here and check. >> right. i was called by the fbi, right. >> reporter: according to that plumber, no evidence was found. he left the scene here there after them brought in some repairmen to repair that bron window on the first floor. athis point there is no specific information on exact what i these two have been charged with and why they were taken into custody. as we said, we know that fbi agents were on the scene. we know the irs agents were here on the scene. the two were taken in separate vehicles. we also know in the past, the county executive has bee investigated specifically for dealings with contracts here in the county. contracts worth millions that supposedly went to friends but he was never convicted or indicted of anything, with any of those investigations. this morning, he was taken into custody. live this morning in bowie. back to you in the studio. >> thank you. >> jack johnson has been a major player in local politics for many, many years. arrest getting a law degree from

howard university, he worked as a tax professor at a north carolina law school. and then as an attorney for the irs's chief of counsel. when he moved to prince george's county, he served as deputy state'attorney and then state's attney, in 1994, a position in which he served two term. in 2002 he was elected and reelected in 2006. and according to his website, during his tenure, he has increased the county's budget by more than $1 billion. along with building nine schools and being a key player in the development of national harbor. our live team coverage continues in green belt, maryland, where jack johnson and his wife are about to appear in court. john schriffen is there with the very latest. >> reporter: that's right. we are anxiously awaiting the first court appearance of jack johnson as well as his wife leslie johnson. both were arrested at their home earlier today. as we look at the at their

arrest, we want to look at what's going on in the courthouse. we were told both would appear in court sometime around 3:00 p.m. that did not happen and we have just learned the court appearance has been pushed back. we've learned the county executive jack johnson will appear in court for the first time sometime around 4:15, a little bit from now, and then about 15 minutes later, his wife leslie johnson will also appear in court. now at this time, we still do not know what they were arrested for. what we do ow is that there areultiple federal agencies involved in this investigation. we're expecting to hear from those agencies as soon as jack johnson and his wife hve naerd court. we will hear from u.s. attorney rod rosenstein. and then we will hear from rebecca sparkman, withhe irs criminal investigation unit. now it is quite a scene here at the courthouse. over a dozen media outlets are here from as far as baltimore.

breaking news from north carolina where police say remains were found feared to be that of the missing 10ear-old girl. zahra baker was report missing on october 9th. since then investigators have been searching areas near her home in cal we will county. on wednesday theyncovered a bone near a creek bank. police say dna evidence show it does belong to zahra. no charge have been filed. the father of a child missing now for nearly six months is revealing new allegations about his estranged wife. kirn horman seem to have vanished in ju withou a trace. the child's stepmother has been under suspicn. >> i have every reason to believe it has something to do

breaking news right now unfolding in prince george's county. earlier today, county executive jack johnson was arrested here his mitchellville home led away in handcuffs. his wife was also arrested. fbi agents took the couple into custody just after noon. ey faced their first court appearance any minute now. that's when official charges will be unveiled. the arrest followed the search of several county offices and the johnson home. again,e're awaiting the news conference on this case. there is a live picture now as photographers and reporters get prepared at the podium now. we understand the court is waiting for johnson's attorney to arrive andhat should be at any moment. otherews today, the passenger on the carnival cruise ship splendor who wer stalled out there without any power, they're still talking about how lovely it was to be there. investigators are trying to figure out what caused the fire that left that massive vessel powerless. miguel has that story.

>> reporter: a glimpse on board the splendor and our first look at the first sign of trouble. home video shows smoke from a fi that crippled the gigantic ship 200 miles out at sea. david zambrano was on board with his girlfriend. at 6:00 al, he realized something was terribly wrong. >> i woke up to the smell of smoke. so i immediately knew something was inside. my gut will me something was happening. >> reporter: passenger stumbled out of their rooms. the ship's crew tried to keep everyone calm. >> there is absolutely nothing to worry about. if there was, i would tell you. >> reporter: soon the fire was contained but the splendor lost power and propulsion. the ship began to sway side to side. >> it was devastating. >> this is nothing for them. >> reporter: it didn't take long for some passenger to get sick.

grieves with drew it. so far police say he hasn't committed any crime. police are also offering protection to him after threats made against him. a former unersity of tennessee college student will spend one year and a day in a halfway house for hacking into sarah palin's e-mail. 22-year-old david was sentenced in knoxville today. a jury found him guilty of object struck of justice and unauthorizedaccess to her e-mails. he gained access to the account back in september of 2008 during the presidential campaign. he was also sentced to three years probation. a couple into spent years helping wounded warriors recover from the injuries they suffered in wars in iraq a afghanistan found love in the process. mike taibbi introduces us to this couple. >> reporter: a west point wedding at summer's end. the groom a graduate. the bride, the uso troop member who once sang to h. what brought jena griffin and

a pet cemetery lost the remains of this woman's dog. >> reporter: when joan harris adopted her pomeranian in 2007, he had been rescued from a puppy mill and was in bad shape. >> he had just learned how to walk because he was kept in a cage 24/7. he ate standing up, he slept standing up. >> reporter: teddy recently died

after a short illness and harris had him cremated. then she said she got a shocking phone call from valley pet cemete cemetery. his ashes had been lost. >> i was devastated i didn't know how to rct lt. >> reporter: a company says the remains were in a wooden box like this and that box was placed inside a cardboard box. the contain apparently fell out of the back of the truck when the driver forgot to close the door. it happened somewhere between gaithersburg and southern maryland. she said she's walked mile trying to find that rectangular box. >> i feel it is so unjust for this little animal, that he was born in such a horfic thng. it is lake he's trash is how i felt. >> valley pet manager david drury tells news4, this is the first time a pet's remains have been lost in the company's 30-year history. something like this is the last thing we would want to happen to a family, he said.
