three prince george's county police officers in two indictments. the first involves the owner of a liquor store in college park. he is accud of paying off officers to ensure the transport of untaxed cigarettes and alcohol. also conspiring to distribute cocaine. chris gordon joins us from u.s. district court in greenbelt with more. >> reporter: good evening. publicer is advance representing two of the proffers county branches of government have been arrested in less than a week. last friday was prince george's county executive jack johnson and today, three members of the county police force. fbi agents executed search warrants and arrested three prince george's county police officers and six civilians on corruption charges. i asked if this investigation is connected in any way to last week's arrest of county executive jack johnson and his wife leslie. >> we have ongoing right now, a

series of related corruption investigations here in prince george's county. we're not going to talk about wh if any connections there might be among the investigations. >> reporter: this was the scene in laurel, maryland, at the home of prince george's county police sergeant richard delabrer who along withorporal chong chin kim is charged with conspiracy to commit extortion by interfering with commerce. the officers allegedly took payments from the owners of liquor stores. the mhis. in a could be spearcy to transport untaxed alcohol and cigarettes in maryland and virginia. if convicted they could be sentenced to 20 years and forfeit property. >> this investigation has been ongoing for some time. it has been a joint corroborative effort with the prince george's police department who have been of tremendous assistance in the investigation, including the

arrests today. >> reporter: the second indictment charges two woodbridge men with conspiracy. agents searched the home of the police officer sinisa simic arresting him and another suspect, it cod result in a sentence of life in prison with a minimum of five additional years of the gun charges. >> public officials hold positions trust and are held to the highest standard. they should be an example to the citizens they serve. >> the indictments charge these ofcers crossed the bright line from catching criminals to assisting criminals in committing serious criminal violations. >> reporter: the u.s. attorney last friday said the arrest of jack johnson was just the tip of the iceberg. he was asked, today's arrest, do they constitute the rest of the iceberg? he seemed to indicate that this is an ongoing investigation and that he anticipates more charges and more arrests. we're live at the u.s.

courthouse in greenbelt, maryland. back to you in the studio. >> okay. thank you. ounty executive jack johnson was back in his ofice after his arrest last week. despite the distractions, he made it seem as though it was business as usual. derrick ward has more on this story. i think it would be a tough argument to make that this is another day at the office for the county ecutive. amid all those charges and th ongoing investigation. he did talk to reporters this morning and he tried to ensure county residents that despite all of those things, he still had the business of running the county at hand and the last days of his administration. after the end of theast week, a day at th office must have been a welcome respite for county executive jack johnson. under the term of his releasering hasto wear an electronic monitoring bracelet and only travel to work or his attorney's office. he said today, he's had plenty of contact with his supporters.

dropped against ingmar guandique. he is the man on trial for the murder of chandra levy. this comes on what could be the fugitive day of testimony in that case. in other developments today, jurors heard from another cell mate of the defendant. and an audio message from former congressman gary condit was released. we're learning more about the make-up of the jury. pat collinss at d.c. superior court with this. >> reporter: the felony charge against ingmar guandique dropping like flies. first nine. then six. then four. now today just two. two more felony charges against ingmar guandique off the books. dropped. attempted kidnapping charge. dropped. attempted robbery charge. taken off the table because the statute limitations has run

out. left in play, two first-degree murder charges. this as another cell mate of guandique testifies this time for the defense. appearing at superior court to a closed circuit television hook-up, jose. he says he was in jail with ingmar guandique in the big sandy prison in kentucky. he said he ner heard guandique mention the name chandra levy. he said i didn't hear him say anything about what he was charged for. he called to counteract armando morales, another guandique cell mate called by the prosecution. morales testified that guandique confessed to him about the murder. 29-year-old ingm guandique charged in the murder of chandra levy. the skeletal remains of the 24-year-old intern found in rock creek park in may 2002. she had been missing for about a

year. also toay, some messages left on chandra's phone by gary condit. the married california congressman linked to the intern. >> six days since i haven't heard from you. maybe you're out of the country or something. give me a call if you get this message. >> reporter: condit has repeatedly denied havin anythi to do with chandra's disappearance. when he was called to court, he refused to talk about his relationship wh chandra, saying it was a private matter. but an fbi expert said he found condit's dna on chandra's underwear. more information about the jury in this case. four men, 12 women, including four alternates. the average age, 47. e jury includes four government workers and two journalists. five have college degrees. five have some post college

there was horrible deadly fire in china. at least 42 people are dead.

