we'll have those stories in just a moment. first, deputies in spotsylvania county are trying to find a man who tried to snatch a little girl. he chased her when she walked home from the school bus. this happened yesterday on polaris court in the northern part of the county. the girl says a man got out of a minivan, chased her for several houses and then walked back to the van and left. deputies interviewed the girl last night and canvassed the neighborhood this morning. we're gathering more details on this story for news4 at 11:00. a montgomery man accused of killing his psychiatrist is now accused of another murder. this time it's his roommate at a mental hospital in jessup. darcy? >> they say vitalyaly davydov b to death dr. wayne fenton. they said his mental illnethat .

the second murder of a patient at the clifton t. perkins psychiatric hospital in jessup in a little more than a year. maryland state police officials say 24-year-old vitaly davydov killed his roommate, david rico-noyola. he murdered his psychiatrist dr. wayne fenton in 2006. he was being treated for schizophrenia. authorities say davydov killed the prominent psychiatrist in a hastily called meeting at his bethesda office. ri rico noi noi ola was found dead in his room. after killing noyola, davydov came out of his rom and asked for assistance. >> we don't know cause or manner of death. the body has been taken to the medical examiner's office for an

autopsy. >> reporter: in september of 2010, susan sachs was found strangled in her room at the medium security wing of the facility. her roommate, taylor, is facing a murder charge in that killing. sachs was found mentally incompetent to stand trial in the murder of her landlord, therapist dr. joyce hadel in chevy chase. she was beaten and stand to death in her home in august of 2004. they said sachs committed the murder following an argument with dr. hadel. that facility was built back in 1959. these are the only two murders in the history of the hospital. aaron, back to you. >> darcy spencer, thank you. the fairfax county fire department is mourning the loss of one of their own tonight. horace pendergrass was found dead inside the station this morning. co-workers found him about 8:30 in the bunk room. officials say there is nothing suspicious about his death, but it remains under investigation

right now. fighter jets take off to intercept two civilian planes in the skies over washington this morning. in the first incident, the plane was out of radio communication. two air force f-16s were scrambled. but once the plane regained communication, it was allowed to continue on. an hour later, a second aircraft was met by a coast guard helicopter and f-16 and escorted out of the restricted area. there are mixed reviews after president obama's announcement that all u.s. troops in iraq will be home by the end of the year. while military families are happy their loved ones are coming home, some presidential candidates are questioning the motivations behind the president's move. brian moore has the story. >> i can say that our troops in iraq will definitely be home for the holidays. >> president obama's decision to pull the last u.s. troops out of iraq is welcome news for military spouses. >> it's great. i think it's wonderful. the troops need to come home and be with tlaur families. >> reporter: a sentiment echoed

by veterans. >> it's about time. we're losing family members that -- for no reason now. >> basically iraq veterans, and veterans from afghanistan, they met every challenge both personally and operationally throughout this entire war. >> reporter: but there are lingering questions, whether the mission really is accomplished. and whether iraq can fend for itself. on the campaign trail, the candidates who want to take president's job are asking one now. >> was the president's administration outnegotiated by the iraqi leaders? >> reporter: they're questioning whether the timing was military or political. >> all too often this administration plays politics instead of making sure that our men and women in uniform were where it's most important. >> i predict we will be very, very much involved in iraq. >> reporter: the mixed emotions here in the states are reflected on the streets of baghdad, where many welcome a future free of u.s. forces. and others worry whether their

country really is ready to stand on its own. brian moore, nbc news. the occupy d.c. protesters took to the streets today. they left mcpherson square and marched to the p street wells fargo bank branch. many went inside and closed their accounts. they say since the bank is too big to fail, they need their money. the marchers then returned to mcpherson square where they've pn camped ut for about three weeks now. afghanistan's president said if there was ever a war between the u.s. and pakistan, his country would side with pakistan. hamid karzai made those remarks during an interview with a private packy tv channel today, after recent tensions between the two countries over cross-border raids. a war between the u.s. and pakistan is unlikely. both countries have recently mended fences over how the u.s. secretly entered pakistan to kill osama bin laden. more than one year after

yeah,ition's one of the true signs of fall here in the d.c. area. howard university homecoming. more than 100,000 alumni and friends are in town this weekend to take part in all the festivities. today's events included the homecoming parade and football game. there have been events for alumni all weekend long. they continue tonight and through most of the day tomorrow. bp is one step closer to drilling again in the gulf of mexico. the bureau of safety and environmental enforcement approved a plan by the oil giant to drill up to four new exploratory wells off the louisiana coastline. it would be the first new drilling activity since the deepwater horizon explosion in april of 2010. 11 people died and millions of barrels of oil spilled into the gulf. the bureau says it approved the

