at 11. breaking news tonight in prince george's county, maryland, a massive fire erupted at an apartment complex. as the flames shot through the roof, firefighters were rescuing several people, while others jumped from windows and from balconies. good evening. >> that fire started in the sutton walk apartments about 8:30 this evening. had when firefighters arrived, fire had already consumed one of the buildings. jackie benson is here with stories of people inside and some who ran for help. >> reporter: we've just learned that new carrollton police officers who were on patrol were the first ones to get here. they saw the flames and ran to help some get out, but some were trapped. not only was the fire raging up the balcony side of the apartments, the stairwell was quickly filling up with heat and smoke. one resident chose to jump and broke his leg. >> it was entirely to escape.

there was too much heat and smoke in the stairwell. they retreated to the balconies and made the decision they couldn't wait and jumped. >> reporter: residents ran to help. >> i heard people screaming, and i was looking on the balcony to see if anybody was trying to jump, neighbors went around front to help people come out. >> reporter: a number of elderly and infirm rez departments were affe -- residents were affected. >> my mother was in there. she just heard glass. by the time she came out, fire was coming through the ceiling. >> reporter: two people have been hospitalized. 35 people will not be able to get back into their homes tonight or anytime very soon. back to you. >> jackie, thank you. we're also following some breaking news in rhode island. at this hour, hundreds of firefighters are trying to get control of an eight-alarm fire at a mill. about 15 miles north of

providence, the smoke and flames can be seen all the way in massachusetts. nearby houses and buildings have been evacuated. more than 1,000 people have lost power and at least one firefighter has been taken to the hospital. the web site for the company which hones the mill says it's a leader supply of cosmetic and personal care products. for the second time in the week, the weather will become dangerously hot here in washington. a heat advisory is in place for the entire area attorney. tonight, a lot of people were out playing softball and other sports on the mall. because it might have been their last chance to do it safely for a couple of days. doug, it's going to get warm, huh? it really is. the word dank russ is what we're going to deal with, the dangerous heat once again making our way into the tomorrow and thursday as well. already right now, 79 degrees. that dew point around 67. you're going to walk outside tonight and you're real going to feel a difference in the past few nights. that humidity is really starting to creep up. high temperature today, 90

degrees but really not a lot of humidity to talk about. 89 in richmond, 88 in salisbury, temperatures tomorrow will climb between 5 and 10 degrees above where they were today. that's why we have the heat advisory in effect tomorrow. it begins at noon along the i-95 corrid corridor. the heat index could be between 100 and 105 and may be warmer on thursday. i'll let you how long the warm air lasts, coming up. police hope video released today will help them find a woman who attacked another woman in a brutal purse snatching. it happened may 29th at the second chance saloon in columbia, maryland. the victim was almost immediately hit in the face in the bar. a security guard hired by the private party under way appeared to walk away. the suspect is thought to be about 230 pounds, the victim was treated at the bar and was not hospitalized. it's a business that thrives long after most of us have gone

to bed. women are called to entertain men in the back rooms of restaurants. tonight one is shut down with its owner heading to prison. annan dale, virginia. >> reporter: a homeland security official tells me this is the second arrest like this in this area in the past six months, a man pays a woman 70 bucks for companionship. the woman then gives $20 to her manager. sounds shady, but that's not even the illegal part. inside korean cafes and karaoke bars like these in annan dale, someone would frequently call around 7:00 in the evening, sometimes a male customer, sometimes a manager, oftentimes they were calling tyson wong. he had the women. >> flirting, dancing, talking, keeping someone entertained for an hour at a time. >> reporter: according to court documents, sometimes the women did more. he started a business called

"honey" in october of last year and business was good. won was raking in $3,000 to $4,000 a month. but there was a problem. >> a business where he hires girls and young women who were for the most part here in the united states illegally. >> reporter: won pled guilty to harboring immigrants, he admitted he knew at least six of the women either had tourist visas or travel visas and were working in the country illegally. he used sites like this to advertise. the women lived in his home with them. he put some of the others at this nearby apartment complex. the special agent in charge of homeland security investigations said they actually found out about the whole thing when won himself tipped them off. >> in fact, he was the intent of won to work investigations

well above average as we start off the month of june. and, yes, i think this was the start of heat wave number two. currently 79 degrees, winds out of the southwest-south at 6 miles per hour, dew point at 67 degrees. that dew point has been rising over the past couple of nights. it will rise tomorrow as well. currently 74 in hagerstown, 73 in sterling, virginia. manassas, 70 degrees, fredericksburg at 73. la plate at that at 70. tomorrow we have the heat advisory in effect for the entire region, it's going to continue through the day on thursday most likely. right now in it's in effect noon to 8:00, for the potential of seeing a heetd index from 100 to 105, a similar pattern to what we saw last week with two 0 three days with temperatures above the 95 degrees and heat index 100 to 105. it will be short live, but a couple of things to remember. check on the elderly.

plan for the heat tomorrow now. remember the pets and drink plenty of water if you're out and about in the heat. 90 the high in new york. look to the west, 103 in minneapolis, 96 in st. louis, 98 in memphis. that is the heat that's trying to make its way toward the east and it's going to get here during the day tomorrow as our area of high pressure bringing the heat moves on top of us. very warm during the day today, but as the high slides on down to the south, here comes the hot weather and it stays here during the day thursday. i think thursday could even be a little bit warmer than it's going to feel tomorrow. at least due to the humidity. now, temperatures p tomorrow morning, mostly sunny, a warm start, 67 to 70. you're going to feel it when you step out tomorrow, the humidity that is. tomorrow afternoon, hot and humid, the heat index upwards of 100 degrees, the heat advisory again. the record high tomorrow is 98 degrees. i think we're going to be very close to at least tying that record right here in the washington area. thursday, the record is 102. i do not think we'll get there. 99 is what i'm going for for a

. a foul-smelling odor was introduced as evidence today in the casey anthony murder trial, the first time a smell has ever been entered into evidence. anthony is charged with killing her daughter. a crime scene technician testified about a garbage bag found in the trunk of the woman's car. prosecutors argue that the odor came from a dead body. prosecutors believe anthony put her daughter's body in her car after sufficient ka kating her. police in dallas, texas, are investigating how bikers shut down a highway to do stunts without police officers knowing about it. the stunts were shown after memorial day weekend. the highway was shut down for
