tonight with breaking news from springfield, virginia. a young boy is fighting for his life after being hit by a pickup truck tonight. it happened at the parking lot right near a baseball field. we're told the victim is only four years old. he was flown to a fairfax hospital with life threatening injuries. the driver of that vehicle stayed on the scene. police are still investigating how it all happened. now to decision 2012 and a very busy night on the republican side as we learn more about when the presidential field will take shape. nbc news has confirmed that mitt romney will announce his bid for president one week from today. he will do so in ham happen, the second republican primary state. romny is is the former governor of massachusetts, new hampshire is also the state where romny announced the formation of an exploratory committee last month. michele bachmann said tonight that her decision about

a presidential run will be announced in iowa next month. michele bachmann said the announcement will be made in waterloo, the city where she was born. when asked before sarah palin, bachman said she is acting independent of any other candidate, no matter who decides to run. >> sarah palin will come to washington this weekend. she'll take part in the annual rolling thunder event on the national mall on memorial day. palin will make stops in new hampshire and other historical sites according to her political action committee. some believe this tour is is the strongest signal yet that she's considering a run for the white house. john mccain told reporters today he honestly has no idea what palin wants to do. the worst attack of an improvised explosive device this year in began stan killed eight american soldiers today. the taliban is taking credit for it. u.s. troops were on foot patrol

the defense secretary has been given the power to delay the move to the mark center for up to a year. more than 6,000 workers are expected to begin working there part of the base realignment concept. there's concern that the area's roads aren't ready for the additional traffic yet. a lawsuit in federal court could have an impact on drivers on the dulles toll road. two men have sued the metropolitan washington airport authority for charging taxation without representation. the lawsuit claims the authority increased tolls on the road to pay for metro rail to dulles. not for the upkeep on the road itself. since the board is not elected that would violate the constitution, they say. if the court agrees, it could put money for metro's extension in jeopardy. martin o'malley, praised one school's anti-bullying efforts today. he visited urbana middle school

the house he's still paying for but can no longer live in because it's been condemned. >> i think there's between 14 to 18 inches of water in there now. >> reporter: back in august, griffith energy unloaded 300 gallons of oil. that pipe had led to an oil fired furnace that was removed years ago. all that oil went into the basement. the company had the wrong address. >> the pleas of a tenant who was home at the time were ignored. >> she went outside and voiced her concern to the representative who didn't pay her very much attention. >> reporter: he was told not to worry, that the problem would be handled in 90 days, but he says nine months have passed and there's no solution in site. the oil seeped into the two neighbor's homes forcing all three to be condemned. despite excavation under the homes, soil samples indicate

western portions of maryland and virginia. you saw a very stormy day with a lot of thunderstorms, and not just thunderstorms, severe weather, we saw hail, upwards of ping-pong ball sized hail, i saw pictures of it coming out of virginia. one lady e-mailed me said we saw baseball sized hail. that's big hail. take a look out there right now. you can see what's going on. we have some cloudiness, warm and humid conditions across the area, we still have storms going on at this hour, and they continue to make their way up from the south. digital doppler radar showing where those storms are off toward the west. i-81, that's really been the boundary here, a few of them have made their way to the east of 81, it's to the west of 81 where we've seen those strongest storms, a tornado warning in effect, this is hardy county here. this storm making its way close toward hampshire county, and shenandoah county. this storm means business. and it's going to continue to track off to the east over the

next half hour to hour. there's the picture here, this storm on track. watch out, if you're in west virginia it could be a stormy night for you, at least for the next couple hours, there's a lot more in the way of storms, down to the south. and some of these may try to come across 81. that's really where they're going to stay, back to the west of the i-95 corridor, i think washington's going to stay on the dry side tonight. 91 h 2 degrees, the first 90 degree day so far this year. last year we hit it a month earlier, it has been on the cooler side this year. 78 out there right now, definitely not cool right now, as we are seeing winds out of the south at 6 miles per hour, that will help to keep those temperatures up, still at 11:00, 81 down toward leonardtown. 79 in annapolis. 92 today, 89 in hagars town. the hot haair is going to stick

here, so are the thunderstorms. i think the boundary will stay back to our west. the best chance for storms tomorrow, but may be coming closer to the 95 corridor. maybe into louden county, montgomery county and places like manassas tomorrow. area of low pressure, the same one that produced the tornados back to the south and west. it's going to stall over the next couple days, that's going to keep us very warm during the day tomorrow, and on o the humid side. on saturday, as it stalls out we could see rather cloudy conditions and shower activity as well. tomorrow morning, partly cloudy, warm and humid 65 to 70 degrees. tomorrow afternoon, warming back up to between 85 and 90 once again, it's going to be rather humid, some of those storms if they develop could be on the strong side. you're going to want to keep a watchful eye on the sky. saturday and sunday, temperatures still in the 80s, sunday looking like the dry day, monday looking good, a high of 92 on memorial day, and i think

tiffany goodwin really earned the name super mom with that impressive catch she made while holding her baby at a minor league baseball game. tonight the richmond squirrels allowed her to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. she got a golden glove trophy and a jersey with the number 15 to commemorate the day she made the catch. a wife was forced to take over controls from her pilot husband when he lost consciousness. the wife had never flown a plane before. the crew of a nearby commercial flight had to talk her threw it.
