she was taken to the hospital where she died. police say 23-year-old shawnee liggins stabbed her after they got into an argument. liggins is held on first and second degree murder charges. both attended frostburg state university. police are asking for your help in trying to find a man who tried to abduct an 8-year-old girl. it's the latest in a rash of abduction attempts in the area. news 4's derrick ward joins us from the newsroom with the very latest on this search. derrick? >> well, it indeed has happened again. an attempted abduction in sponsylvania county. it occurred in satterfield court. an 8-year-old girl tells police she was approached by an adult male who tried to force her into his vehicle. it is reported to be an econoline van, spray painted black and may have the word

mallory spray painted on the side. this is the fifth similar incident in the past three weeks. a 20-year-old woman was walking in governors green subdivision near innisbrook circle. she said four men in a black four-door honda pulled alongside her. someone opened one of the rear doors and said let's go. she ran and the honda sped off. before that around 7:30 in the evening a 17-year-old girl reported she was walking garrison woods apartment complex when someone in a beige car started following her. the driver told her to get in and threatened to make her get in. she ran off spe sped off. police don't believe they are connected but that's not being completely ruled out. there are differing descriptions. it is serving to put the county on notice regarding safety issues especially as it relates to females and tuckly female children. we want to show you some

low 40s out there. so that is welcomed news. boy, it sure was a cold start for you folks out in the western suburbs, the blue ridge and the shenandoah valley. mountains of west virginia all below freezing early this morning now thanks to early morning sunshine. things are improving just a bit from a temperature standpoint. right here in town and areas east and south have a little bit more in the way of cloud cover to deal with. this is unfortunately a little part of your forecast for today. we won't goat to keep the beautiful bright through skies like we had yesterday. nonetheless, these are not rain-making clouds. they will dim our sunshine a little bit from time to time. so not a bad-looking day to be outside, just not quite as pretty as yesterday. temperature now 43 degrees in washington with a light wind out of the northeast only 3 miles per hour. as you get out towards manassas, dulles, restin, leesburg, 30s and 40s. they were all in the upper 20s an hour and a half ago. so the sunshine is at least working its imagine you can in

jumping on a car. >> those citations carry a total of $30 in fines for each protester. d.c. police say if they receive additional information or evidence they will consider it in this case. but at this point the driver has not been charged. in northwest washington, darcy spencer, news 4 today. in atlanta, police arrested several demonstrators during an occupy protest. they were ordered out of a local park but refused. dozens of officers arrived in riot gear and arrested protesters mostly for not obeying orders to remain on the sidewalk. officials would not say how many were arrested. last month the mayor officially issued an executive order allowing them into the park but later revoked it citing security concerns. tragedy in vancouver. a woman died yesterday afternoon after police found her unresponsive inside her tent. there are reports she died of a

drug overdose, but police have not confirmed that. vancouver's mayor has ordered the tent city that popped up during the protest to be cleared as soon as possible. thousands made their voices heard through their bank accounts yesterday as they took part in bank transfer day. they moved their money from big banks into smaller ones, more local banks and credit unions. this comes as bank to bank of america and other national banks announcing fees for credit card usage even though most backed off the fees. that didn't stop many of them from making a statement. >> to be part of the bigger movement to try to take back control of our finances and our economy. >> they're paying their top executives top dollar and then trying to charge people fees just to use their own money. >> financial analysts say since bank of america introduced their monthly debit card fee just a few weeks ago, 650,000 americans switched to credit unions. that's more than all of last year.

presidential hopeful herman cain is trying to put allegations of sexual harassment in the rear-view mirror. he joined newt gingrich for a debate put on by a texas tea party group. they talked about health care, entitlement programs, voter i.d., and of course taxes. >> i'm about fixing the problem. and one of the biggest problems we have is that the payroll tax is the biggest tax that a lot of workers pay. >> cain said he would no longer answer questions about sexual harassment cases and said reporters who asked about them are unethical. he's not at the top of the polls but they appear to be the choice of voters in illinois. the texas congressman won the state's republican straw poll yesterday with 52% of the vote.

a former penn state football coach is in jail this morning accused of abusing at least eight young boys. investigators say former defensive coordinator jerry sandusky used his position of power to prey on boys as young as 7 years old. the criminal complaint said sandusky would befriend the boys before assaulting them. two other school officials, including penn state's athletic director face charges for trying to cover the incidents up. former heavyweight boxing champ joe frazier is fighting for his life. the opponent, cancer. the prognosis is not good, though. frazier was moved into hospice five weeks after learning he had liver cancer. frazier, who was known as smoking joe, was the first boxer to beat mohammed ali in 1971. the two would meet in the ring two more times with ali winning both.
