congressman anthony wiener admitted to having inappropriate conversations with six women before and after getting marri d married. he has not broke known laws and heel not resign. >> he calls the axe a regrettable mistake. the controversy started last week when a woman in seattle released a lewd photo sent from wiener's twitter and facebook accounts. the congressman said at the time that his accounts were hewlett-packard, but said he could not say for sure whether the person in the photo was him, and now a conservative blogger says he has new pictures and it appears to have been the release of those pictures that prompted today's admission. >> i haven't told the truth -- and i've done things i deeply regret. i apologize to my wife and our families, as well as to our friends and supporters. i am deeply ashamed of my terrible judgment and action.

i am deeply regretting what i have done and i am not resigning. >> wiener was married just last summer. former president bill clinton officiated the ceremony and the congressman's wife is an aide to secretary of state hillary rodham clinton. back to you guys in studio. >> all right. elaine, thanks. another black eye for the d.c. city countsil and its spending habits. this time it centers around ward 5 council member harry thomas. john schriffen is live outside the wilson building with the latest. >> wendy, serious allegation into the spending habits of harry thomas. the d.c. attorney general's office alleges that harry thomas moved more than $300,000 that was meant for city children into two of his own companies that he runs. one of those companies and a non-profit group called team tom a another for-profit group run by himself and his wife. it's important to note this

investigation dates back to january 2007 and that's when council member thomas took his seat here and that's also when he became the president of the non-profit group and harry thomas telling a very different story this afternoon. he called his own press conference to tell his side. >> i've always maintained that as council member i've done nothing and the council can speak to any of the legal issues i have around this. >> harry thomas, jr., a riefred at the press conference today inside the luxury suv in question. according to this 27-page complaint, the d.c. attorney general's office says council member thomas secretly diverted more than $300,000 in city funds meant for youth baseball programs into companies he controlled. with that taxpayer money the documents allege he spent nearly $60,000 on this audi suv, but that's not all. he allegedly also racked up nearly $15,000 in personal expenses with lavish golf trips to las vegas and pebble beach in california as well as another

$10,000 in political material that went out to his ward 5 constituents. >> we will seek a judgement in the superior court if we do not settle and let me make clear that settlements often in troubled matters are for the actual compensatory damages. >> reporter: with a lawyer by his side, council member thomas would not directly address maybe the purchases detailed in the complaint, but he did say the audi was bought with his own mrony and settlement is not an option. >> to stand here in the media gauntlet and going through this i am not going to settle with something they did not do. i think about my children first and i think about my family legacy first. i think about what made me who i am today and that's what i'm fighting today and that's what i will continue to fight for because i think that's the message they will send to anyone. i have always done what i've supposed to do on behalf those i've served. >> reporter: now in the complaint filed this morning the

d.c. attorney general's office is asking for three times the amount that was allegedly taken inappropriately. that number comes out to $1 million when you include all of the legal feesh, but that might not be the end to councilman's thomas' troubles. he can face criminal action if the u.s. attorney's office gets involved in this case. for now i'm john schriffen, back to you in the studio. >> thank you, john. dramatic events today in the case of a d.c. police officer accused in the deaths of a woman and young daughter. an anguished relative of the victim cried out during court proceedings. pat collins is live in upper marlboro. pat? >> reporter: when wynetta wright's family wants the accused kill tore know exactly how they feel about him and today in court they didn't hold back. drama in the courtroom, a jouj allows the family of a murder

victim to speak out. family to the suspect, you're a monster. you're trash. family to the judge, make sure nothing happens to him in jail so we can get our justice. the murder victim, 20-year-old wynetta wright. the murder suspect 39-year-old richmond phillips, a d.c. vice cop. the murder scene, the oxen run park behind the hillcrest heights community center. now that community center has security cameras all around the outside. according to court documents those cameras recorded the murder suspect cop and the murder victim around a picnic table in the park from 11:00 at night until 6:00 a.m. the next morning. seven hours around that picnic

table until -- until that murder. miss wright found dead in the nearby woods. she'd been shot to death. the two were involved in a paternity and child support dispute. they had a court hearing scheduled later that day. after the murder, police say phillips moved miss wright's car. police found that car and locked inside, the body of her little baby girl jaylin. it appears, they say, the baby died of heat exposure. officer phillips, he's charged with manslaughter in the baby death as well. >> this has been absolutely devastating for our community. it is, as you might understand, extremely devastating as well to the family of the victim. they are just absolutely beside themselves as are all of us. >> reporter: richmond phillips held without bond in this murder case. he has another court hearing july 1st and you can bet miss

wright's family will be at that one, too. jim, back to you. >> all right, a dramatic day indeed at court. pat collins, pat, thank you. a developing story right now from montgomery county. it is a tough commute out there because of the accident involving a cement truck and two cars. this happened on i-270 southbound just north of father hurley boulevard. about 2:30 this afternoon the cement truck driver was trapped and he had to be rescued. he was one of four people taken to the hospital. traffic is still a moos that area. only one southbound lane is getting by. >> oh it was an ugly one, but a beautiful day out there to start our week. don't get too used to t folks. >> yeah. it's going get ugly and actually very typical washington quite soon, doug? >> that's for sure. we saw very warm temperatures out there last week and very hot temperatures with the heat index over 100 degrees last weeks, i think we'll see it again this week. out there right now, it is just gorgeous, 85 degrees, low

