breaking news in downtown bethesda. an underground fire there has led to power outages and wisconsin avenue has been closed. it's happening right near the metro station in bethesda. tepco reports about 1,000 outages right near the shops and restaurants. no injuries reported at this time. good evening. i'm jim vance. >> and i'm doreen. >> there are some doubts about the pictures taken after bin laden was killed. craig? >> recently we found out that president obama has invited former president george w. bush to travel with him thursday to ground zero. bush declined that invitation saying he was going to return in

september to commemorate the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. meanwhile, as we begin to hear more details about the killing of osama bin laden, we are also hearing more about the stateside secrecy that was essential to pull it off. after eight months of reconnaisance and planning, it took nearly 40 minutes for the s.e.a.l.s and special ops to take out osama bin laden. originally senior white house officials said he was armed and used his wife as a human shield. tuesday a clarification. >> a woman, bin laden's wife, rushed the assaulter and was shot and not killed. osama was then shot and killed. he was not armed. >> the out kocome would have liy been the same. in an interview, he said not taking his life was not an option. >> if he suddenly put up his hands and offered to be

no real thunder or lightning from this. you may see a couple rounds of thunder and lightning, but the big deal tonight is the rain, and that's going to be an even bigger deal as you wake up tomorrow morning. i'll explain. tomorrow we're getting our first look from the ground at a house that exploded in virginia. also, neighbors explain how they pulled out the homeowner. jackie bensen reports from prince county. >> one look at this home in virginia andou wonder how anyone could have survived the gas explosion that caused this monday morning. someone did survive, thanks to caring neighbors. >> 8:05 in the morning, big boom. i was like, what was that? looked to the right and, holy crap. there was a blown-up house. we started screaming, anybody in here, anybody in here? we heard a scream. i'm calling for him. hey, man, i can't see you. you got to keep saying something.

years renovating must now be demolished. jackie bensen, news 4. we turn now to the quest for the stanley cup. the operative word there being "quest." linds lindsey is here to tell us about it. >> this is quite surprising. the players took their foot off the gas. the capitols were finally able to take the lead in the second opportunity, but with a golden opportunity, they came out flat in the third. they have to win tomorrow night or their season is over. the caps not wanting to fall down 0-3 in the second period. tied at two, the caps have the advantage. matt green winds up the slap shot, duane roland stops it but there's a scramble. the caps take a 3-2 lead but they still had to play the third period. moments after the lightning tied it, they have another scoring opportunity.

the man said he feared for his safety. his new girlfriend at the time filed another report against norwood for stalking. investigators say stay away orders are relatively common and do not indicate a tendency toward the kind of violence seen inside the store in bethesda where janie murray was killed. one year ago, the yeardley murder shocked the community and beyond. she was killed in her apartment. for those closest to her, it's still hard to comprehend. >> there's not a day goes by that i don't think of yeardley, but it's the good things i think about her. >> i think it definitely helps you appreciate life more. she lived life to the fullest. i feel like she was always trying to make everything the best it could possibly be, and i think just appreciating that, going on from day to day is really important to remember.

so late in the second period, tied at 2. it was amazing the caps could do this. ovechkin gives it to matt green. there's a scramble. ove comes back and the capitols take a 3-2 lead, so they're in business, but they still have to play the third. they can't play the puck from their zone. they end up with the puck and they hit an amazing goal. it's tied at 3. they have another scoring opportunity. they pass to ryan malone. it's considered a good goal because there was no distinct kicking motion there, and that would be the difference. the capitols fell 4-3 to the lightning. they now trail 3 games to none in the best of 7 series. so game one they weren't getting to lose pucks, game two they struggled on the power play, game 3, they lost the energy

that finally got them tied in that third period. how do you explain this one, dan? >> this is crazy. you probably remember before this series that the head coach for tampa bay said this is like david taking on goliath. after three games, it looks like david resides in tampa bay. after the third straight game, they the found a way to beat the capitols. two goals in 21 seconds by the lightning was the difference. >> they're uncanny when they want to get a goal. it's like they snap their fingers or hit a button. they just dial it up. you can see it's like they're flipping a switch, you know. it's like, when they're down, they know they're going to score or something. i don't know what it is. it leaves you flabbergasted. >> you have to be focused on every shift, and if you're not, bad things happen. it's another learning experience for us, backs against the wall.

a mother down in hampton, virginia is furious that her daughter got a tattoo from another student during a high school art class. the teacher allegedly watched it happen. tainicia says a student used sewing needles and a mechanical pencil to tattoo her arm. she said two other students also got inked. a school spokesperson says it is addressing the incident as a serious health and safety matter. prince charles wrapped up a busy day in washington today. the british royal arrived for a three-day visit. this afternoon he attended a session with british royals.