drilling plan after review of bp's new safety procedures. some in congress criticize the move, saying new drilling safety legislation still has not become law. now to december 2012. nevada republicans have decided to move their presidential caucus back to february 4th. nevada planned a january 14th date, but that set off a primary shuffle between new hampshire and iowa. those two states always hold the first presidential primary voting every four years. if nevada moved the date, new hampshire was threatening to hold its primary in december in the middle of the holidays. several gop presidential candidates pressured nevada officials to move the date back to february. do you like wontons? no, do you really like wontons? details on an eating contest that is only for stomachs of steel. how our hometown champion eater fared in her latest competition. chuck is back to tell us if we'll get a little sunshine this weekend.

today young competitors in montgomery county took to the gridiron as they usually do on a saturday morning, but there were heavy hearts on the field. there were fixtures at the peewee league football games. they weren't physically there, but their presence could still be felt. derrick ward reports. >> reporter: you could say it is a community in and of itself, where the peewee league meets.

but this week there are two familiar faces that are not here. the last time the team took the field, there was hope that at least william mcquan would be found alive, but now the sad reality has set in. and there's just the memories and the moments of silence. >> it's tough. he was a good kid. >> reporter: he was a fixture on the field and his mother was a fixture on the sidelines, always asking the coaches to make her son into the most competitive player he could be. and the discovery of her body, a different feel of this game. >> it's about learning football skills and about teamwork. there are also life lessons here. but this week there's a life lesson that many of these parents thought they wouldn't be teaching this early. >> parents find their own ways to relate the realities to their children, a friend, a teammate has been violently taken away. >> you know, you've got to grieve, but you've got to keep

striving forward. >> reporter: and those who are responsible for these kids while they're between the goal posts, they're also finding ways. >> we had a team meeting earlier this week. and we brought coupnselors in fr the team. we told them, let your emotions out. if you've got to cry, cry, if you've got to scream, scream. as coaches and mentors, we're there for them. >> reporter: even among the opposition, there's empathy. >> we're all in this football. even though we're competitors, we're also like a big family. >> reporter: derrick ward, news4. >> the private funeral for jane and william is next saturday at the cedarbrook community church in clarksburg. the best buddies challenge here in d.c., more than 1,400 participants took part in bike rides and runs that took place on the national mall. the money is used to create

little sunshine before they moved in this morning. but boy, the clouds came early, and stayed late. the good news is, the clouds are pulling out. bad news is, just in time for the sun to set. clearing skies overnight will promise a very chilly start on your sunday morning. outside right now, as the sun is just about ready to slip down below the western sky, plenty of clouds from washington to points east now, clearing skies up toward frederick county, maryland, and clearing skies out to the blue ridge as well. current temperature 57 degrees at national airport. still under a mostly cloudy sky. a light breeze out of the north at 6 miles per hour. had we gotten the sunshine, we would have inched our way up to about 61 or 62, which was my forecast for the day. fell just a little bit short thanks to the bonus cloud cover today. temperatures now mid-50s. pretty much everywhere. but with the clearing sky, overnight tonight, frost is a real possibility. frost advisories are posted in the highlighted counties out south of winchester. could even see scattered frost

in the western parts of the metro. we'll keep you posted on that. expect a chilly evening. temperatures mid-50s for the next hour or two. back in the mid and upper 40s by 11:00 p.m. there's a little wedge of cloud cover on top of us. just as the sun's going down, the last of those clouds are moving out towards the eastern shore and clearing skies back to the west will make for a chilly stretch through the overnight hours tonight. some patchy frost first thing tomorrow morning. but tomorrow, more sunshine. as a result, milder. tomorrow night, with clouds in place, once again, not quite as chilly. so don't forget to get outside and enjoy some of the high foliage color. out towards the blue ridge, shenandoah valley, west virginia, at or near peak conditions. today, tomorrow and on into early next week. for this evening, generally cloudy skies and cool. temperatures back into the mid-40s. by 11:00 p.m. mid-30s in some of the western

and northern suburbs to mid-40s in town and by the bay. tomorrow, more sunshine. great day to get outside and enjoy the fall color. mid-60s tomorrow. upper 60s on monday with a few extra clouds back in. i think we can squeak out a 70 or two this week. that shows up on tuesday and wednesday before the bottom falls out. looks like the next system could be a lot of rain for thursday, friday and saturday. that may linger into sunday, next sunday is the marine corps marathon. we'll work on that. >> thank you, jeff.
