good evening, everyone, i'm aaron gilchrist, we begin tonight with breaking news out of northwest d.c. police are on the scene of a shooting at w street and georgia avenue. we're told the man has been shot in that area. police are looking for three males in dark clothing. they do consider them dangerous right now. this is all happening close to

the howard university hospital. there's not been any detail about a possible connection between any events going on there, and this shooting. we're told that victim has died as a result of the shooting on georgia avenue. a lot of police actively in the area right now. you should avoid this area as the investigation goes on near the howard university hospital. now to a frightening encounter, a man tries to snatch a 9-year-old girl as she gets off the school bus. the man started chasing the girl on polaris court. she got away, he did too. authorities are trying to find him. news 4's darcy spencer reports. >> reporter: although the victim is just nine years old, she was able to provide a very detailed description. not only of her would-be attacker, but also of the minivan he was driving. it happened here around 4:00

friday afternoon. the victim says she had gotten off o the bus with other children when they went inside, a young man got out of his minivan and started to chase her. >> she had the distinct feeling he was coming after her? >> she states with certainty that the individual was coming directly at her. >> reporter: the would-be ap ducter chased her past a couple houses, as she approached her home, he quickly walk eed back his van and drove away. >> we're treating this as an attempted abduction. >> reporter: the man appeared to be high school age, white with a medium build and blonde curley hair. he was wearing a sky blue shirt with flames. a jacket with orange and green panels. he was driving a silver or gray grand caravan style minivan with a dent in the passenger side

door. two other children told police they saw the van too. >> with the recent development of the description of the van being corroborated by two other people during the neighborhood canvas, we felt for certain this did occur and the van was there. >> the sheriff's office plans to have additional stops in the area starting monday morning. >> police are checking surveillance video, including some from a nearby 7-eleven store. a shooting at the d.c./maryland line this morning just before 4:00 a.m. police arrived to find a man in his cab, he had been shot, he was pronounced dead a short time later. police are still looking for a suspect and a motive tonight. also tonight we're learning more about a maryland mental patient who is charged with murder again. it happened last night at the clifton t. perkins psychiatric

hospital in jessup. he beat his 22-year-old roommate to death in the maximum security section of the facility. he was in jail for killing his psychiatrist in 2006. two years ago, he petitioned for release saying his mental illness had been cured. three days after he was killed by libyan rebels, moammar gadhafi is expected to be buried tomorrow. his body right now is in a commercial freezer in misrata that's been open to the public for viewing. international rights groups have been calling for an investigation into how gadhafi died. rebel forces also claim they have captured one of gadhafi's sons today. meanwhile, libya will mark liberation day tomorrow as the country ends the 42-year rule of the gadhafi regime. praise and criticism for

heavy hearts today at a peewee football game in montgomery county. the panthers took to the field without two fixtures, 11-year-old william mckwquain a his mother. william's father has been charged with their murders. he was a great player and his mother was an avid supporter. a private funeral is set for next saturday at the cedar brook community church in clarksburg. a bout of pneumonia has left loretta lynn in the hospital. the 76-year-old singer had to cancel a performance tonight in kentucky after becoming ill. she shot to fame in the 60s and 70s and earned a reputation as a feminist for her controversial lyrics. just last weekend she performed here in d.c. condoleezza rice was close to resigning from the bush white house, according to her new memoir.