investigators believe the fire may have been triggered by the renovation work. building the housed a number of retired teachers. some of them managed to escape by climbing down the scaffolding around the building. > police say the missing family members of a kidnapped teenager may be dead. officered found sarah maynard bound and gagged inside this home in cntral ohio yesterday. police arrested 30-year-old matthew hoffman on kidnapping charges. investigators say there was a lot of bld in the family home. the sheriff wants to stay optimistic about finding them but that is getting harder to do. >> you have to be just realistic. there is a possibility that these folksare dead. >> sarah maynard was taken to the hospital and treated for injuries that are not life threatening. a teenager in california whose school told him to remove an american flag from his bicycle went to class today with

a patriotic escort. this mning more than 500 bikers escorted 13-year-old cody alicia to school. all of them riding with flags on their bikes. cody said he was overwhelmed by it all. >> it means a lot to me. it is really nice tt all these people are supporting me. and just -- >> what do you think of the message you're sending with this? >> i thi everyone will remember this. >> school officials originally told cody to remove the flag. they said se other students had complained. they've since change their minds. congress returned to capitol hill for a lame duck session. meanwhile, freshman members returned for orientation. there has been a lot of speculation about how old guard republican there's adapt to the tea party members.

we're still a 58 degrees. humidity at 77%. so the more humid the atmosphere is, when it is cooler, itoes make it feel colder. that what we're dealing with. the winds should not be a problem. the winds are out of the east at five miles an hour. 50 in baltimore, 50 toward annapolis. 49 at the air force base. around the clinton area. manassas is the cool spot, normally is, about degrees. what will we be seeing? on radar, no rain expected right now over the next couple hours. you can see where the rain is. back toward the west. back toward harrisonburg. danville, virginia, close to the richmond area off to the west prg rain will continue to work its way in for tonigh for the game, i expect nice conditions. nice game, nice weather for a football. coolnd cloudy, we will see the clouds connue to thicken and lower. and maybe a couple of showers by the time the game is ending by around 11:00 or 11:30.

if you are making your way to the game, you mayeed the umbrella on the way out. for the most part, any rain that does fall at that time will be rather light. where is the rain now? that storm is a pretty potent storm system. it will bring us a half inch of rain. as it does, we will see some of those temperatures fall behind the storm. it will be rather windy behind the storm. 46 toward cincinnati. that area of low pressure making its way up to the north and et toward our area. it will pass us just off to the west. that puts us where e most rainfall will be falling. about a half inch of rain in most locations tomorrow morning. and en right through e day tomorrow, we may see some periods of moderate to maybe heavy rain. it will be a quick mover in behind it. very windy conditions starting tomorrow night into the day on wednesday. we could see winds gusting upwards of 20 to maybe 30 miles an hour. wednesday will be a rather cool day.

then a lot cooler air moves in as another system moves in on thursday and friday. mostly cloudy and cool this evening. 50 to 55 degrees. winds out of the east ative miles an hour. overnight, we'lltart to see that rain move in. by tomorrow morning, expect wet roadways. 49 to say, 44 degrees. through the day, expect moderate rain at times. ahead of the storm on the warmer side. we'll fall back below average thursday into friday. highs on wedsday, still warm with that west wind. 58 on thursday, 52 on friday. as we move into the week, right now it is not looking too bad. we are going to be watching temperatures that will climb as we move into next week. maybe into the upper 50s. to near 60 degrees on sunday. a quk look at what's going. on i'll tell you what's going on with the players but i'll leave the sports to the sports guys

levy murder trial dpped two more charges against ingmar guandique today. now only first degree charges remain. closingrguments in that trial could begin as early as tomorrow. more now on our top story. the fbi arrested nine people including three prince george's county police officers in two separate investigations today. >> in one case, a 25-year-old is facing drug charges. in the other, a45-year-old sergeant and a 42-year-old corporal have been charged in an investigation involving alcohol and cigarettes. julie carey has our port. >> reporter: irs police spent hours inside several prince george's county liquor stores all owd by this man and his wife. agents carted evidence to waiting vehicles. inside they filled bos with liquor and beer. they accused them of paying two

