hold. >> a local man stopped an intruder and sat on him until the cops showed up. a wall of dust slams texas leaving airplanes on their sides. a designated driver caught on tape. she is nine years old. wait until you see who is in the passenger seat. i'm jim vance. >> and i'm you doreen gentzler. a man was shot and killed while riding a bicycle tonight. it happened in a part of northeast washington that made headlines in january when a man was killed on the way home from theater. shomari stone joivs us live. >> reporter: police have roped off this area. they have been searching in this area over here over the last three hours. investigators told me a man was on his bike and gunned down on

the 1600 block of north capital street. he was pronounced dead at a hospital. police looked for clues. now we don't know if this was a random shooting. the police are looking for a suspect. the people in the neighborhood said they heard at least six shots fired. this area got attention in january of last year when someone shot a man who was in this area by the triangle. police want your help solving that crime but urge anyone with information about this latest shooting to give them a call. live in d.c. i'm shomari stone. back to you. a developing story out of texas right now. look at this video just into the newsroom this evening. this is lubbock getting pounded by a duststorm. it had wind gusts up to 70 miles per hour. it is reducing visibility to zero. several roads have been shut down tonight and officials are

just quickly moved in not just questioning who are you and why are you in my house but you're not leaving. >> reporter: but robert white had other ideas. >> he put his chin down. as he was trying to get out i was trying to stay on top of him. we went through over here into the bedroom in which i finally was able to pin him down. >> reporter: his girlfriend called 911 and white was arrested. police say the suspect may be responsible for a series of day lie burglaries including one that happened here about 30 minutes before police say he broke into this home. he says he is no hero especially when he learned that the would be burglar tried to steal his loaded gun. >> i'm a big dude. maybe i have age on my side. someone was looking out for me

yesterday. >> reporter: police say they support a homeowner's right to defend his home. the suspect is in jail being held without bond. facing burglary, larceny and weapons charges. crews will be back out to clarksburg, maryland searching a wooded area for 11-year-old william mcquain. his mother was found murdered in their home last week. police believe she has been dead and the boy has been missing for more than two weeks. tonight the boy's stepfather has been charged with his mother's murder. he is in jail in charlotte, north carolina. melissa was there when the guy first appeared in court. >> reporter: the hearing lasted just a few minutes but curtis lopez should be in montgomery county.

neither lopez or his defender said anything about the charges. lopez stood in shackles telling the judge he wanted to waive extradition several times he looked back at friends and family in the front row. one of them spoke with us after the hearing. >> he was a friend, you know, and i'm blown away by it. it's not the person i knew. >> reporter: news4 obtained a search warrant for the econ know lodge where he was staying and a honda crv, lopez's girlfriend was behind the wheel of the suv when she crashed here on wednesday. mcquain's suv like this one had her maryland registration and insurance information in the front pocket. there were two cell phones and 18 copies of a marriage certificate. at the hotel there was a knife,

a credit card, nine $100 bills and two soda cans. the earliest lopez could leave charlotte is tuesday afternoon. to prince george's county where a large crowd held a vigil at the exact time and location where a teenager was gunned down a week ago. he was sitting outside this apartment building when someone shot him on last monday. his killer is still out there and there is a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest. there is an alert for parents in fairfax county. administrators are warning of a possible predator. a letter went home to parents today stating two female students were approached on friday afternoon on blake lane. the guy walked away. but this follows a case earlier in the week where a man tried to abduct a 16-year-old girl a

for the second time a trash chute is the scene of a death investigation at high-rise apartment building. the body of emily haus was found on sunday morning at the port charles apartment building in downtown baltimore. she recently graduated from loyola university. detectives say at this time there is no sign of foul play. but people who live in that building say it seems nearly impossible for someone to fall in accidentally. a man in that same building died after going through that trash chute. his death was ruled an accint. watch as a van pulls up to a gas station and parks perfectly and a nine-year-old girl gets out of the driver's seat and the

