to the east of the beltway. all the eastbound lanes are closed. traffic is a mess there. fire officials say the two that died were in a car that caught fire. both were in car seats at the time. adults could not get them out in time. two others have been taken to a hospital. this is creating as noted a traffic nightmare in prince george's county. backups stretch for miles on both sides of route 50. the traffic delays have bled on to the beltway as well. we'll have more on the breaking news as we learn more throughout the broadcast. breaking news in downtown d.c. where occupy protesters surrounded the convention center. shomari stone is live over there. >> reporter: we're here at new york avenue and 6th street. the intersection has reopened. police reopened it ten minutes

ago. many of the intersections around the convention center were closed while the occupy wall street protesters tried to invade the washington convention center. they banged on the walls and sat down at entrances and screamed we are the 99%. police said that there have been no arrests. some got in the building and police escorted them out. americans for prosperity is having a summit to defend the american dream and tonight was a tribute to president ronald reagan. the protesters tried to disrupt what was going on tonight and trying to disrupt what's going on this weekend. one told me the goal is to draw attention to corporate greed on wall street. >> to gain attention to the issue to get news coverage just like this.

>> i saw a lot of the occupy protesters were talking bad about the cops and screaming at them. they were acting a bit disrespectful. is that helping? >> absolutely not. >> our boys are overseas fighting for them to have the freedom to do it. do they appreciate it? >> that woman you just saw was in the convention center at the tribute to ronald reagan. when many were walk out that's when some of the occupy wall street protesters were taking their bodies like this to block them from leaving. police asked them to move and the occupy wall street protesters let the people walk across the street. many of those folks were upset. there was one reported injury that we saw in which a car hit one of the pedestrian who was walking across the street. besides that there have not been other injuries or arrests out here and many of the folks out

here told me they will continue to protest. right now they have gone back to the mcphearson area. live in d.c. i'm shomari stone. back to you. >> thank you. there's new information. a police source tells us the car that smashed into several vehicles last night was involved in a police chase. the sound of that crash woke up neighbors in the neighborhood. this is the damage they saw. the driver of the car ran away before the cops arrived. his passenger was arrested. no one was seriously hurt. police are calling it the lowest form of crime. they are looking for four suspects who stole a cash box from a girl scout selling cookies. the suspects worked as a team to steal the box 200 bucks in it. the girls cannot understand why anybody would stoop that low. >> we worked really hard because

we fielded most of that money for service projects we do. we help homeless people and raise food for sarah's house and we worked really hard. >> police are asking anyone who might be able to identify the suspects in these pictures to call them. anybody looking to help the girl scouts can drop off a check at the buoy police department tomorrow from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m. it has been a week since a boy from virginia was found alive after spending five nights in the wild. tonight his grandmother updates us about his condition and tells us about the moment she found he was alive. >> i wanted to let you know how much we care. >> reporter: norma reads a message of hope sent by a stranger after her grandson went missing. >> if there is anything i can do and help you please let me know.

>> reporter: robert wood jr. was found alive one week ago after the child with autism spent six days lost in the park. williams said after the fifth night she was convinced she would never see the nine-year-old again. >> i was sitting in the truck with the wind blowing and the rain coming down and i said god he won't last much longer. >> reporter: thousands searched for the boy who was rushed to a richmond hospital. he has been recovering from cuts, insect bites and more serious problems. >> his esophagus had a small hole. it's probably something he ate. that's what we were told the first day. his foot hasn't -- is still swollen. >> reporter: she got to see her grandson after he was discovered in a quarry. she thinks his quiet temperament was the key to his survival. >> according to the man who was done there that's what kept him

is running neck and neck with mitt romney. cain continues to deny the allegations. there is also a new poll that shows mitt romney ahead of president obama. the routers poll asked who they would vote for if the election was held today. it shows romney winning by a slim margin, 44 to 43%. mr. obama led romney by six points in a poll taken in september. tonight there is news that gabrielle giffords will go back to congress. congresswoman giffords revealed the plans in her upcoming barack obama bo-- book. she says that the toughest part was learning of the six people killed in that attack. she described her physical recovery in the book. she lost half the sight in both

