weather heading our way. >> veronica johnson is in our storm center tracking it. >> certainly looked that way not too long ago. now, with the cloud cover, it looks like it's stabilizing the atmosphere. just getting scattered showers now. there is a possibility of isolated thunder during the overnight period. you can see the gray sky. we are at 65 degrees. all we have going on now, scattered light showers. 65 degrees now. boy oh boy, if you are an early morning riser, you probably got hit with the moderate and heavy rain. here is a look back. the whole band that stretches i-95 yellow there, orange and red is the moderate rain. by 8:30 or 9:30 this morning, the bulk of the rain is gone. we are filled with clouds. it's helping us stay clear of severe weather. by the time the whole system

makes its way eastward, the high pressure may see and hear some thunder and get lightning later tonight around 11:00 p.m. and midnight. by 5:00, breezy conditions, scattered showers for a couple hours. wet weather. wind and definitely chilly for the evening rush. it guess it could always be worse. >> you're right. >> thanks, veronica. the owner of an exotic animal farm in ohio released a dozen animals, then killed himself. it was home to 50 wild animals. officials have been forced to kill dozens of the animals and shut down schools while they track down a lot of the animals. andy has the story. >> reporter: this is one of the big cats we have seen. apparently hit by a car, wounded and put down by authorities. it's been a gruesome round up

overnight and into the day since tuesday night when they discovered mayhem. >> when our officers arrived on the scene, we had one hour to an hour and a half of daylight. there were animals runs loose outside the fenced area. >> it was like noah's arc in ohio. >> reporter: the animals included leopards, tigers, bears, wolves and monkeys. schools are closed and warning signs on the roads. >> there's a bear and a lion out. >> reporter: the sheriff's department says it owner of the farm disabled their cages to make sure they couldn't be used again. then, he committed suicide. >> i honestly believe he didn't feel he needed to live any longer. it's sad. >> reporter: the sheriff said his department received dozens of complaints from the neighbors

about the wild animals over the last seven years. once they were out, there was no way to take them back in alive. >> we are not talking about your normal every day house cat or dog. these are 300 pound tigers we had to put down. >> folks are going to go nuts over this. it's fine. but the sheriff did the right thing. >> reporter: he had the necessary permits to own the animals. there was not a note so we do not know if releasing them was an act of kindness of cruelty. a new search is under way at the home of a missouri couple that says their baby was snatched from her krip more than two weeks ago. the parents of lisa irwin voluntarily allowed investigators search their home in the past. this is the first search involving a warrant.

they have not had a formal interview since four days when the baby was reported missing. the tension shows little sign of cooling. >> it's a waste of time. it's a waste of money. it's a waste of energy. people should be looking for her. >> lisa's parents are staying with a relative. they have not stayed in the home since the baby's disappearance. a courthouse arrest caught the attention of the fbi. five moroccan men used a fire escape to get into the county courthouse. two men found in a recreation vehicle nearby. they were all intoxicated. they were weari ining sombreros waiving a gavel around. they speak little english, but

are cooperating with the help of a translator. a man accused of killing a 12-year-old girl is held without bond. he stabbed his stepdaughter more than 40 times in may. tracee wilkins has more on the investigation. >> reporter: police arrested this 42-year-old, the stepfather of the girl. he's facing charges of first degree murder. >> the parents were going through a difficult divorce. a lot of bad blood with the divorce from what we have been able to find out. the suspect is married to at least one other woman and actually maybe more. >> reporter: we have learned he works for a driver for the montgomery county ride on bus system. she was found stabbed to death on the evening of may 31st. her grandmother discovered the

child's body. >> what troubles me is someone cold and heartless like that could kill an innocent child that had nothing to do with whatever issues he had. >> reporter: the shy, petite girl expressed a fear of her stepfather. the man now under arrest for her murder. >> i think it's important for neighbors to know, it was not a forced entry. they were known by the family. it reduces their fears. >> reporter: the family's home is now empty. kelly lives next door. she never saw the stepfather but is happy there's resolution. >> i'm relieved they are working on the case and there's been developments. hopefully this case will be closed soon. >> reporter: tracee wilkins, news 4. traffic is back up to speed this afternoon on interstate 95 after an emergency paving

project went overschedule. they were trying to patch up the spot. the work was supposed to wrap up before the morning commute. instead, only traffic in the left lane was getting by. it took some drivers up to 50 minutes to make a ten-mile drive. v-dot lifted hov restrictions to help ease the heavy traffic. for the first time since 2009 social security recipients are getting a cost of living adjustment. a 3.6% increase in benefits will go into effect in january. more than 60 million americans will get more benefits. there is another change. starting in january, the maximum earnings will go up from nearly $107,000 to $110,000. nearly 10 million americans will pay higher taxes as a result.

