>> three people die in an overnight crash. an suv runes a car off the road and police say a drunk driver is to blame. good sunday everyone. i'm craig melvin. first we have breaking news in northwest washington. a body has been found near a dog park. police say a body was found in an suv. it was discovered around 3:15 this afternoon. it was 11th street northwest,

right near a dog park. police are only saying it is a dog park. they are looking into the sirngss surrounding his death but a body found near the dog park on northwest washington. we will of course pass on more information as soon as we get it. back to our top story now. the early morning crash that happened in prince george county. it happened near wilson bridge drive. police believe alcohol was a factor. derrick ward has that story. >> it is a heavily-traveled artery in prince george's county. before sunday's sun rise, it turned deadly. this mazda 3 was was near wilson bridge drive tp p t was struck by a yukon. both vehicles were moving and the impact was tremendous. >> the yukon struck the mazda from the year causing the mazda to lose control, veering off the road and striking a tree. >> two women in the mazda were thrown from the vehicle.

both died as did the driver of the mazda. the driver is identified as 54-year-old eugene johnson. one of the women was identified also from month nasis. a fourth male survived. the severity of the crash was more evident when the driver of the yukon was taken into custody. >> it appears alcohol was a contributing factor of the accident. >> police say the driver and loan passenger of the suv were under the influence of alcohol. the passenger was released and the investigation continues. derrick ward news 4. >> it looks like braen sprouts caused the deadly e.coli outbreak. the sprouts came from an organic farm in northern germany. they were served at restaurants and a festival the last month. at least 22 deaths are now blames on the e.coli.

german officials are still warning against eating tomatoes, cucumbers and lettuce. they say they need to conduct more tests. the economy took a turn for the worst last month. stocks are down and americans are spending less on everything. as brian moore reports, the new slump as republican con tenors going on the attack. >> this past week, brought some discouraging jobs numbers. only 54,000 jobs added in may. unemployment, up to 9.1%. now the white house is once again confronting fears of a double-dip recession. >> we have added more than 2 million jobs. there's a major difference between a jobless recovery and a very deep hole that we're climbing our way out of. >> as republicans retake their bid to retake the white house the timing couldn't be much better. >> when he took office, the economy was in recession and he

northbound side of 495 near the 395 intersection of alexandria. starting to night at 9:00, traffic will go down to one lane. then from 11 p.m. through 5 a.m. all lanes will be closed. traffic will be detoured to get around the construction. the project is expected to be finished by next sunday. you may be surprised to learn that some of our local police and fire chiefs are making more than some governors in our area. the governors of maryland and virginia make 175,000 and $150,000 year, respectively. compare that to the police chair who brings in $253,000. montgomery's top cop top is a close second at $216,000. meanwhile montgomery's fire chief makes br 109,000 and that's about 3,000 more than d.c.'s fire chief. tonight d.c. police are looking for the motive of a local football recruiter gunned

down right outside mckinly high school in northeast. it may have stemmed from a fight over a woman. darcy spencer is live outside the school with the latest on that. darcy? >> craig, we were able to speak to the victim's mother late this afternoon and she said that he is the father of four children, also an ex marine. you would also find him here at mckinly tech high school here on the football field many a night because he is associated with d.c. falcons. it is a sem fie professional team that plays here at the school but but it was here in the parking lot of the high school friday night about 8:30 where he lost his life. i'm told a girl's flag football team was on the field when the shooting happened. this is video of the victim. he was 36 years old. his name was ralph thomas. he lived in temple hills in prince korj george's county. tom yeah mother says he used to

coach football with thomas's father. those with the men say they played football at some point for the d.c. falcons. >> there's definite lay lot of stories bouncing around. it is hard to speculate where it stems from. some say a female. but whatever it may be, it really wasn't worth taking a life. especially fln this fashion, in the way it happened. he is a young guy. it seems like he was doing a lot of good things with the team. whatever the reason was, it is definitely not worth it. >> we are told the suspect is charged with first degree murder while armed. the falcons are set to take the field once again on tuesday night. i was able to speak to the owner of the falcons. he says the victim was associated with the team as a recruiter for about the last month. he didn't know him that well but certainly when they take the field tuesday night, they will do that with heavy hearts. reporting live from northeast

>> it is no longer a rescue mission for the people looking for bruce hansen tonight. they are going into recovery mode. they believe the 21-year-old probably drown. he was swimming with two others on route 97 when the water got really deep, really fast. rescuers say yanson panicked and another swimmer tried to save him but he could not. there is a warning that swimmers are not allowed in the reservoir where the drowning happened. a re search for his body will continue tomorrow. some kids cannot take a dip in a city pool because of a recall. four kiddy pools at d.c. pools are still closed.

they are effected by a nationwide recall on pool drains. pools at thomas, up shur, shee doer hagans an rumsy are closed. they don know when the drains will come but will be closed until they do. erj pools are still open. the lives of two teenagers, a night that almost did not happen thanks to writing on the wall. and folks, in case you haven't heard, it is going to get pretty hot this week.

a good part of the day that held temperatures in the 70s most of the day. right around 5:00 we shot up into 980s. not too much of a sun burn. here is what we are thinking tonight, easing back into the 70s by 9:00. 71 at 11. then the middle 60s which feel really good this time of year. right now, 82. that's that high temperature with variable winds at 7 miles an hour. a handful of thunderstorms are developing across west virginia. . there is instability in the atmosphere. that is like the gasoline laying around to ignite the thunderstorm. there wasn't much time today to sparm the storm so i think we will have a pretty quiet night. as i mentioned, beautiful start to the week with lots of sunshine. not too hot. we aren't going to see too much rain at all, at least for the first part of the week. we have that midweek sizzle in terms of middle and upper 90s.