police officers to help transport cigarettes and alcohol that were untaxed in virginia and marynd into his stores. the two officers are larnlgd alon with two other county men in the scheme. both worked for him providing offduty security. the police chief said his department helped the fbi make the arrest today. >> i'm outraged. at the disgracefulconduct demonstrated by three of our office here's tarshed our badge for their own greed and personal gain. >> reporter: back at tick tock as investigators gathered evidence, customers and liquor sasmen found locked doors. this beer salesman who deals with them said he is not surprised with the indictment. >> i believe it. he seems like he would do anything to make a buck. >> reporter: and this customer who didn't want to be identified said he alway buys his cigarettes at the store for well below what he pays elsewhere. how much would cigarettes be

here compared to somewhere else? >> like 35% off. >> reporter: similar raids were carried off around the country. at discount liquor and in greenbelt. today investigators also converged on melhi's $2 million home in clarksville, maryland. the police chief said this chase prompt a full scale review of the department policy about offduty employment of officers, including which jobs are appropriate. >> there are locations and places our officers areeing contracted to work. the u.s. attorney for maryland said there could be more arrests in this case. >> reporter: the fairfax county police are looking for the mother of a newborn bof cabrch . someone left the baby girl outside st. raymond's church in springfield. a church found her in the -- a church mber found her in the parking lot.

she was in towel in a gym bag. doctors say she is healthy but police stay mother may need medical tang since sheikely did not see a doctor before ging birth. the fbi is offering a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the rash of military related shootings in our area. agents say the same gun is connected to five recent shootings in our area that targeted pentagon, the marine corps museum and military recruiting centers. the fbi believes the shooter either lives or work in northern virginia. a marine, a teenager from our area, killed last month in afghanistan, has now been laid to rest. lance corporal terry honeycut . was laid to rest this afternoon. he graduated from north point high school last year in waldorf, maryland. his parents say he wanted to join the military after high school to, in his words, make a difference in the world. lance corporal honeycutt was 19

years old. fear that a 100-year flood could devastate much of washington, d.c. is prompting officials to construct a $5 million levy that would go up right across 17th street and hold back the water near washington monument. tom sherwood has loo at the plans. >> reporter: the summer of 2006. torrential rains flooded the irs headquarters and other buildgs displacing thousands of federal workers. they couldn't move back for six months. but that flooding would be minor compared to fears that a 100-year potomac flood could, shown on this map, devastated much of downtown d.c. the water filling the geographic bowl that helped shape the area. >> the question is, how bad can it get? and kit get a lot worse than what we're planning to deal with here. and clearly, there are absolutely huge storm that occur maybe once every 500 years. >> reporter: federal and city officials monday moved to head off any calaty while planning to build the $5 million movable

levy. it will span 17th street near constitution avenue. a wall that in the worst case could hold back 19 feet of water rushing toward downtown. >> otherwise, what would happen is there would be a massive amount of flooding that would affect the businesses and people who own home in that area. and if anybody has ever been through a flooding event, that's the impact we're talking about. >> reporter: in the past, officials had planned to use barriers and sandbags. but federal rules imposed after the devastation of katrina in new orleans require a more substantial plan. and the year-long construction of the site could have a big imthat can on daily commuter sites on 17th street. >> we're very sensitive to the fact this is a highly used roadway will we'll tray to minimize the disturbance as much as possible. >> reporter: news4washington. >> without the 17th street 11y, about 2,000 property owners in the area would probably be forced to buy flood insurance. and officials said that could cost about $1500 for each

an expensive bd-aid to a lot of people out there. saw you the drama that it caused donovan. people were looking at the organization saying do they have any belief in him, and then th. and people wonder, does he have five years left? >> he'll be 39 years wloeld the contract is up. the benching early, a bump in the road when you invest in second and third round pick and you make the trade. the first big thing you've done during your tenure, you don't want to say it is a failure already. you're investing in it. you're investing but you want to make sure you protect that investment. donovan mcnabb so far really has looked like a rag doll. specially last time they played. he couldn't stay on his feet because the offensive line was just awful. let me take you back to that game. the eagles know what the redski' weakness is. their offensive line. they did not protect mcnabb and they didn't do much to protect. six on the total day. you can say that mcnabb at times gave the team a chance.
