is a limit bit of very thick fog out to the west this morning. you folks west of i-95 be on the lookout for some thick fog this morning. that won't last long. bright sunshine start to finish today. high temperatures in the mid up toer 70s. sun doesn't go down until 6:40 this evening. there's a 3:30 kickoff in blacksburg. be ready for perfect football weather. 75 and sunny. maybe the lack of humidity will help the home team. >> let's hope. >> hoping for a hokey win. >> that was a tough loss last week. >> thanks, chuck. today protesters will gather for the third straight day of the occupy d.c. demonstrations. yesterday protesters marched from freedom plaza to the world bank calling for the end of the wars in afghanistan and iraq. u.s. park police say yesterday's march was peaceful and they didn't make any arrests.

the demonstrations have gotten so large police were shutting down streets so protesters could cross. the protesters have a permit to stay at freedom plaza until sunday. many say they're planning to continue their demonstrations well beyond that. you might want to rethink your travel plans around d.c. this weekend. >> the occupy d.c. demonstration is one of many on instructions. close to the demonstrations the taste of d.c. is back after being gone for almost eight years. it features hundreds of local restaurants as well as beer tents and culinary stage. the festival is set up on pennsylvania avenue between ninth and 14th streets. so expect major delays. taste of d.c. starts at 10:00 a.m. today and goes through monday. >> a big chili eat off with that. the chain bridge is also closed this weekend. canal road won't be affected. drivers won't be able to turn on to the bridge. these closures are expected almost every weekend through december. >> and then there's this, major

changes on i-295. d dot is opening a new flyover ramp that will carry 295 southbound over a new interchange being built for the 11th street bridge project. there will be closures in this area through this afternoon. so traffic can be shifted on to the ramp. >> metro riders should expect major delays during this columbus day weekend. on the green and yellow lines, the shaw, u street and columbia height stations are closed. shuttle buses will operate between mount vernon square and georgia avenue stations. on the orange line buses will replace trains between west falls church and east falls church. those stations will reopen on monday. >> tomorrow is the army 10 miler. metro will be opening early at 6:00 a.m. to accommodate all the crowds. a developing story we're following this morning.

the search for a missing kansas city girl appears to be at an impasse. fbi agents searched a kansas landfill near 10-month-old lisa irvin's home for the second time since the girl was reported missing. lisa's mother says police told her she failed a lie detector test. she claims the child was snatched from her crib in the middle of a night. a fairfax county jury found a woman guilty of murdering her granddaughter. now we're getting a look at the video evidence showing the last moments of the little girl's life and the woman's first interview with police. i lost my mind. that's what caramela told fairfax county detectives during a taped confession the night of october 29th. she admitted to dropping her 2-year-old daughter from a tyson's corner mall walk way. >> what doo you mean by that?

>> i did a terrible thing. >> reporter: video released of the mall security camera show by showing caramela delarose ya walking with his family members. they walked into a food court for dinner. you can see the little girl wearing a pink hat in her grandfather's arm, the toddler's mother, her brother and caramela delarosa are next to thing. then after dinner the unthinkable happens. this time the family leaves. the next few seconds she carried out the plan to drop her daughter from the five-story walkway. news 4 has decided not to show that video. a few hours later delarosa confessed. the detective said she hashed her plan when her son-in-law called her daughter on the phone that line. she hated her son-in-law for getting the couple pregnant before they married. she wanted to get revenge on

james by hurting her granddaughter. >> what were you thinking? >> i was thinking about james. >> so were you picking her up to hold her or were you planning on doing something else? >> i did what i did. >> right. >> but what i'm trying to get at, when you know your granddaughter's walking you bend down and pick her up at that moment you know whaur going to go ahead when you get closer to the rail you're going to throw her over? >> was i conscious that i was going to do that? >> yes. >> okay. >> delarosa admitted in that same interview that she was jealous of all the attention her granddaughter was getting. the judge will finalize her sentence on january 6th. >> prince george county are investigating what they believe to be a murder-suicide.

it happened yesterday in maryland. around 2:30 p.m. police found a male and female both with gunshot wounds. the female was pronounced dead at the scene and the male died a short time later. investigators confirmed the two did have a relationship and are look for a possible motive. virginia will not be getting any help from the federal government to help recover from last month's earthquake. the federal emergency management agency denied the state's request for individual aid. the 5.8 magnitude quake caused an estimated $15 million in damage to homes and other structures like this school. governor bob mcdonell says he plans to appeal. new from overnight, a dramatic emergency landing after a pilot is forced to put his plane down no the ocean. the pilot was flying his twin engine plane from california to hawaii when he road for help saying he was about to run out of fuel. a coast guard crew scrambled to

precaution. now on to decision 2012. where a new poll shows herman cain has surged ahead of mitt romney. a poll shows 38% would vote for cain while only 18% said they'd vote for romney. rick perry and ron paul got 12% each. ever since winning the florida straw poll cain has been gaining support. >> romney has another chance to gain ground on cain today with the value voters straw poll. the former massachusetts governor is expected to speak today along with ron paul. almost all the serious gop contenders are attending this two-day summit which is a gathering of conservative voters around the country. history has shown that courting social conservatives at this event usually bodes well for candidates in the iowa and new hampshire primaries. the trial of dr. conrad murray wrapped up its second week by hearing from murray

