area. there's a bit of snow coming our way. good evening. i'm jim vance. doreen is off tonight. not expecting very much, but it doesn't take very much, does it, around here to create all kinds of problems. we begin our coverage with doug kammerer in the weather center. doug, how much and when? >> you're right, it's not going to be a whole lot of snow, but the timing, which i mean the last couple of days, could pose a problem, because even though we're getting one to two inches, that one to two inches could stick to roadways and cause proble early on. clear skies right now, wind chill of 16, still, so we're still dealing with a very cold atmosphere. 21 in fredeck, 19 in hagerstown, 21 in sterling. a wind chill of 7 in manassas. very cold tonight. it will be very td tomorrow morning, and that's when the snow is supposed to start. the snow will be making its way

toward us. you can see it moving through thohio valley. that's why we have the wint weather advisory, something different than earlier that has now been pushed to the north. including montgomery county, prince george's, other parts of northern virginia as well for the potential of up to two inches of snow. once again, this will stick on the roadways and that's where we could see our problems tomorrow. jim? >> doug, thanks chl. it was a year ago this week that a nor'easter dumped a lot of snow in this area. john shiffer in alexandria now. john? >> for tomorrow's snowstorm, on a level of 1 to 5 with being the worst, it has the level of preparedness of about a level 2 with mobilization of crews out on the road. but at any moment, officials say they can make a call and boost that up to a level 3 or 4, sending more crews out on the road.

because the key this year is not to be caught unprepared. are you ready forsnow again? >> no. not really. but, you know, you have to do whatou have to do. >> after last winter, snow snowmaddon that left most of our area paralyzed, most of the residents are ready for the snow. >> last year i had a snowmobile, this year i have a 4x4. >> i think i'll buy a shovel in adnce. >> he certainly won't be the only one. >> when you do shovel, try shoveling to the right. >> the virginia department of transportation tried toxplain to residents what they're doing dierent this year, especially with their fleet of plows. >> this year we'll have as many as 1800, so we've almost tripled the size. >> even though we're not expecting any more than a few inches thursday, they will stay

join will replace veneer. we also just lrned that kenneth ellerbe will be named fire chief. the d.c. police are looking for a burglar who taund his victims through facebook. somebody broke into the house of "washington post" journalist mark fisher last ii. the burglar stole an ipod, sme money, a computer, and a new winter coat. he then took a picture of himself wearing the stolen coat and holding the stolen money. he opened the son's computer and posted the picture on the teenager's facebook page. with a sneer on his face and his fingers pointing to just what he had gotten from our house was meant to taunt and to gloat, and it certaly had this emotional power especially because it invaded this space that my son

thought of as very private. >> facebook said they are cooperating with the investigation. a judge in virgin tonight is reviewing the medical records of yeardley love. today defense lawyers for the university of virginia student who accused of killing her made a rather unexpected request. craig melvin has our report. >> reporter: a few days ago, there was actually talk that attorneys for george hugely, yeardley love's on agaioff again boyfriend were close to reaching a deal with prosecutors. today they asked for yeardley love's medical records. they hope to prove that hugely's actions, while traumatic, did not cause her dth. it was testified that yeardley love had an abnormal heartbeat, and that because of that condition, she likely died from absence of oxygen to the brain. they had some detailed

photographs. the doctor said that love's medical record could answer several questions. among them, did she suffer from chronic shortness of breath? did she have frequent chest pain? was she chronically tired? was she on medicine that might cause an abnormal heartbeat? meanwhile, the current chief medical examiner who performed the autopsy on love's body concluded that she died from blunt force trauma to the head. prosecutors are calling the defense's request a fishing expedition. but the charlottesville judge has decided that he will review love's medical records to determine whether they should be released to hugely attorneys. there is another hearing set for january 21st. george hugely is from chevy chase. he went to the prestigious landing school. if convicted, he could face the rest of his life prison. craig melvin, news4. general safety offials voted today to ban all drop side cribbs. those cribs have been very

popular because of amovable side rail that allows easy access to babies. but on some cribs, that rail becomes loose, and that could chop a baby's head or neck. over 30 babies ha died in the last ten years. the ban resicts the use of making them. daycare centers have a year to buy new cribs. coming up tonight, mayor berry's car stolen. more trouble for the metrodome. we'll tell you why. a huge fire in downtown baltimore, and michael vick says he wants a new dog. how about sports, dan? going to squash those rumors. none too pleased with his buddy cliff lee who signed with the phillies. plus the capitols p it all on here's to the believers.

