now with where the g-20 summit is under way. leaders are working to stabilize the economy on that continent. despite the greek prime minister reversing his position to hold a referendum on an unpopular bail out plan. chuck todd has the report. >> reporter: day one of this g-20 summit for president obama, believe it or not, it's his fifth g-20 since taking office. all of them have the united states playing a central role. this one, the united states and president obama is more on the sidelines. why? because of the developing situation in greece. the president is playing the role of cheerleader on one hand, therapist on the other, trying to stiffen the spines of the richer european nations to stick with the plan of creating their version of t.a.r.p. they call it a firewall. it's a trillion dollar fund to stabilize them.

learn more details about this gruesome double killing. in court, prosecutor john maloney described it as a ghastly, violent attack on two innocent people. >> a possible motive, jane mcquain's honda crv. they say lopez promised his girlfriend in north carolina a new car. before the murder, before the murder, he sent pictures of miss mcquain's honda to his girlfriend in north carolina. >> we now know from witness interviews that the defendant was texting paragraphs of the vehicle in advance of mrs. mcquain going missing. we know that after her death, he texted photographs of the car to his girlfriend saying here is your car.

we're on our way. >> reporter: curtis lopez charged in the murder of 51-year-old jane mcquain. she was found dead in the bedroom of her germantown condo. her skull crushed with a 30 pound weight. she had been stabbed in the back. it's believed that happened sometime on the night of september 30th. on that night, the prosecutor says her 11-year-old son, william, was at a sleepover at a friend's house. on the morning of october 1, the prosecutor says lopez picked up william at the friend's house and took him to jane mcquain's storage locker in germantown. security video shows both of them there. it also shows lopez taking a baseball bat from the locker and putting it into jane mcquain's suv. the prosecutor says lopez used that bat to kill william in these woods in clarksburg. curtis lopez held without bond

today, pending further court action in the case. back to you. >> pat collins reporting. thank you, pat. police arrested two more people in connection with the murder of a howard university student. the 21-year-old and 18-year-old are now behind bars and charged with first degree murder in the death of a howard university freb freshman. he died after being shot last tuesday. the motive appears to have been robbery. there's a public memorial service under way. kameny was a gay rights activist who died last month. tom sherwood is at mt. ver nonsquare as people pay their respec respects. >> reporter: the mayor is due here at the carnegie library to honor frank kameny. he was brought to the carnegie

in california now, the defense is presenting closing arguments in the trial of michael jackson's doctors. this is after the prosecution called dr. conrad murray a reckless physician who left three children without a father. stephanie stanton with courtroom developments in los angeles. >> michael jackson trusted conrad murray. >> reporter: closing arguments in the conrad murray trial. >> conrad murray abandoned michael jackson. >> reporter: the prosecution laying out the case for the last time for the jury. >> every single doctor that testified in this courtroom told you they would never do what conrad murray did.

the jury will consider one count of involuntary manslaughter. they do not have to decide whether conrad murray meant to kill michael jackson, only there's enough evidence to consider him criminally negligent. the supreme court agreed to hear a case over land. they want approval to use a chunk of the land. the easement blocks access to their club. a circuit court ruled in their favor. the city filed an appeal. it's before the supreme court and could take months for a decision to come down. outdoor dining, i don't know if it was that nice today, but it was nice out there. >> for lunch, it probably was. dinner, it may be on the cold side. >> with a fur coat on maybe. >> with a fur coat. this weekend is going to be chilly, especially on saturday morning.

this. a pretty potent storm. this is the same one that brought denver, colorado eight inches of snow. a foot close to denver. this is bringing rain into western portions of virginia and western portions of west virginia and kentucky. it's moving our way. the storm system itself is actually starting the last couple frames to move to the south. that's good news for us. we are going to stay on the drier side of the storm. we have dry weather today with the sunshine. the high moves out. here comes an area of low pressure. watch how it dives south. we'll see showers tomorrow, but they are in the southern viewing area. charlottesville and to the east in southern maryland. you can see shower activity through the noon hour. by 3:00, notice the clearing. mostly cloudy skies during the day. clearing late in the day. not just clearing.

newly released video that shows the moment a barge collided with a tour boat up in philadelphia. two people were killed. the crash occurred back in july of last year. the video was shown during the sentencing hearing for the man piloting the barge. he admitted he was distracted by his cell phone. he was on the phone with his son who was having a medical emergency. he said that happened just before the crash. he pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. he's been sentenced to a year and a day in prison. no charges are being filed in the case of an autistic child found alive after being lost six

days in virginia. the 8-year-old went missing while on an outing in hanover. six days later, they found him in good shape. they said there is nothing about the case that warrants the filing of any charges. a woman from texas who posted a video of her father beating her is speaking out about why she did that. we want to warn you, the video is tough to watch. her name is hillary adams. she and her mother were on the "today" show. she posted the video showing her father, a judge beating her back when she was 16 years old. her mother also participated in the beating. hillary says her father dared her to post the video. this morning, she explained why she waited seven years. >> i waited seven years because

second home. they exchanged hugs with the employees here. all of them trying to put the tears behind them. in bethesda, chris gordon, news 4. >> her family will go back to their home near texas, houston, texas tomorrow. they will be back in january for the sentencing of britney norwood. investigators are trying to figure out what sparked a deadly house fire. a woman was killed and three others injured. the fire broke out early this morning in aspen hill. neighbors who saw the flames came outside and tried to help. they say it was a chaotic situation until firefighters got there. >> i ran outside and saw the fire was there. i grabbed a small hose along with another neighbor and we started spraying the front of the house because it's where the fire was at. investigators say there were no working smoke detectors in the home. they identified the woman who died as a 67-year-old.

police are looking for a gunman. a guy who opened fire in the middle of rush hour. it happened yesterday in the 1200 block of north capital street. it left one man wounded and two vehicles in need of body work. derrick ward talked to a witness who narrowly escaped being shot. >> reporter: anyone who navig e navigated the intersection of new york after and north capital knows it's a challenge. yesterday's evening rush hour redefined the term nightmare commute. a gunman opened fire on new york avenue. the target was another man also on foot. >> we have one person who was shot in the back in the 1200 block of north capital street, transported to a hospital. >> reporter: the victim was trying to find cover and taken to a hospital in a private car. as the bullets flew and

hello, i'm meteorologist doug kammerer. here on storm center 4 watching where the next storm is coming from the west. nothing to worry about. a very nice evening, 59 degrees with winds out of the south-southeast. the doppler radar is clear. you will need the umbrella around warrenton, waldorf, cambridge and charlottesville tomorrow. make sure you have the umbrellas when you step out. a potent storm system making its way to the east. the last couple hours, it's made a beeline to the southeast. it will take the moisture associated to the southeast. tonight and tomorrow, shower activity early in the day from i-66 to the south and in toward virginia and from route 50 to the south and into maryland.

fbi says it's arrested a man for making harmful threats against the family of eric cantor. glendon swift of tennessee was arrested yesterday. an unknown person left two voice mail messages a week ago. the caller said he was going to destroy cantor, rape his daughter and kill his wife. he was also screaming and cursing during the call. the congressional staff member heard the messages and alerted police. he was identified as swift who