0% contained. fairfax county police are trying to get to the bottom of a deadly stabbing this morning that left one person dead and two others seriously injured. it was early this morning at an apartment complex along braddock springs road in centreville. megan mcgrath has the details. >> reporter: this all began to unfold at around 5:30 this morning. neighbors who live in this apartment building heard someone screaming and banging on doors, crying for help and they called 911. when police arrived on the scene they found three people, two women and one man had all been stand. the man and one of the women were taken by ambulance to an area hospital with the same injuries. what happened? police are still trying to piece that together, but they believe that there was some sort of a domestic argument inside one of the amountpartments. >> we do believe at this point that the situation is contained.

all of the people who were injured were the ones who were involved and we're not looking apparently for additional people. so it's not of a neighborhood concern at this point. >> reporter: just who started the violence, though, is unclear. what we can say though, is that all three people involved in this argument were stabbed and one is dead. two are in the hospital with serious injuries. >> megan mcgrath, news 4. >> police did not identify the victim who was killed and no one has been charged in this case. >> four suspects were larged in a series of armed robberies. the sheriff's office began investigating robberies in late february. they tell us the suspects would enter businesses around closing time and rob them. detectives say they brought a break in the case this morning when they followed a suspicious person who was hanging out by a previously-robbed store. they say they noticed the disguises used in past robberies in the car and that led them to three suspects. three men and a woman are now

charged in the case. the former leader of the international monetary fund pleaded not guilty this morning to that sexual assault charge against him. dominique strauss-kahn is accused of assaulting and trying to rape a maid at a manhattan hotel. he's been under house arrest with 24-hour monitoring and armed guards. since his release last month on $6 million bond. if convicted strauss-kahn faces up to 25 years in prison. now to decision 2012 where another republican entered the presidential race today. former pennsylvania senator rick santorum declared his candidacy. he's a social conservative and was a major player during his time on the hill. santorum lost his seat in 2006 after fighting gay marriage and abortion rights. today he blasted president obama on spending and said the president is, in his words, devaluing our moral currency as well. still ahead, former mayoral candidate suleman brown testifies under oath for the first time about allegations

and leonardtown coming in at 83 degrees. ocean city, maryland, current temperature, 77 degrees if you have friends down at the beach today. live digital top larry radar. once again we'll be on the dry side over the next few days as well, but the big factor for us will be the heat. take a look at this, dry, not just here, but all of the way to the great lakes and all of the way to the south as well. high pressure's going to be dominating our region and that area of high pressure will do a couple of things. first, it will keep outside dry side, but two it will bring in warm air tomorrow and here's the heat down to the south. as the high moves over the region, take a look at where the hot air goes. right over our area and we get hot. not just hot. potentially during record numbers especially during wednesday. the record high temperature on thursday is 102 degrees. i don't think we'll be close to that, but i do think we'll be in the upper 90s and it is going to be on the humid side as well. that heat index could be 100 degrees both wednesday and thursday. this evening, mostly clear and

>> nine people were rushed to the hospital after a crash involving two metro busses this afternoon. it happened here along martin luther king avenue and w street in southeast just before 3:00. officials tell us one bus rear ended the other. everyone's expected to be okay. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. just days after a deadly bus crash, virginia state police will be on the road checking the safety of commercial trucks, busses and operators. four people died last week when a bus operated by sky express crashed on i-95 north of richmond. officials say driver fatigue is the cause. starting tomorrow police will be making unannounced safety checks of trucks and busses as part of the annual road check program. the program will go on for three days. official from the european union are meeting in luxembourg

court papers say davidson never stopped and was followed by a bicyclist who got her license plate. police say they found davidson sitting had her car in chevy chase apparently under the influence of alcohol. she's charged with vehicular manslaughter. more forensics experts are testifying at the casey anthony murder trial in orlando. today one expert said there was a strong odor of human decomposition in an air sample taken from anthony's car. last saturday another expert testified that a strand of hair from the trunk fell from the scalp of a corpse. the defense argues that the tests are inconclusive. prosecutors are trying to prove that anthony stowed her young daughter caylee's body in the trunk of her car before dumping the body near her home. nearly two years ago a u.s. airways plane made an emergency landing on the hudson river. everyone remembers that. everyone onboard survived. today that plane is on the move again traveling from new jersey down to north carolina, on the

