a woman killed when she was run over by a hotel shtle bus. good evening. i'm jim vance. doreen is off tonight. that accident happened at a s light at the king street metro station in alexandria. it happenedabout 6:00. darcy has more. darcy? >> reporter: the victim was running across the parng lot earlier here this evening. apparentlshe was in a hurry to try to catch a metro train or bus, and that's when she was struck and killed by a van here in the parking lot. authorities say the van driver did remain here on the scene and is cooperating with authorities. this is video of that van described by authorities as a shuttle for an area hotel. police sayhe victim apparently ran in front of the van just after 6:00 tonight. she died at an area hospital about one hour later. an accident reconstruction team was here for several hours tonight. the van driver was questioned by police. her status at this point is unknown. authorities say the victim was a

25-year-old woman from maryland. at this point they did not release her identity. apparently she was running towards the metro station and ran in front of the van which struck her, and that was . we're just reminding pedestrians to be careful when they're crossing the street, crossing parking lights, reminding them drivers can't always see them particularly if they're dressed in dark clothing. >> the buses do a good job here. they stop at the pedestrian crosswalk here,ut once you get back here, but f the little stop where the trolley comes, you're on your own. >> this is the first pedestrian fatalityere in the city of alexandria so far this year. it's unclear whether any charges will be filed in this case. reporting live from alexandria, darcy spencer, news4. jim, back to you. >> thapgs, darcy. an unusual accident killed an accident at a quarry just south of fredericksburg, maryland tonight.

tonight two months after a man died aftern altercation with the bouncers at that club. charges later were dropped. the ethiopian community has been very vocal about what they feel is injustice in this case. mohammad was an ethiopian american. police marked outside the club to make sure there was no trouble there. dc9 must now perform mandatory background chks on all of its employees. president obama signed the tax bill into law today. that bill keeps the bush era tax cuts for two more years. it extends unemployment benefits and payroll tax breaks for another year. it also gives wealthy americans another break on the state taxes. many democrats are upset with the compromise. but the president says it is necessary to keep the middle class lifeline. >> this is really money that's going to make a real difference in people's lives.

here, but here's the storm toward the south trying to take shape, trying to strengthen. it will continue to do so. here it comes up the coast. as it mak its way up the coast, it hits the critical point here. right off cape hatteras. last year this storm moved right up the coast and dumped a lot of snow on the i-95 corridor, but this year they just can't make the turn and it will stay out to sea moving away from us, gig vi us minimal impact. we may not see any snow at all. to the east, del mar, maybe the beaches, the best chance of seeing a few flakes. partly cloy cloudy tomorrow mor increasingclouds. light wind, though, so that's the good news. it will be a cold day. 30 degrees on sunday. 30% chance of snow but that will be well tohe east. 39 on monday and maybe a better chance for monday coming up during the day on tuesday, and as we look toward the extended, at lea we get up to 40 by

mcnabb is a smart guy. he probably knows the writing has been on the wall with this since the first benching. the biggest irritation of fans and critics of the redskns is the lack of respect shown to mcnabb by benching him the rest of the season. mcnabb is a pro. he's mad about the decisi. with the playoffs out of the question, the redskins have seen enough. they want points on the board any way they can. mike shanahan made the decision last weekend that he was starting rex grossman. he told both quarterbacks last night. he went on to tell mcnabb he could not guarantee he would be a part of this team next season. teammates of donovan's want to win, and though they verbally support donovan, they did seem indifferent about the benching. >> right now i have to do what i think is in the best interest of this organization and that's get a good feel of where we're at in the quarterback position. i also told him i could not guarantee him that he would be back next year. >> he wants to see what he has next year. he wants to see if these guys

president obama took yet another shot at washingtonians and their wimpy weather reactions. >> and i'm surprised you guys are in school because a lot of times in washington, people don't go to school wn there's even an inch of snow. >> the president made those comments while reading to a grou of kids at long branch elementary school in arlington. last year the president said the city and schools shut down too quickly when there were snows and they need to be tougher like they are inchicago.