himself. the court played audiotapes of michael jackson's doctor just days before the singer's death. >> reporter: as the world was mourning the death of michael jackson, dr. conrad murray was leaving the hospital caught on surveillance cameras. police would question him two days later. in open court prosecutors played the tape for the first time. >> we understand that you had been spending some nights at the house? >> not some nights. i spent every night. murray told investigators the day jackson died the singer was begging for sleep medication. >> i looked at the time because i also knew that if his day is to be made productive he has to get up. and he said just make me sleep. doesn't matter what. he said i can't function if i don't sleep. they'll have to cancel it and i don't want them to cancel it,

but they will have to cancel it. so i agreed at that time. that i would switch over to the propofol. murray maintains he gave jackson a small dose not enough to kill him. and that jackson wanted to inject himself. >> and he asked me why won't you let me push it? i love to push it. it makes me feel great. >> the first time that milk was used on him, was it your idea or was it his idea? >> his. that was nbc's jeff rossen reporting. legal experts say the decision to play the tapes was a calculated move. prosecutors hope they can use murray's words against him and the tapes stick with the jury over the long holiday weekend. television networks appear to be pulling out all the spots

youth football league, the community was in shock. >> we engaged an accountant to do a full audit. we're under the guide ans of our attorney. beyond that i haven't been discussing the issue. >> reporter: taylor is accused of embezzling the money between february and september 2011 while he was president of the upper loudon youth football league. the people who know and trust him are in a lot of pain. youth sports have a special place in the hearts of kids and their parents. >> this is just really good opportunity for young kids to build character, get a lot of exercise. stay healthy. and have fun. and having fun is, you know, key to both their mental and their physical growth. parents told news 4 the saddest thing about this whole incident is it's taken away all the good that the organization is doing. the purple line gets the

green light from the federal government. the light rail line connecting montgomery and prince georges counties is one step closer. maryland governor says the purple line received federal approval to go into the engineering phase. it links metro's red, green and orange lines in maryland. it would connect mark and am track lines. it's expected to cost about $2 billion. negotiations for federal funding are still about three years away. another set back many the search for a maryland woman searching in u bra. a team of cadaver dogs are leaving the island without any clues. the dogs which were flown in from the netherlands spent the week combing the beaches for any sign to have 35-year-old. gardener disappeared on august 2nd. her travel companion says she drowned while the two were snorkling.

he is considered the prime suspect and is behind bars. this morning we're learning more about a woman hit and killed while walking next to the national zoo. the woman died thursday when a car hit her while she crossed connecticut avenue. the driver did stay on the scene. it's not clear if charges will be filed. she was a former president of the alliance francais of washington. a french language and cultural center. >> she was tireless in terms of spending time and money and energy and she also initiated an agreement with the d.c. public schools to have our teachers go into underprivileged neighborhoods and expose kids to foreign culture and open their horizons. >> yesterday would have been her 65th birthday. former prince georges county councilwoman leslie johnson has to wait a little bit longer to

learn her sentence. johnson pleaded guilty four months ago to destroying evidence in a federal corruption probe involving her husband former county executive jack johnson. she was scheduled to be sentenced next week, but her attorney requested a change because of scheduling con fliblgs. the new date is now december 9th. new emails are putting pressure on the white house, it's push to guarantee loan for the a defunct solar panel companies. the emails shows an obama appointee pressing the white house to shine off on the $35 million loan even though his wife's law firm worked for solyndra. another email warned the plan to help restructure the loan could violate the law. the company shut down months after receiving the money. dramatic video out of illinois where people were forced to run from their homes after a freight train derails and burst into flames. this was the scene in a small town about 100 west of chicago

protesters are hurting the working man in new york city and the tourism industry. he declined to say how long he'd let the protests continue. this morning prince harry is wabing up in the u.s. he is in california for military training. the uk ministry of defense released a still picture of him arriving in california. the prince will be here for about two months for what is described as rigorous training. part of the training will take place in california and the rest will be in arizona. harry is reportedly trying to squeeze in a little trip to las vegas during his break. harry is a british army captain who fellow soldiers call captain wales. of course he is going to squeeze in that trip to vegas. he's captain party, don't you know? >> i noticed you perked up a little bit when you read that story? >> a little bit of a crush. i thank the producer for letting me read that story. ahead i why the dmv is getting even more frustrating for a lot of local drivers. also the rare animal that

"the wall street journal" is reporting friends and family of the apple co-founder said their good-byes yesterday. apple said no public memorial is planned. despite being sick for the past few months, it appears jobs worked almost until the end. according to apple sources he had planned four years' worth of new products and updates to the ipad, ipod, iphone and mac book computers. he was working on a spaceship style company headquarters that could hold 12,000 employees. it appears the new iphone 4 s will shatter single day sales records. analysts believe it will sell more than the record 1.7 sold last year. they say demand is higher than ever, but so are the number of carriers. this latest version will be available for the first time on sprint. >> jobs' influence extends beyond the gadgets so many of us have come to rely on.