road this time. the famous miracle on the hudson plane is on the way to the carolinas' aviation museum in charlotte. it's traveling on a massive flatbed truck and is ending up on a lot of back roads to avoid overpasses. a little high. about an hour ago the plane made a stop in perriville, maryland. it will spend the night there and continue on the journey tomorrow morning around 9:00. boy, not a non-stop. some maryland high school students are flying high after their science experiment was chosen for an out of this world experience. >> the project from lackey high in charles county will join others from schools across the country aboard the shuttle atlantis. news 4's elaine reyes joins us now with more. elaine? >> they are beyond excited. >> i'll bet. >> they understand how big of a deal this is. charles county is one of several school systems taking part in the national student flais spsp

flight program. they're traveling to florida to watch their experiment take off. >> reporter: you're look at some of the smartest kids at lackey high school. >> according to the schedule we're supposed to have everything in to nasa by seven days. >> reporter: hand picked to come up with a very specific science experiment. >> we brainstormed a lot of ideas. >> we came up with this one. >> so we're going to start with five seeds and we're going to put them in the oasis material because it helps it germinate faster. we are going to set up two identical experiments and one will stay here at school in the dark and it will germinate with a gravity environment and the other set will go up into space on the space shuttle. >> reporter: that's right. lackey high's vials will go aboard the space shuttle atlantis scheduled for liftoff next month. on the very next flight of nasa's shuttle program. >> it's for future possible space colonization and what will be the best to use to have it be a good crop in a microgravity

loose this weekend and they were picked up by the wind and tossed about. look at this one. children were jumping in the houses on a long island soccer tournament at this one and look at it being spined around and taken off in flight. police say 13 people were taken to the hospitals with minor injuries. there have been several similar incidents reported. they believe they're not properly tethered to the ground. one report estimates 6,000 people were sent to emergency rooms from these moon bounce accidents 2002005 and 2007. introducing the icloud today. the latest offering from apple. apple ceo stephen jobs claimed that the icloud is not a device. it's a new way of managing your digital media. the cloud will allow users to store content and the cloud will push that content to any other device with internet access. jobs says the new offering underscores a major shift taking place in the tech world. >> we're going demote the pc and the mac to just be a device.

bought their tickets for that flight today that they were about to become part of dulles history. >> reporter: from a distance in the air the a-380 doesn't look all that different from other approaching aircraft, but once it reaches the ground you instantly see why it's called a super jumbo jet. with its nearly football field size length and arched wings it features three full decks, two passenger and one cargo, but here was the surprise for the travellers on this inaugural flight from charles de gaulle airport to dulles. >> it was very comfortable. the best one is no noise at all. it is very silent. it is a quiet trip from paris here to washington. it was perfect. >> inside the a-380 flight to and from dulles has four cabin class wes a luxury first class that offers full beds and even changing rooms. all of the fanfare for this maiden flight wowed passengers on both ends of the trip. had hungarian woman boarded in

paris. >> i was very excited to be among the first passengers and it was an adventure, and i really enjoyed it. >> reporter: in the dulles terminal balloons marked the special occasion for the return flight at 4:40 p.m., the crew of two pilots and 22 flight attendants posed for a photo. this arlington newlywed was boarding the a-380 for her honeymoon. >> i do remember seeing something that today was the first day and today i'm hoping for an upgrade. i've never been to paris and i'm excited to fly on a new, big, fancy plane. >> it drew crowd of employees? spectators. it requires two bridges one for each deck, but there was one snafu. the upper jet bridge didn't work properly, so the top deck passenger his to walk down a flight of stairs to unload. >> that all changed by the time the plane boarded for the 4:40

much found out there and from day to night, 112 players are competing for just ten spots in neks next week's u.s. open at congressional, tough to find a player more pate rockec. >> billy hurley from annapolis graduated from the naval academy in 200 4shgs he served for yief ears -- last year he advanced to the finaling stages, today with a shot of entering the u.s. open on the line, billy did just fine. he started the day on the north course where he shot a 2 under par 70 thanks to the pro shot on 9 and that set him up for a nice birdie putt that hirl found a way to drain. he was at 7:00 and worth it to ply one of golf's biggest stages. >> you know, it's a long day. it was an early morning getting up at 4:00 is not fun. i wasn't even going to the ship.

so it was an early morning and a long day, but you know, the weather's nice. a couple of years ago it was really hot which made it harder. and having a good weather day makes it easier. >> it's a lot of fun to be able to play in the greater d.c. area, growing up in virginia noi. it was a huge thrill to play the professional. >> billy hirl shot a 138. still half the field, is in the hunt, even the most well inform head difficulty. gym he knows everything he needs to know, but woodmontt is a challenge for the congressional pro who doesn't get to play all that often. as a director of golf it would be a treat for him to play the u.s. open on his own course. who knows the lay of the land better? but if you can read the body language here you can tell john had a bad day.
