9:52 am
>> this is one of my team members in the washington, d.c. actually created that one. >> you've got the memory or the stencil. what are the tools you use? >> i have four different tools. i need a pointy knife, a little curved one, it's like a knife we call it, i have a serrated knife typically for the harder work like removing the bottom or the top when you put the candle inside and i have the little one like between -- it's a long actually it's a long knife so it works, as well. >> those tools sem specialized. for someone who has maybe just the standard cutting knives, are those okay? what are the knives that work best at home. >> probably this one. the paring knife would be perfect, as well. >> can we carve a little bit? what's one of the best techniques to get in there? >> first you just need to go slowly. you need to make sure your knife is pretty sharp though. that's one of the keys. and then we go. we need to go all the way down

deep into the flesh. and then we get into it. >> carving the eye out right will. >> absolutely. >> that's the nose. >> the nose is done. >> the nose is done. put it aside. we have some eyebrow here. >> would you recommend letting kids be a part of this process? how involved can they be? >> it depends how old they are really. i have a son and daughter, i don't think they would be ready for that yet. maybe with plastic knives but it's not very easy. >> how would do you think they can be when they start getting involved in the actual cutting? >> i would say maybe 7 years old. probably 7 would be perfect. >> but they can always get a stencil together or get the idea together? that's one way to get the kids involved. >> absolutely. >> i know you have also got a special recipe for the rest of the pumpkin because once you take all the pieces out, you've got the insides, the pits, what do you do with the rest to make sure nothing goes to waste? >> those are not very good to

eat i would say. the best one probably will be one of the products i brought over here. you have the squash, that's my favorite. the green one over here. a curry squash as well, butternut squash that you can find in any store. those would be the ones to take care. usually you roast them and you'll empty them. i usually use leeks to power ray them with cream and butter. >> what are some other things you can do with the pumpkin. pumpkin condition pie, pumpkin brownies. >> our director naomi has the best pumpkin brownies. she says during the season, she uses real pumpkin. during the offseason, canned pumpkin. that's another way you can do it. >> absolutely. here for the teeth, make sure we don't cut out the teeth but cut out the inside. so that's the tricky part and also just wanted to let you know we'll be having a pumpkin patch with boy's town starting at 10:00 this morning.

it's quite interesting. it's something that the ritz-carlton has been doing for the past three years with a produce company who donated about 300 pumpkins. we also have apples. >> how can people get involved? >> show up at boyce town. i'm sure we can find the address somewhere on your website. it's pretty nice. >> is it free and open to the public? >> yes, everyone can come. you have, like i say, apple, apple criider. we are running out of time. we've got a few more cuts to make. just getting the teeth carved out. this doesn't take that much time to do this process. >> not at all. >> is that it. >> we're running out of time. chef, i have to cut you off here. can we show the camera. >> here we go. >> that looks scary. >> almost. so then you cut the top. you empty the seed, you may want to dry them and you can toast them as a snack and then you put
9:56 am
a candle in the bottom. make sure you carve them. >> we have to cut you off. chef, thank you so much. you'll finish this and we'll show it at the end of the show, correct? >> i will. >> that kind of looks like john. let's get to your sports and hakem dermish is here with your sports minute. >> good morning, everyone. your sports minute begins with college football. 15th ranked west virginia on the road at syracuse. second quarter, west virginia down 14-3, gino smith looking for stedman bailey makes the great catch. stays on his feet and cruises into the end zone for a 64-yard touch down. mountaineers within five. dorian graham fields it at the 2 yard line, finds a hole, makes a great move right here and dorian graham returns it 98 yards for the touch down. syracuse upsets west virginia, 49-23. high school football game of the week in virginia, 5-2 chantilly hosting undefeated centreville
