player did an about face on a long-held political policy. and a b deal is said to be on the works on bush era tax cuts. tracie potts joins us from washington with more. >> reporter: lynn, good morning. good morning, everyone. the lame duck session is generally not very exciti, but yesterday it started with a surprising announcementrom the senate majority leader mitch mcconnell saying that he is reversing course on earmarks those pet projects that are often packed in spending bills allowing for those projects to be done back home. he is now versing his position suggesting the should be a ban on these earmarks. tea party influence said to be huge here. mcconnell said on the floor yesterday that old habits aren easy to break but the gop caucus will be voting on that today. now, the other big issue that this cgress has to deal with before the end of the year are taxes. the bush tax cuts.

the issue is do you continue tax breaks for people who make over $250,000. both sides seem to be bending. the white house said president obama is eager to talk about this. democrats ar talking about perhaps raising the limit to $1 million. the gop says there should be absolutely no increase for anyone. at this oint, it looks like there will away quick compromise on tax cuts for everyone, extending themt least one year. lynn. yesterday, a dramatic scene unfolded when charles wrangle walked out of his ethics trial saying he couldn't afford his lawyer. the house ethics committee moved ahead with the evidce and ruled that there was enough evidence to support 13 counts of accusations. among those accusations, not aying certain taxes and getting
