those jurors. >> it took the jury just ten hours over nearly two days. >> verdict as to count one. we the jury find the defendant not guilty, so say we all. >> the jury also found anthony not guilty on lesser charges of aggravated manslaughter and child abuse. she was found guilty of four counts of lying to investigators. as the verdict was read, anthony held back teas. after the reading, she hugged her chief lawyer, jose baez. later she mouthed the words, thank you. >> casey does not murder caylee. it's that simple. and today our system of justice has not dishonored her memory by a false conviction. >> for 33 days, the casey anthony trial gripped much of this country. prosecutors arguing that anthony killed her 2-year-old daughter in 2008 because she did not want to be a mother any more.

they showed pictures of the 22-year-old out partying while her little girl was reportedly missing. they showed the duct tape that claimed to be used on caylee's skull. >> to say there is no evidence to connect casey anthony to caylee's death ignores all of this evidence. >> reporter: from the beginning, anthony's lawyers insisted caylee accidentally drowned and the family tried to cover it up. they claimed casey's father sexually abused her as a child and the trauma from that experience led her to lie about what happened to her daughter. >> casey will be back before the judge thursday. the charge of lying to investigators carries a sentence of four years. she's already done three. the most she could get is a year. >> to give us more perspective on all of this is former defense

attorney reene sandler. you were not surprised is by all of this at all. is this because of the bar for reasonable doubt, the forensics are just not there? >> in this case, the evidence just was lacking. we are talking about a capital murder case, a child, which all of us feel just at our hearts. we need to search for the truth and justice. and so the state in a case like this is held to the absolute most accountability here, and that is the reasonable doubt standard, that is what was missing here in terms of the evidence in this case. >> this went on for a long time. there was a lot of stuff, a rotting smell, a decomposing smell in her car. the duct tape, the fact that she said her daughter did drawn, what did she do with the body. they couldn't knit any of that together even for manslaughter? >> they couldn't. that's where the core issues in

this case were missing. to point to casey's conduct after the child was missing and try to use that to prove something before, and the murder itself just didn't happen here. >> do you think the prosecution overreached? should they have gone for less er charges here? >> where you have a capital murder and the answers to these critical questions are left unanswered, the overcharging certainly comes into question here, as to whether or not it was an overreach by the prosecution. really, you come away from this, at least i do, believing that the process worked. you had 12 people who by all accounts, they dress nice, they were educated, they took it seriously, and they chose not to talk and reveal anything about their deliberations, having respect for the process. >> you think two days was plenty of time to digest the six weeks of fairly scattered testimony? >> yes, i do.

and when it really comes together is for these core questions, how and when and who, and it just wasn't here. >> i have to ask you one more question, and everybody's wondering, will justice ever be served in this case. how aggressively might the state pursue someone else? >> i think at this point as we see in other cases, that end like this, where both sides are disappointed in some regard with the outcome. and certainly there's questions with the public, i think everyone moves on from this, and it's a tragedy across the board. >> we're hearing shades of o.j. simpson on this one from people on the blogs and stuff. >> yes. >> thanks for coming in. good to see you. we have breaking news out of prince williams county, a mother is facing felony charges in the death of her 2-year-old son. karen murphy left her son in the family's minivan for over 7 hours last month causing his death. that wasn't the first time she had forgotten her son in a

vehicle. she left her son unattended in the minivan outside her work at another time for about 20 minutes before someone spotted the child. murphy is expected to turn herself in tomorrow and appear in court. she's charged with felony murder and felony child neglect. big shake-up tonight in prince georges county politics. leslie johns season stepping down from her county council seat. she handed in her resignation letter today. it comes just five days after she pleaded guilty of destroying evidence in a federal corruption probe. chris gord season live in upper marlboro with more on the fallout today. chris? >> the prince georges county council unanimously is calling on leslie to resign effectively, not as of the end of the month.

as the council session began, leslie johnson said just three words, good morning, present. then mrs. johnson left, issuing a statement through her lawyer, saying after careful thought and consideration, i tendered my resignation this morning as a member of the prince georges county council for district six, effective july 31st, 2011, the last day before august recess. i apologize for my mistake. last thursday, leslie johnson pleaded guilty to charges of witness and evidence tampering. she admitted to conspireing with her husband, former prince gornls county executive jack johnson, to flush a $100,000 check down the toilet and hiding almost $80,000 in her bra. we spoke to county executive baker on a way to meet with the council behind closed doors. >> they should give us a chance to put the special election together. >> reporter: a standing room

crowd heard this announcement. >> by the statement of the county council calls for the immediate resignation of leslie johnsen. >> they can't force her immediate resignation. but council took away her staff, county car, county parking, cell phone and grant money. county executive baker then spoke. >> i think the decision the council has made as it relates to councilmember johnson was a correct one. >> reporter: voters in district six responded to the announcement. >> it doesn't surprise you she resigned today? >> i'm not surprised given the gravity of what's going on. >> i agree, she should resign immediately. >> she says she's resigning effective july 31st. >> i don't agree, but later, whenever, i'm glad it's going to happen. >> reporter: a special election

mexican authorities are searching the ocean for two tourists still missing after a fishing boat capsized. survivors tell a harrowing story. >> it was like a dream, it was like a movie. we survived it. the realization came when the ship actually lowered itself into the water, kind of like the titanic movie. i remember the smell of diesel fuel burning my skin. we decided to skin for land it seems to look closer than it was. >> this took place off the baja peninsula. the shore was two miles away. it was a 16 hour swim for those survivors. no more free ambulance rides in prince william county. a new fee took effect at the beginning of the month. the county is billing insurance companies for emergency services but promises residents will not

killing her 2-year-old daughter caylee found not guilty of first degree murder. jurors found anthony guilty on several counts of giving information to police officers. she'll be sentenced thursday and could get up to four years in jail. lesley johnson has resigned her seat on the prince georges county council after she along with her husband pleaded guilty in a federal bribery and extortion case. her resignation will not be effective until the 31st of july. major construction is underway on an aspen hill home after an suv crashed into it overnight. a 22 woman is to blame. she was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. the weather typical of what we expect to find in the month of july. outside right now, it's hot and a little humid. 89 degrees currently under plenty of sunshine.

