today. and they are raising questions as to how the dictator died. melissa malay joins us now. >> there are mixed reports about whether gadhafi's funeral is scheduled for today. the video we are about to show you is fairly graphic, and it's of the fallen leader taken yesterday. here you can see, he is bloody and wobbling, and they found him in a pipe and moved him into a truck where he was shot. they want to know if he was executed or killed in cross fire. the spokesman calls the video very disturbing. john mccain appeared on the "today" show, and he said he has confidence of the leadership transition in libya. >> they have a bunch of militias running around, and as you know there are all kinds of weapons spread all over, they have got to get those secured.

the first homicide of the year in alexandria. a man who was shot over night there. >> reporter: ten months into 2011, police had hoped to close out the year without any homicides at all x then came last night's deadly shooting of an alexandria man, 40 years old, and killed on the street you see behind me. police are talking to witnesses but have not made any arrests. metro riders walk along on their way to the station this morning, word that a deadly shooting happened on the street last night is a bit disturbing. >> you never know what happened. you are never safe anywhere at all. >> i have never had a problem, and never even thought twice about coming down this street, so pretty surprised to hear that. >> alexandria has not had a murder all year, but last

night's shooting changed that statistic. around 10:10 police got a report of shots of fire. when they arrived at the found a man suffering from gunshot wounds. investigators are talking to a number of witnesses, and while no arrests were made police believe there was a connection between the victim and the gunman, and therefore no threat to the community. >> there does not appear to be an immediate concern to the public. >> the police have not released the name of the victim, and they know who he is, and all they will say is he is 40 years old and lives in alexandria. while they do have leads and information from witnesses, they are looking for additional pieces to the puzzle to try and lead them to the person responsible. anybody that saw interaction on the street around 10:00 last night, you are asked to call alexandria police.

new from overnight, a small part of the president obama's jobs bill failed in the senate. the $35 billion bill that democrats split from the president's larger package was struck down in a 50/50 vote. the measure would have given measured to support jobs for teachers and other public offices, and the white house says it would have saved many jobs, and the republicans rejected it because it included a tax on millionaires. and then the long-awaited agreements with south korea and panama were given the go ahead, as south korea's president arrived in washington for a

drill hours before a 4.0 quake shook san francisco bay yesterday afternoon. that area had a second come around in the evening. they are used to it out in the bay area, but still, you got to be prepared. >> it's the biggest one they have had in several years out there, and it was about a 4.0 at the richter scale. we had one back in august, and since then we had autumn arrive. we sent chopper 4 up along skyline drive, where the color is a lot of browns and yellows there along skyline drive based on the types of trees that they have. but still some beautiful color there. it's at peak color there. the autumn oakers and yelliowye that's near maybe hogback mountain, which is up at about 3500 feet. and look at that. isn't that beautiful? great scenes there. if you have a chance, this is

the weekend to get out on skyline drive and enjoy the beautiful autumn foliage. and i have a map for you, in the area in dark orange, west maryland and west virginia, that is at peak color there. that is going to be this way just this weekend, it will likely be past peak in the next few days. and this is a photograph on the ground taken by one of the viewers. this is out in west virginia, and the mountain region there, as well as western maryland, it looks a lot like this. and this is what it looks like right near washington. we are still rather green here, and we do have a few isolated trees beginning to show near peak color. we have clouds cruising over us right now, and at reagan national airport, it's 58 right now at reagan national, and it's dry. we have a westerly breeze around 7 or 8, 10 miles per hour. and it's chilly out in the mountains if you are going to be going out leaf peeping.

ideas. today we're talking about picking a pumpkin and how to pick the right one. >> if you are looking for a pumpkin to carve, you want a large with a large face to it like this. these pumpkins are for carving, they don't have a lot of stuff on the inside of them. >> is there any way to tell if you have a thick rind? >> you want to inspect the pumpkin, and turn it upside down so you can look at the blossom end, and if it's soft anywhere on the pumpkin, it's not a pumpkin you want. you want it to be firm, when you hear that nice thump to it, it's a good pumpkin. >> what about a pumpkin you want to use for a decoration? >> same thing. give a good inspection, and any soft spots they will rot and once they start to rot it will happen quickly. >> what if you bring them inside? >> they need to be in a cooler

right now, nato's governing body will meet today to decide when air strikes will end in libya, after the killing of moammar gadhafi. rebels captured the long-time ruler yesterday. a human rights office now wants an investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death. police in alexandria are investigating the first homicide of the year there. a 40-year-old man was shot along the 1,200 block was shot. they believe the shooting random and there was a connection between the shooter and victim. >> lindsay lohan is doing her community at the l.a. county morgue. she arrived just before 7:00 a.m., pacific time. she was turned away yesterday after showing up 40 minutes late. lohan spokesman says the actress was late because she did not know which entrance to enter. her probation was revoked this

week. she could get as much as a year and a half in jail. today the defense in the case against michael jackson's doctor will get its chance to challenge the last witness for the prosecution. a medical expert testified there was no way michael jackson administered propofol himself the day he died. the doctor said he was too drugged up hours before his death. conrad murray is charged with involuntary manslaughter. and once the prosecution wraps it's case, the defense is expected to call 15 witnesses and finish it's case by next week. jury selection is to begin in the case of a teacher accused of choking students in a cloos room. she testified in her own defense yesterday. she faces second degree assault charges. parents claimed she choked, pinched and scratched students back in january. burke said students responded

we're starting it here right now. there is the view of the sky overlooking boston, virginia, and around arlington, and on the horizon off to the right there is falls church, and we have a few puffy clouds passing through in a blue sky and temperatures are in the mid and upper 50s in prince georges and montgomery counties. further west it's cooler, around the blue bridge, and shenandoah valley, and out of the mountains where there is near peak to all peak color, it's near 50 degrees now. so a chilly day there. and then as a result of the cloud cover, they will not warm up as much as where there is more sun in southern virginia and the eastern shore where we will likely get into the mid-60s, and then tomorrow, partly cloudy near 40 in the morning, and afternoon highs just near 60, and more of the same on sunday. a bit milder on monday and tuesday, but looks like a possibility of rain wednesday

the distance is prince georges county, and just a few clouds passing over now. and the temperatures are near 60 degrees in washington, southeast of washington and near the bay, but further to the west where there is more clouds, it's still in the 50s and we will probably stay in the 50s for the rest of the day, and out in western maryland, many locations are still in the 40s as is much of west virginia. from i-95 east, there's a lot of sunshine, but to the west there is cloudiness, and that cloud cover will be in and out during the afternoon. and then we will be down near 40 by dawn on saturday. a chilly start to the day tomorrow morning, and then another day a lot like today with sun in the morning, clouds in the afternoon and highs reaching just near 60. so a rather chilly day. good weather for all the college and high school games tonight and tomorrow, and that includes
