place at world war ii memorial. and police insist the kidnapped player is alive. news4's, megan mcgrath has more. >> reporter: good morning, barbara. fans are rallying around wilson ramos and his family giving whatever support they can. here at t here at the nat's stadium, we have signed, it says free number 3 on the ticket booth, and that's ramos's number. and there's something on the internet, and it's called freewils freewilsonramos.com. and that just popped up here as well. later on tonight, also at nat's stadium, a vigil. it has been over 36 hours since he disappeared and still no word from the kidnappers, they have

not asked for any kind of ransom money. in terms of the investigation, it's still very active. police in venezuela did track down the suv used in the abduction. they had crime scene techs go over it closely looking for clues or physical evidence that could help lead them to the people responsible for the kidnapping. now, the venezuelan newspaper said ramos had just signed an autograph for a boy when somebody came and put him in the suv, and a group of children witnessed it. ramos is the first active baseball player to be abducted, but there has been incidents in venezuela where family members have been taken and held for ransom. many wealthy athletes have taken

out kidnap insurance. >> venezuela, i believe, within the last two years, i believe it was '09, had over 600 kidnapping of wealthy and prominent individuals, including sports figures. >> reporter: the candlelight vigil tonight at 6:00 here at the national's stadium. and then nbc news has learned that joe paterno has reached out the a prominent crimin criminal defense lawyer here in the district. we're told he has not met with the ex-coach and no retainer agreement has been finalized. a key figure in the jerry

sandusky scandal will not be at the game. he is getting death threats. mcquary testified in front of a grand jury that he saw the coordinator allegedly assaulting a young boy and told paterno about it. there's a large police presence on the campus now. students say it's time to focus on what is important. >> joe paterno has always been my hero. i have been a penn state fan since i was 3 years old. this is a horrible case and you have to look at the victims. if he did cover it up, i don't think i can look at him the same way again. >> the pennsylvania governor and the board of trustees are meeting to appoint a group to

see who knew about it. we will have live reports on the situation there. turning to the weather now, it's cold out there, and it has been really blustery this morning. tom kierein joins us with our first look athe forecast this midday. hey, tom. how's it going? >> the cold winds have been bloeg at 30 to 35 miles per hour in the last few hours and bringing in a few clouds as well, and those will be with us from time to time as you get into the afternoon hours. right now the temperatures are holding steady generally in the mid and upper 40s. right now reagan national at 47. and later in the day with a few clouds coming through, we will have the gusty winds, and it will be sunny with the temperatures sunny. it does make it feel a lot chillier than 53 for the high. and it's going to get cold tonight. we will look at that, but a bit

able to see this in ultraviolet light. that was back on tuesday that we saw that. it came within the moon's orbit. wonderful from the nasa swift satellite. we have a beautiful morning under way, at least the way it looks. doesn't feel that way when you step outside. the winds are swirling down the sidewalks and the leaves are blowing all over the place. right now, 47 at reagan national. northwest wind, around 20. that's sustained. we have had even higher gusts. over the last 12 hours, we have seen some clouds closing back in after we clear out last night. and high clouds and puff cumulus clouds moving our way, and those will be here from time to time as we get into the rest of the afternoon. we will have them break up as we get into the evening hours, and then it will be colder tonight. right now in the region, temperatures in the mid-and upper 40s, which would seem like

a fairly pleasant november day. 33 miles per hour, and it feels colder, just at a nearly 40 miles per hour gusts at annapolis. white caps on the potomac river and at the bay. it's all around the region from the mountains all the way to the atlantic beaches. now for us going over the next 48 hours, we will have a clear sky for the most part. later today, those clouds will be breaking up. the winds will diminish, and the temperatures will plummet all the way down into the upper 20s throughout the region for tomorrow morning. and saturday night into sunday, why not have a few high clouds drifting into the region, otherwise a beautiful warmup on the way. for the rest of the veteran's day this friday, it will be blustery and chilly. we will have the sunshine, but winds gusting to 35, and highs climb into the low 50s briefly, but it's not going to feel that warm with the wind.

and sunset, an early 4:58, and then the clearing of the wind, and temperatures in the mid-40s early evening, and then by midnight down in the upper 30s, and then the wind diminishing in the southwest overnight tonight. and then by dawn the upper 20s throughout much of the region, and in the cities maybe the mid-30s. and highs will reach near 60, and then sunday, a beautiful november day. it should be cold in the morning, mid-30s, and afternoon highs in the mid-60s, and then monday clouds close in. we will have a front approaching. that may give us a few scattered showers on monday, and otherwise mostly cloudy and highs in the mid-60s. that front will slowly be leaving the region on tuesday. there is still a possibility of a passing shower on tuesday, but still mild. and then as we get towards the middle of the next week and towards the middle of the week, it gets chilly again. overall, a nice weekend after this cold friday. >> thank you, tom. and danella, how is it looking on the roads right now?