minutes later, with police watching his accomplice sells that stolen tide to a nail salon a couple miles away. busted, seized from that nail salon, 18 jugs of tide. 27 packages of gillette fusion razors. 11 bottles of body wash and two apple computers. it was a bad week for boosters. this prince george's police special crimes squad raided a store in silver spring. busted seriesed from the universal market, 129 jugs of stolen tide and 72 cans of baby formula. >> you have one, that's $22.99. $23. he paid 5 bucks for this and selling it for $25. that's a 500% profit off them. liquid gold. >> reporter: police have arrested eight suspects and

looking for 15 more. but the investigation is just getting started. they're likely to be a lot more callers before they wipe out this ring. i'm pat collins, news4 prince george's county. police in west virginia busted a burglary suspect after he walked into a store on monday morning and took cash and shoved items in his pockets and he got away in an electric hover round. officers arrested him a short time later and impounded his motorized wheels. the tune inn bar is open once again. they opened for the first time since a fire in june. that fire started in the kitchen and caused a lot of damage to the bar. supporters helped raise $40,000 to pay the staffers who were out of the work.

it opened in 1947 and has the second oldest liquor license in the city. doug is here with more about the weekend weather. we have changes huh? >> today we saw temperatures approaching 60 degrees and then we saw the cold front come through. we saw the clouds early and the wind picked up. we saw sunshine all a clash of the seasons right now. fall turning into winter in some locations and will the feel more like winter than fall tomorrow. out there right now clear skies across the area but still breezy conditions. the temperatures not too bad at 46 degrees but they're held up by the winds. the winds which make it feel cooler are sitting at 14 miles per hour. but until those winds die down the temperatures will have a hard time going down. once they do, the temperatures will fall quickly. they have fallen in frederick. 36 degrees there. manassas at 43. gaithersburg at 39. this is the area with lower

winds out there right now. as we look at the metro area, 41 in camp springs. warmer along the bay. annapolis with a temperature of about 50 degrees. we saw the frontal boundary moving to the south. now we are talking about clearer skies. that allows any heat from the afternoon radiate back into space. that's what is going to happen tonight. once the winds go down we will see the chilly air invade the area. tomorrow morning you will notice a big difference from the way you walked outside this morning. you will need the coats as you step out as high pressure will be develop nating. we will see shoon but it won't help the temperatures. the average high temperature is 62. the forecasted high tomorrow is 52. ten degrees below the average and that is with abundant sunshine. things get better on sunday. a cold night saturday night into the day on sunday. but plenty of sunshine again.

high temperatures five degrees below average. once the area of high pressure slides off the coast another change moves in and this you will like. clear, cold, and breezy, 27 to 37 inside the beltway with a wind of 5 to 10 miles per hour. a wind chill of the lower 20s tomorrow morning. plenty of sun tomorrow, breezy at times and chilly. 50 to 53 degrees. winds gusting up to 10 to 20 miles per hour and that will make it feel cooler. tomorrow night don't forget to set the clocks back before you go to bed. you get an extra hour of sleep and that is good news for most of us out there. in the next couple days, 56 on sunday and then we get into what i think could be one of the nicest stretches in a while. 63 on monday, 66 on tuesday. 65 on wednesday. that is a dry period. the next chance for rain is next thursday and that will be

an update on the breaking news on route 50 in maryland. the eastbound lanes remain closed after two young children were killed in an awful car accident tonight just east of martin luther king highway. is it not clear how long the investigation will take or when the eastbound lanes will reopen. but it could be several more hours. stay clear of this area if at all possible route 50 in the beltway. the cardinals one an exciting world series and after all that they didn't get what they should have got. it's a rite of passage to receive a phone call from the white house. but tony larussa says that call never came from president obama and in fact, says the coach, they're still waiting. seems like beyonce and jz