father gets out of the passenger's seat and tells the clerk why. >> reporter: just before 3:00 a.m. october 8 a red van can be seen pulling into the gas station at telegraphic and west. watch again. you can see the driver sitting up and pressed up against the wheel. when the driver gets out you can see she is just a child. maybe four feet tall. and that is her father. the father makes it clear he is drunking and his daughter is his driver. >> i got a designated driver. nine years ole. nine. dad, drinking. listen we're leaving and she's driving. >> he goes on to brag about how drunk he is and how good a driver his girl is driving him around in the middle of the night. >> she drives us here. i swear to you, nine years old in the truck.

you know it's not every day an animal sheller has to find a home for a pig. but that's what happened when someone dropped off wilbur the pig. after an appearance on news4 it did not take long for wilbur to find a new home and a new name. here's aaron gilchrist. >> reporter: he's the pot bellied porker known as wilbur now called normal. he is now living high on the hog. >> i saw the story and normal and he is handsome and i thought i need that pig. my husband is out of the country right now. what a nice surprise that is. >> reporter: wilbur was up for adoption. his previous owner found him a bit much to handle. but not a problem for ten acres of farmland and a 16-year-old new best friend who he has snuggled up to.

>> he was awesome. he's quiet. for a big male like that he is more gentle than i thought he would be. >> reporter: and eventually he will have a farm full of friends from the animal kingdom too. >> we have goats and llamas and dogs and cats and a turtle. and chickens. i always miss the chickens. >> reporter: they will think that he is a terrific pig in spring. he gets his own house. >> with mud and straw and sand and water. we will try our hand at a cob pig house. >> you might be getting a girlfriend in here what do you think? it doesn't take much to drop the visibility down to zero. our visibility with a partly cloudy sky, 61 degrees. you will need the jacket tomorrow morning. frederick, maryland at 48 degrees. generally 50s in the area but a cool morning coming our way tomorrow. early tomorrow morning we'll start out 52 to 54 degrees. the outlying suburbs in the mid-40s. but that will be one of our cool mornings coming up this week. the radar is quiet. we had sprinkles come our way. but tomorrow morning we will be dry. it's the system down here in the south we have to watch. it brought a lot of rain to central america over the weekend. it moves north and brings a swath of rain right up the east coast. atlanta, d.c., we will be wet for wednesday and thursday it is going to feel like november around here. we'll get 3/4 to an 1 1/2 rain

on wednesday. tomorrow morning a fall start for us. 45 to 52. tomorrow afternoon back in the 70s. tomorrow will be nice too. but then by wednesday it's going to be wet and soggy. i'm not thinking that the morning rush will be that bad. but the afternoon and evening rush will be sloppy and again very chilly almost needing a coat for the end of the week with a high of 59. 58 on friday and even the weekend is looking dry. this is the third in a row. >> don't change your mind. >> don't change your mind. coming ture,

we just can't have a season without drama? >> it gives us something to talk about but i would rather have a guy that can win games. injury issues and the quarterback situation have coaches scrambling at redskins' park this week. they lost 40% of the starting offensive line. cory done with a attorney knee ligament. and chris cooley could be done for the season with a fractured finger. meanwhile no decision from mike shanahan on a starting quarterback. rex grossman's four interception game was the worst since arriving in washington and earned him a spot on the bench. he has 11 turnovers in five games and tied for the lead with nine interceptions.

grossman was replaced by john beck in the fourth quarter. beck was rusty but at least on sunday, beck was the better alternative. what about next sunday against the panthers? >> on wednesday the decision will be made based on who is going to start in the best interest of the organization. i have not made up my behind. i have talked to our coaches. i believe in both these guys. they can both play. i have been around quarterbacks in the national football league a long time. and i know they have what it takes. and whichever direction we go that guy is going to get an opportunity to show us what he can do on game day. >> i am confident in both of them. the offense this year, rex held it down. you can't give up on him after one game. vick threw four picks last week. yes he threw the ball and will