crews are assessing the damage today after a tornado hit southern florida. the severe storm struck plantation and sunrise late last night. fire investigators say strong winds and rain left a trail of debris two miles long, including falling trees, torn roofs and cars. two dozen homes were destroyed. minor injuries reported. school officials canceled classes today because of the possible flooding there. here at home, we are bracing for the potential for maybe not that bad, but severe weather, maybe? >> yeah. as i explained earlier, the cloud cover is keeping us from getting the severe weather today. maybe a few thunderstorms that come very late tonight, around 2 10:00, 11:00 or 12:00 or so. the clouds allowed the atmosphere to stabilize and stay calm. it's like keeping the burner on low instead of cranking it up to

high. >> did i see a sliver of sun? >> you saw a sliver of sun in something else. maybe you saw this. this is rockville, maryland. with the sun at your back, you were able to see the rainbow there as you take a look. this is in rockville. a couple folks say they saw that rainbow. at the end of the rainbow, chilly and windy. it's moving in before long. take a look at the temperature, we are at 64 degrees now. yesterday, we were ten degrees higher. say hello to the 60s now. it looks as though even the extended forecast, we aren't going to see warm days anytime soon. meanwhile, as we look at the temperatures, we are 63 to 66. that's the range and there's not going to be a very wide range tonight as temperatures drop off. they are heading down to the 50s. showers making their way northeastward. to the south, that's the area of low pressure just to the south.

as it moves northward, we are going to get a rumble of thunder or two. out west, the big rains, too. the secondary area of low pressure. much of that rain is going to pass to the northwest. we could see thunder at 11:00. 63 tomorrow morning. 56 to 57 degrees right in town. there's the one low to the northeast taking the rain with it. the other low off to the west. that's what's going to keep tomorrow a mixture of clouds and sun around the area. it's going to be windy for thursday. by the time we get to friday, a little more sun in here. again, still pretty overcast off to the west in some of the high spots. some of the high spots saturday and sunday morning may see a few flakes of snow. breezy, 67 to 63. here's a look at tomorrow mornings weather. partly cloudy, breezy. it will be cool enough where you'll need a jacket. 51 to 56 degrees starting out

12-year-old girl remains behind bars. david hanks stabbed his daughter more than 40 times back in may. police arrested him yesterday in a court hearing this afternoon he was ordered without bond. lindsay lohan's probation was revoked. she missed nine community service days. she was on probation. stocks slipped today on news of more anxiety in the talk to resolve europe's debt crisis. it closed at 11,504. the nasdaq plunged 53 points, a loss of 2%. the s&p 500 was off by 15. the trial of michael jackson's doctor got back under way today after several days off because of a death in the

family. today, the prosecution's final witness took the stand. >> the expert on propofol tried to explain the effect it had on the star's body. >> reporter: attorneys arrived back at the courthouse after a six-daybreak in the trial. the final witness, a propofol expert was back on the stand. the prosecution played a portion of the video outlining the proper way to sedate a patient. >> this is the propofol operating room. >> court was delays because shafer's father died. a much smaller amount of lorazapam in his body. >> michael jackson swallowed eight 2 milligram pills.

in thailand, rescuers are trying to help man's best friend escape from the flooding. a town north of bankok has been impacted. hundreds of cats and dogs were abandoned by their owners. now, they are traveling around catching the pets as they can. those animals will be cared for and vaccinated before being handed over to the country's livestock department. a wisconsin man robbed a bank, then turned himself in because he needed somewhere to stay. he was found in a town an hour south of madison. he told someone he robbed a bank

a father who used his 9-year-old daughter as a designated driver has been ordered to stay away from her. he appeared in a michigan court on charges of child abuse. stephanie gosk has more on the story. >> reporter: in court, he looked tired and emotional, accused of drinking too much and making his 9-year-old daughter driver around town. anyone watching the scene must have done a serious double take.
