>> i'm tired of reporting this. you do the honor of it. >> lindsay lohan, as you know, is going to jail. they say she violated her probation. she is going for 30 days. we heard conflicting reports. tmz says that the judge actually told her she could report a little later so she could finish her "playboy" shoot. >> good grief. apparently they didn't turn out good enough so they are redoing it. >> it's a 30-day sentence, but some people say she'll serve one day because of overcrowding. >> this is not the first time that's happened either. here is my suggestion. take somebody that's been there a long time in jail, take them out and put her back in. take somebody out and let them out instead who's done some time and leave her in there to do some time so she finally has enough time to sit there alone without anything in her body, you know? and contemplate what life has become for her.

obviously this topic was coming up. they were in australia to promote a handbag line. what is troubling people is there is always an innate conflict. kim's mom came on to talk about her book but we talked about kim. they are talking about their hand bag line. it just seems to people unseemly to be promoting something while you're going through something. >> it was awkward for me yesterday, as you know. we've been friends for a long, long time. i knew this family long before there was any reality show. your friends are your friends. for me, they're your friends forever. you go through a lot of things with one another. i certainly have not appreciated -- agreed with a lot of things they've done, but i still love my friends. i have to ask the tough questions. i think the toughest one is people, there wouldn't be the backlash if somebody had sensed they tried or they're trying or they are going to see a counselor, but it's over? i had marital problems.

most people had marital problems. i think what people disrespect, they shouldn't be surprised by this, except they haven't even tried. i think that's the hardest. >> you know what's funny about this show? not only does it have young people watching -- >> you know what surprised me, my mom likes this show. mom, you of all people because their antics at times, i can't watch it. my mother says, she says you know what? i know some of the things they do, i don't particularly appreciate. but at the end of the day, they're a family and they love one another and i love to see a family together. i think that's a lot of the appeal. >> they're good sisters. that is one thing you have to give them. they are there for each other. they are always there. there is an event, they're supporting. if there is anything, they're like the mafia, they're in group. >> frank tried to call yesterday and got bruce on the phone. people wonder how bruce handles

we just did the recarpet. they'll see it at another time. >> amy, this movie obviously kathie lee cried so it's not just for kids. >> i cried a lot this week. i was moved by it. when you read the script you don't say yes or do you say yes? >> we didn't really read a script, exactly. i saw my stuff a bit at a time. with an animated film, they are sort of making it for a long period of time and a little bit at a time. they show you a picture of your character and you see the dialogue. they tell you the story. >> you were cinderella in one of them, one of the earlier "shrek's" is it fun going to the audio booth? >> i like doing voiceovers. it's fun. in the older days they would do animated voices which i love. i wish they would go back to that. you know, character voices. now they want you to sound like yourself.

overcome some tremendous obstacles in his life. >> let's listen to the letter he sent us. >> february 4, 1987, i was working a real job as my dad called it hanging above-ground water storage tanks. an electric line with 7,600 volts arced over to the scaffolding and burned both my hands and 28% of my body. i spent the next four months in the north carolina burn center. having started playing the piano at age 3, at age 30 i was leaving with both hands amputated and hooks in their place. a couple of years later a friend called and said they were doing a musical production saying they amputated my hands, not my voice. there in the pit i met the love of my life. we dated two years, fell in love, got married. two years later had a baby together. when the baby was 2, my 34-year-old wife was diagnosed with terminal breast cancer. she fought a long and arduous battle but lost the war in 2001 when the baby was 10. these past ten years have probably been the best as i've been mom and dad to a motherless

daughter who at age 20 is a senior at miami state university. i've become the first double-hand amputee to be trained and certified as a private pilot in the u.s. and the only one to be trained as acting and now as a performer with disabilities had a few roles in tv shows and films. early someone gave me a mug that said, "life is not a dress rehearsal." those six words carry a powerful meaning. we only get to do this once. no matter what or where our stage, this is our one and only performance. >> john is here with his beautiful daughter whitney. toct >> i had no idea you were so funny. >> when kath talked about the t-shirt you wore that said, "i'm not really good at pattycake." >> "i suck at pattycake." >> how much has humor helped you through this? >> i feel humor makes everything

a good even playing field no matter what your politics or religion. i used humor a lot. i use it a lot in stand-up, also. >> and in your acting. you just shot a tv thing where you play -- >> i play a dmv examiner on mtv show "awkward." she went to go get her driver's license and i stick my hooks all around in front of her face. she freaks out and doesn't get her driver's license. >> they do have a lot of prosthetics now. why do you choose to keep the hooks? >> these were invented in the 1940s after world war ii. it's basically the keep it simple, stupid. it's the easiest, the most light weight. i scuba dive. a lot of electronics aren't waterproof. they work good under water. >> some write read said your mom and friends had much, much more difficult time with all of this than you did. >> it is. i go back to the burn center in chapel hill. i visit a lot of hospitals in cincinnati and work with new

amputees. i end up talking more to the families than i do to the amputee themselves. they have a harder time. it's hard, even today if people see me coming they want to hold a door open for me. as if i can't open a door. >> maybe they are not sure what you are capable. >> that is a lot of it. >> they don't know you like we do. they're getting to know you. >> a lot of that is true. been a single parent the last ten years. that's been a big part. i changed diapers. i've zone it aural all. >> whitney, you've only known your dad this way. has it been difficult to deal with friends and people and just young girl things? >> i think it was really easy because we were open in the family about it. he was always in the school with my classes, working with my teachers, working with the students. it was never really awkward to have him there. they loved it. he was my girl scout leader. he did all of those things. >> of course he was. >> we went camping. we did everything.

we have a look at your weather today. and for the next seven days as we walk you through a week here. the middle of the country, very quiet for the friday forecast. although temperatures cold in the morning, will warm up nicely in the afternoon. mid-atlantic looking at rain and a lot of wind, but will be dry through the northeast and a few widely scattered showers into parts of florida. nothing significant. as far as temperatures go, we're only at 52 there in new york city, 50 in boston today. the coldest air across the country moving out of the northwest and this will impact the west coast. mountain snow, rain at lower elevations, even the higher elevations picking up on snow on saturday. montana, more snow showers as well, and into the pacific northwest. notice how dry lit be through the eastern half of the country. some wind in the plains in advance of the storm, which will eventually track its way to the east. your saturday forecast for college football games across