for the national's catcher, wilson ramos. national's fans are planning to hold a candlelight vigil outside the national's park at 6:00 tonight. and today marks the first birthday for lisa irwin, the girl that went missing a month ago. her mother admits that she was drunk the night the baby disappeared. a cadaver dog indicated a positive hit for the search of a dead body while searching the family home. >> a new documentary chronicles the trial from the point of view from murray and his defense team. he talk bz a strange encounter when he agreed to make michael jackson his only patient. >> dr. conrad, i have watched

government. democrat conceded. the republican won by 222 votes, and that's less than a percentage point. republicans are in control of the senate, the house of delegates and the executive mansion. virginia republican, george allen, picked up an endorsement to recapture his u.s. senate seat. bob mcconnell is expected to endorse allen later today. he is running against a virginia tea party leader and a businessman among other candidates. they are hoping to win jim webb's seat. he is retiring after one term in office. after being closed after 2 1/2 months because of earthquake damage, the cathedral is set to re-open. it will re-open to the public for the first time tomorrow

since the earthquake. complete repairs will cost millions of dollars. it will hold a week-long celebration starting tomorrow. other events in the coming week include a celebration of the u.s. marine corps and an inner faith day of prayer. schools in virginia will get assistance from fema. thomas jefferson, elementary, and the high school suffered most of the damage and are closed indefinitely while crews make repairs. the agency will help county residents whose homes were damaged as well. let's go to tom and find out about the weekend. >> what a chill in the air. it feels like december. we have got that gusty wind buffeting our camera here in upper northwest washington. the sky watcher jumping around here. the leaves have come off the tree here since the morning. and sidewalks, swirling leaves,

and we had our sky go partly cloudy after some sun this morning. we will have a few clouds coming through between now and 3:00, and then we will clear out after that. temperatures are in the 40s. 47 at reagan national, but it certainly feels colder than that with the gusty winds. latest wind gusts now have been around 25 to 35 miles per hour, and annapolis had a gust of 39 miles per hour. and these blustery winds will be with us here for another few hours and then diminish tonight. temperatures will plummet too under a clear sky down in the upper 20s and low 30s. and afternoon high around 60. great weather for the notre dame and maryland game on saturday. sunday, sunny and milder in the afternoon. a mild start to the week, and maybe a few showers around. that's the way it looks now. >> okay, tom, thank you. metro is using the holiday weekend to do tract work. four stations on the green line are closed now.

they closed at 10:00 last night and will stay closed until monday morning, while crews replace the switches. shuttle buses will be used. metro will provide buses between those stations as well. we are going to check the midday traffic again. it looks like a lot of people are getting ready to head out of town on i-95. starting to see some delays as you travel southbound. i will give you a view at route 1. the lanes are packed as you head towards prince william parkway. but i-95 in both directions, no accidents to report at this time. traveling i-66, here is the view at fairfax county parkway, you are in the clear and lanes are open. 66 inside and outside of the beltway, no problems for you. and then the american legion bridge, nice and clear, inner loop and outer loop. back to you, barbara.

the federal government is close to reaching a deal with -- that will protect your privacy on facebook. the federal trade commission is negotiating with the social networking sight over many features many people consider deceptive. the sides are close to an agreement which would ban facebook making public any information you shared

privately, and they would agree to privacy audits for 20 years. the nba lockout will last through at least this weekend. the league presented players with a new offer yesterday after 11 hours of bargaining, but player representatives won't meet to discuss the offers until monday or tuesday at the earliest. the proposal is said not to address the issues concerning the players. should players accept the deal, the commissioner says the league could play a 72-game season starting december 15th. it's going to be a homecoming of sorts when the redskins take on the dolphins this sunday. beck will be playing against his former team. beck has yet to win a game as an nfl starter. but offensive coordinator, shanahan has been feeling the heat lately. they scored only a single touchdown in the last two games. the scrutiny is part of the job, though, is what he says.

we'll be watching. and the winds just keep blowing. we have had the gusts up to as much as 40 miles per hour. right now we're seeing a few clouds coming through. that's a live picture from the sky watcher camera, the view from space, showing the clouds coming in on the gusty winds from the north and northwest, and they will be drifting over the region here off and on for the next several hours and then they will go clear tonight and the temperatures will plummet. right now we're in the mid-and upper 40s, and 47 at reagan national. we ought to hit the low 50s in another couple hours, and then we will have it drop dramatically as the winds die down under a clear sky. right now the latest wind gusts, we have had peak gusts at 40 miles per hour, and especially near the bay and any area open and away from the trees, and you will have a higher gusts of course on the higher ridges to the west. as the day progresses, we will have the clouds in and out and the winds diminishing tonight, and the temperatures will be down in the 20s to near 30 tomorrow morning. and then saturday afternoon,