report a break-in. >> when officers arrived what they discovered was a dead body inside, and an investigation revealed a homicide had occurred. >> emer, who neighbors say is autistic has been charged with the stabbing death of his father. it happened while the suspect's mother and brother were away from their home monday night watching fireworks. those who live in the upscale great falls development are shocked. >> it's a very quiet neighborhood except on the 4th of july with the fireworks. other than that, no, this morning at 6:00, a helicopter was hovering over our home. >> reporter: a domestic worker who didn't want to be identified said the family kept to themselves, many said they would frequently see one of the sons walking the family dog. but never suspected violence would occur in this house. >> i was really surprised. when he told me this morning, i was scared, because we wouldn't thought something like this would happen in this

neighborhood. >> reporter: casey emmer is being held without bond in the fairfax county jail. he had no prior arrests for violence. reporting live in great falls, i'm jane watrell, back to you. >> thank you, jane. there are lawsuits and counter lawsuits in the sex assault case involving former imf chief involving dominick strauss-kahn. manhattan prosecutors may soon drop the charges. but his legal battles are not over. a lawyer for a french writer says he filed a complaint in paris. strauss-kahn tried to rape his client several years ago. his attorneys say they will sue the writer for slander. meanwhile, the hotel maid at the center of the manhattan case, filed a libel lawsuit of her own against the new york post today for suggesting she is a prostitute. it is an unlikely place to be victimized. but police say that not one but three churches in vienna were

targeted all on the same day. >> i feel very taken advantage of, obviously, it lowers your faith in human beings. >> this woman who does not wish to have her identity revealed says her purse was stolen while attending church. it happened sometime sunday morning here inside the church of the holy comforter in vienna, virginia. she placed her purse inside her office out of plain site and then left without locking the door. >> i was with a bunch of children during the service. apparently my purse was stolen, i didn't notice until several hours later when i came back. >> she's now out credit cards, a blackberry and gift cards american the for the community. >> the church reported another stolen purse, just a few blocks away at the vienna presbyterian church. the person at the united church of christ had their wallet stolen as well.

>> it takes a special person to go into a church and steal from parishioners, so this has some very low aspects to the crime. and for an individual to go into a church and prey upon people in that church is very sad. >> the thefts on sunday all the occurred in a similar manner, while the parishioneners attended service, their valuables left in an unlocked room were taken. this woman has now learned a tough lesson. >> lock your stuff away. we all know this, put it in a locked door, lock your office. >> reporter: police are not sure if the thefts at all three churches are connected. at this point because there is not much information known. police are asking for your help in solving these crimes. if you know any information about any of these thefts, you're asked to call the town of vienna police department.

the number is 703-255-6396. >> as john was just saying, police have no suspects in these thefts. >> the traffic nightmare that's expected when the new mark center opens in alexandria in september, may be avoided. the defense department has told local and state officials they will only move 2200 workers to the new complex in the fall. instead of the 6400. the rest of the workers would be moved in by the end of the year. city officials say that's still not enough time to build roads needed to handle the increase in commuters. they are still working to delay the move up to a year. whole foods is preparing to bring its first store to prince georges county. some residents aren't that excited. it's part of a larger development that would bring 36 acres of shops and residents, along with a five acre park. the gourmet grocer is planning to build the store in river dale park along an already congested route 1. that has some people worried

after she posted a fake online ad soliciting sex. she's accused of posting steamy ads about her husband's ex-wife on craigslist. even publishing the woman's home address and cell phone number. she knew something was wrong when she started getting calls, text messages and visits to her home from strangers who wanted sex. >> i feel our safety was compromises as a family. it's been terrifying. >> reporter: police say larson confessed to placing the ad calling it funny. internet crime specialists say it's not funny. activity like this can lead to rape and sexual assault and she's in trouble. britain's royal newlyweds seem to be charming can dark one province at a time. today they're up in the northwest territories. the duke and duchess of cambridge have been greeted by cheering crowds wherever they go.

a usairways passenger is furious after being escorted off a plane for snapping a photo. it happened friday at the philadelphia international airport. the woman claims an employee was rude to passengers in the boarding area so she took a picture of her nametag on her iphone. she was asked to delete the photo. shortly after complying, she was escorted off the plane. not only do travelers want less hassle at the airport, they're willing to pay for it. the u.s. travel association did a survey finding half the people they polled said they'll pay up to $150 a year for a traveler program, including a faster security check at the airport.

>> when you and your brother wouldn't french open in '93 what was the emotion like behind that? do you think back to that moment? >> i'm not saying this just because we're at castle stadium at the wharf. but that french open title represented a family dream and a family sacrifice and a family everything. >> i didn't enjoy the ride as much as i could have or should have. it really kind of friked me out, the attention we got. i just wanted to play, and the reason for me playing the game was to be with my brother. my brother made me feel safe and protected. my brother made me feel better than maybe i thought i was. winning as a coach of the castles is as important as winning the french, 100%, because it was my choice to be here and my choice to -- i live in california, he lives in new york.
