football players, ankle biters they call it, gathered in a show of support for a boy killed in montgomery county. william's team will hit the field for the first time since he was murdered. the arch rivals got together on another field to pay tribute to their friend. jackie bensen has our report. >> we are rivals on the gridiron but friends. >> reporter: members of the youth football team took a knee and prayed for 11-year-old william mcquain and his mother. 51-year-old jane mcquain was found murdered in their home on october 12th. it sparked a nationwide search for her son who was found on tuesday. the suspect in both murders, william's stepfather is jailed in north carolina. william loved to play football

for the south germantown youth team. but tonight there is no rivalry, just pain. parents have had to answer tough questions this week. >> why does this happen? >> the type of questions were like why did it happen? >> what do you say? >> i don't know. only god can answer that. >> reporter: the tradition of youth football runs strong and deep in montgomery county. this family grieves together. >> the kids and coaches are all a fraternity. it's scary as a child to know that someone you played against was taken away and you know really had no part in it and didn't know it was coming. so i guess we mourn together. >> a lot of people knew william mcquain. but tonight all that matters is the pain of a lot of kids and a lot of parents in this part of montgomery county. jackie bensen, news4.

brace yourself. two big traffic alerts in northern virginia. look at this backup. this is i-95 north at the prince william county parkway. lanes have been shut down to repair concrete that crumbled earlier this week. work would continue until 10:00 tomorrow morning. i-95 is not the only trouble spot tonight. there are lane closures on i- 66 at the beltway. if you are heading west on i-66 you cannot exit on to the beltway. you will have to keep going. this work will continue until monday morning. think metro is an option? warning on the red line. two stations are closed and remain closed all weekend long. also of note the last train on the red line will be 27 minutes earlier than usual tonight,

tomorrow night and sunday. and there is track work over on the blue and green lines. some riders could experience 20-minute delays. there is anger and there is fear in a prince george's county neighborhood tonight after a 10-year-old child was attacked in a wood area. police say a teenaged boy had the girl on the ground in hill crest heights before several people came to her rescue. tonight shomari stone talked to one of them. >> reporter: well, jim, good evening. detectives are telling me that this young man who went into the woods over there to help this girl they are calling him courageous. he says he is haunted by what he heard and saw yesterday. >> i can't get her screams out of my head. i'm sorry. i can't -- >> reporter: a tear gently rolls down jonathan lambert's cheek as

he recalls the horror he witnessed in these woods. a teen sexually assaulted a girl on the other side of this crime scene tape. >> this happened a block from my home. a 10-year-old girl about to be raped. >> reporter: the girl was walk home after school on scottish avenue around 5:00 on thursday. suddenly the teen grabbed her, dragged her into the woods across the street and sexually assaulted her. that's when jonathan heard the girl screaming and ran into the woods to help. >> just the fact that he -- a young african-american male would do this to a 10-year-old girl coming home from her education kills me inside. >> reporter: you can see the crime scene over there. lambert says that the suspect got scared and ran through this brush over here. he tried to chase him but he got

away. >> at that point i got caught in a tree and he came out on scottish avenue and i lost his trail from there. >> reporter: police are on the trail and on alert. >> we will continue to do our job, continue to step up patrol and search the area. >> i hope whatever anybody can do to identify this guy to find him please do it. >> reporter: police urge anyone with information about the sexual assault to call the prince george's county police department. i'm shomari stone, back to you. one of the longest running military conflicts in military history is coming to an end. president obama announced that the last 39 nourks troops in iraq will be home by the end of this year. leaders wanted several thousand troops to stay but they could not agree on the specifics. >> here at home the coming months will be another season of

against susan burke. the former first grade teacher was accused of choking students. this video outraged the community but tonight two metro transit police officers will not face charges for their actions. they were facing federal criminal service rights actions after their arrest of a man in a wheelchair on u street. video was posted on youtube. the justice department released a statement saying there is not enough evidence to pursue charges against them. the republican presidential candidate herman cain is making changes to his 9-9-9 plan, changes that he says will help low-income people. today cain said people at or below the poverty level would be exempt from the flat 9% income tax and businesses in struggling parts of the country will qualify for a series of tax breaks or deductions. >> if you are at or below the

a teenager from maryland has been charged with murder in connection with a hit and run accident that killed a man in d.c. this month. . it happened on october 6th. the man was hit by a car as he was trying to get away from a pit bull. police blue everybody that a 16-year-old deliberately hit the man with the car. he is charged with second degree murder. a health center opened the doors to show off their new facility. the open house was to say thank you to all the donors who made the facility possible. it includes a new exam room, nursing station and artwork supplied by the staff. while people were touring, organizers brought attention to the aids walk in washington next saturday. just a few hours ago, harness racing returned to fort

the current budget crunch is having an impact on local marines. the military has changed its policy toward the amount of money that marines will get toward their education. jo john schriffen talked to three tonight. >> reporter: these marines said they would speak to me if we did

not disclose their identity. >> this could be damaging to my career. >> why are you speaking out? >> something needs to be done. >> reporter: they are upset to a change to a tuition assistance program. >> one of the reasons that i personally joined the marine corps was for education. >> reporter: the department of defense allows enlisted soldiers to spend $3500 a year for their education. but the marine corps cut that down to $875. >> which only allows us to take one class a year. >> reporter: this is different from the montgomery gi bill which entitles an education strip pend after military service. >> they only can go to one class a year. >> blind sided. we did not get a survey or when it was sent out. never got an e-mail or phone

pumpkins from out of state this year. but business owners say there is pleasant request to go around. but they will not be as big as the ones from last year. this is totally cool just check this out. hot wheels tracks. casey and his sons built this thing in their home in richardson texas. it features loops and boosters. it goes through every room of the house and out the front door, down the street for an -- look at this. it took six months to build. it takes the car three minutes to complete the track. the video was put on youtube and helped raise $1,000 for a friend of theirs who has muscular dystrophy. is this not coolest? will the come back in the house now. it took them six months. we don't have three and a half

haguerston 59 degrees. where is the frost and freeze advisory? not in our area. maybe some out in west virginia but not enough to cause a frost advisory but there is one west of richmond, freeze warnings in the roanoke area. taken frost advisories in central georgia. atlanta expected to be 36 to 39 degrees. very cold air on the west side of the mountains. we hit a high temperature of 62 degrees. we will clear out. that means good news by 3:00 or 4:00 a.m. that is when the meteor shower will be at its peak. you will see a good show out there. 53 the current temperature winds out of the west-northwest at 7 miles per hour. and to cool off you need clear skies and light wind withes. right now the clouds are keeping

the temperatures up. 52 in winchester. but look at gaithersburg down to 43 degrees. 46 in frederick. these are the areas that will be in the 30s overnight and into early tomorrow morning. no rain to talk about. no rain on the radar for a few days. looking at a dry forecast. i think starting off tomorrow morning on a good note. will the be chilly, though especially for the best buddies walk? d.c. 36 to 44 degrees tomorrow morning. tomorrow afternoon warming up nicely. i think after 10:00 or 11:00 we should be able to take off the jackets. plenty of sunshine, lighter winds but you will need to dress warm. dress in the layers. cool on sunday but a beautiful day. high of 64. 68 on monday. 72 on tuesday and then things get interesting again. i think we have a couple of dry days saturday through wednesday. thursday and friday we will be
