>> the decision will end joe paterno's 46-year career immediately. he will not coach the team on saturday. dan hellie is here with more. >> minutes ago joe paterno told the associated press right now i'm not the football coach and i have to get used to it. the board of trustees fired paterno and the president. the firings came after charges of jerry sandusky. earlier today paterno said he would retire at the end of the season. paterno is college football's winningest coach. he spent 62 years at penn state 46 as the head coach. the furor over how the sandusky sex abuse allegations led to the

washington nationals's rising star wilson ramos. prayers are coming in from around the world tonight. shomari stone joins us from nationals park. >> reporter: the details are sketchy right no. but we are hearing that wilson ramos has been kidnapped in venezuela. nationals fans who come here to watch him play and cheer him on tonight they are concerned. according to venezuelan's national newspaper the catcher was taken by four gunmen at his home. he is from venezuela and returned home after his season with major league baseball to play winter baseball. the kidnappers have not contacted the family with ransom innovation. i talked to nats fans tonight and they are shocked by all this. >> that's horrible. >> you are a die-hard nationals fan. how do you feel about this news? >> this is unbelievable. i mean, i don't know what to

a government official told the washington post that the remains could not be identified and they are now buried at sea. the news comes a day after the discovery of mishandling of bodies. an 8-year-old boy is lucky to be alive after being hit by a metro bus. news4 has the video on that. aaron gilchrist now with the remarkable story. >> reporter: first thing to tell you is that the boy is okay. he was not seriously hurt. he was crossing the street with his mother when someone that nobody saw coming happened and it was all caught on tape. the view from inside this bus is frightening as an eight-year-old is hit by thes but. he comes out of nowhere and throws his hands up. >> this boy approximately eight years old ran out from between parked cars. >> a camera recorded inside and

outside thes but as it drove up 29th street northwest just before 9:00 a.m. >> reporter: metro says that the boy darted out between two cars and was hit by the bike rack on thats but. it left a bruce. >> reporter: metro says that even though thes but was only doing 10 to 15 miles per hour the outcome could have been different if the bike rack hasn't come between the bus and the boy. >> this operator has three decades of experience. it is unnerving to have something this close. >> reporter: the metro spokesman says that near misses happen daily for the metro buss in the region. we showed you video from buses 234 which pedestrians and bicyclists darted in front of these vehicles. metro says that actual contact is rare because drivers go through two months of training. >> there is no substitute for bus operators who are

well-trained and alert. >> no one was seriously hurt but metro says the drivers and public have to use the road with safety in mind. >> never cross the street from between parked cars. >> reporter: we tried to contact the boy's family several times today. they did not respond. no one is facing charges in this incident. back to you. tonight a fugitive from the law for 15 years is behind bars. armed robbery suspect william rohman turned himself in to police tonight. he said he was tired of running and gave up. he is accused of robbing a 79-year-old man back in 1997. he twice appeared on "america's most-wanted". herman cain is answering more questions tonight about sexual harassment allegations brought to against him by at

least four women. cain addressed the issue in a presidential debate in michigan tonight. the debate was supposed to be on the economy. but cain had to defend himself against the controversy that dogged him this past week. >> the american people deserve better than someone being tried in a court of public opinion based on unfounded accusations. that's -- >> the women who accused cain are planning to hold a joint news conference. the details of the news conference have not been worked out. a ferocious storm packing 80 to 100-mile-per-hour winds is threatening people in alaska tonight. many have been evacuated. people who stayed behind are being told to safeguard themselves and their property from the blizzards. here in washington the weather is over and changes are rolling in overnight.

with the two churches. doug's here now with more on the changing direction of our weather happening overnight. >> we just came off a stretch of great sunshine and temperatures in the upper 60s. we will move into an area that is cooler and windy. that could last four to five days. i'm talking about winds 20 to 30 miles per hour and maybe more a couple of the days. looking at the boat house down near the kennedy center a beautiful shot and really just a gorgeous evening out there tonight. the temperatures milder than they have been over the last couple days at this hour because of the cold front making its way our way right now. the warmer air ahead of the cold front. the low this morning was 42. the sun wet down at 5:00. tomorrow, the sun goes down before 5:00 for the first time this season at 4:59 tomorrow afternoon. the temperature is at 50

degrees. dew points around 47. we are starting to you see fog develop in some areas. that could be a problem overnight tonight especially on the southern portions o maryland and the eastern shore. same thing in the northern neck. seeing areas of dense fog with visibility less than a half give yourself extra time tonight and tomorrow morning. temperature in leesburg, 46 degrees. but last night we were in the 30s already. doppler radar nothing to show you in the immediate area. but when we widen out just to the west we are talking about shower activity. not a lot of rain here. the moderate to heavy showers are starting to die out. this is not going to be a big rain event. you need to take the umbrella with you as you step out the door but the biggest change is the temperatures and the winds. the high pressure dominating but bringing us mild weather.

tomorrow that frontal boundary crossing the area at 1:00, 1:30 with shower activity and along that front an enhanced area of rain. the best chance is from washington south and east into maryland. chilly air and windy conditions moving in for the day on friday. tomorrow the winds 10 to 20 miles per hour. friday 20 to 30 miles per hour and many areas in the upper 40s all day long even with the sunshine. and there will be snow in portions of west virginia. tomorrow 42 to 49 degrees. the winds northwest at 5 to 10. increasing to 10 to 20 late in the afternoon with a new showers. it will be breezy and ten degrees cooler tomorrow with a high of 53 to 57 degrees. then on friday a high of 52 but most areas in the 40s for veterans day. winds 20 to 30 miles per hour. they will increase upwards of 30

the skins over the last decade they have not lost five in a row since 2001. that could happen this weekend. this weekend going down the miami 4 1/2 point underdogs. the dolphins have one win this season. matt moore was the offensive player of the week this week. he had a breakout performance last week. moore threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns including this 35-yard bomb. moore also did not throw an interception. meanwhile the dolphins defense harassed matt cassel with five sacks. the redskins know they will have their hands full. >> this team is a good football team. and they just had a big win and they will be confident. we need to continue to be confident even though we have had struggles. we need to continue that

confidence. we are capable of it. >> the dolphins could be a 4-4 team. they played a lot of teams close. we are not taking them as a one-win team but as a competitive football team we have to prepare for and be ready to play. >> atogwe and the redskins take on the 1-7 miami dolphins. maryland's athletic department is facing a $4.7 million deficit this year. they are taking action. up to ten sports which is one-third of the varsity programs could be eliminated. the men's and women's swimming and diving teams have been recommended for elimination. a final decision but the school president is expected by the end of the up month. the water polo team is also bracing to be cut. the swimming center in college park was in use as the teams get ready for a competition this weekend. both have started facebook pages

and have 8,000 members trying to save the programs. some of the members include underarmor founder and ceo kevin plank, current nba players and former georgetown star chris wright. today the members of the swim team put their frustration into words. >> yeah emotional. there were tears. people didn't believe it at first i think. i think it has not set in completely yet. it's a recommendation that has gone to the president. there is no final decision yet. we won't know until the end of the month or sooner. so right now it's worse because we know that it's been sent to him and we know what they want to do and we are waiting to hear the words your program has been cut. it's really an emotional day for us yesterday. a couple more news and notes.