. federal investigators now believe th somebody set a five-alarm fire in downtown baltimore last week. a fire broke out in a neighborhood called the block. it caused about $3 million in damages. three strip clubs and an adult bookstore were destroyed. several city offices were damaged. investigatorare not sure i that fire was set by somebody trying to cause harm or somebody trying to stay warm. d.c. councilmember marion barry learned a valuable lesson about leaving the keys in the ignition. councilman barry parked his car outside the patricia r. harris education center on saturday. when he returned the car was gone, a 2002 jaguar. somebody stole it. it was recovered yesterday in ward 7. nobody arrested yet. barry also had a car stolen back in 1993.

there's yet another hole in the roof of the minneapolis metrodome. three panels of that roof tore on sunday after the roof collapse under t weight of 17 inches of snow. the spokman for the stadium says a fourth panel tore open this afteron. that dumped even more snow onto the field. it's not clear when that roof will be fixed or when the vikings will be able to play at the metrodome again. still to come tight, a former fbi worker found shot and killed in her apartment in arlington, and now 20 years later, police are taking a new look at her cold case. also, doug will be

jobs, became a pression photographer a she was 30 years old when she was murdered in arlington. that was back in 1988. police are still looking for her killer. joe krebs has this cold case report. >> reporter: connie hultsman was 38 years old when she was killed 22 years ago in arlington. >> connie lived for the day. she was very caring, happy. >> on november 9, 1988 at about 8:00 p.m., we had received a 911 call for a woman screaming, and as sooas we were en route there, they got another call updating it, saying they thought shots were being fired. >> reporter: on the night of her murder, she had come home from work, from shopping, and was in her kitchen baking a pumpkin pie to take on a cruise the next day with her boyfriend on his boat. in fact, shead just spoken to him on the phone minutes before she was killed. >> they were going to take a

cruise. he had a yacht where they were going to cruise down the caribbean. the officers went into the building. they were directed to apartment 21 where hultsman lived. thdoor was slightly ajar. he purse was laying just outside the apartment door on the landing area in the hallway. >> reporter: police went into the apartment and found connie hultsman in her bedroom. >> they tried to open the bedroom door. there was some resistance from the other se. they were event waually able to open it enough to see that ms. hultsman had been killed. the suspects were able to force the door open a little bit and at least get their hand in enou tofire the shot that did kill her. >> reporter: investigators found bullet holes in the bedom walls. >>ive every day like it's your last. >> reporter: gary hultsman has been a police officer in ocean

city, maryland for more than 26 ars. >> i want to see justice done, i really do. i want to see them get the death penalty, or i want to see them spend life in jail. it's not all about the closure, it's justice. >> reporter: he thinks his sister might have been killed because someone thought she had overheard conversations about a drug deal. >> well, that was an avenue, and i know detectives back then did explore and other avenues also. >> reporter: connie hultsman's father has since passed away, and the rers st of her family i struling with the impact of her murder. >> i would never wish this on anybody, but for them to spend a little time in my shoes or family's shoes, they wouldn't have. >> reporter: joe krebs, news4, washington. >> if you can help solve this cold case, the hultsman family and the detectives would appreciate it if you would call the arlington police criminal investigations division.

they're at 703-228-4242. so, going to get our first measurab, significant snow of the year? >> yes. some areas have seen a little bit. it only takes an inch in this type of weather to cause some problems, so evethough we won't see a whole lot of snow, people tomorrow afternoon will say, that wasn't a whole lot of snow, while others, if you're caught in it on the roadways, may think difrently. it's cold outside and it is dark as well. temperatures tonight? they're down into the 20s already. down to 25 degrees right now after a high today of only 34, but hey, at least we got above freezing. yesterday our high temperature was only 28 degrees, so six degrees warmer. during the day today, average high temperature 47. 14 out of 15 days in december have been below average and that is th coldest december in ten years. amazingly cold weather, and that's what you need for some

snow andhat's what we're going to get. wind chill 16 degrees. we're still dealing with the wind chill though the winds are dying down now. about 10 miles an hour at the most. hagerstown, 21. quantico and la plata, 22. sn is back toward the west. not a whole lot going on in our area right now. we're still dealing with clear skies, but here's the storm system. a lot of snow from the canadian border all the way down to the south into western portions of north carolina. the area of low pressure, though, is finally starting to take control here ask it's going to make its way our way. by around 8:00 tomorr, we'll start to see the snow impact our suburbs. then making its way up 66, right into d.c., probably around 9:00 in the morning. so most of the rush should be okay, but as soon as that snow does start to fall, it will start to stick very quickly.

during the day, we'll see that low pressu pass to the south. that's where most of the snow will be as well. the most anybody will get is three to five inches, and that's down toward the richmond area. it does not include us. by friday, high pressure, though friday is still looking like a ce day. why is it in the metro area? that's because of that snow on the roadways and that'swhat we're going to see. one to two inches in the d.c. area. two to three in fredericksburg, maybe a tad more, but that will be about it. it should be out of here by 6:00 or 7:00 tomorrow night. with that snow moving in, it will stick. tomorrow afternoon, cloudy with snow, light to moderate at times. 28 to 30 degrees. less wind tomorrow, so not quite as cold and then warming up friday and saturday, highs only in the upper 30s. sunday i have dry for now. that storm system is going to make its waywell off the coast, and as we look toward the ext d extended forecast, we just stay ld.
