earshot of the secret service. we begin with jackie bensen. >> reporter: we need to tell you that a massive manhunt is underway at this time for a man who was seen firing what is described as an ak-47 with a scoop nowhere the white house at 16th and constitution northwest at the ellipse at the backside of the white house. you can see video of what it looks like right now. a man got out of a honda sedan with idaho license plates and began firing. we don't know if anything was struck. investigators are trying to find shell casings. because of the proximity to the white house the secret service was on the scene in seconds. officers took off in pursuit down constitution avenue. they were joined by d.c. police and arlington police at one point. constitution avenue was closed

from 16th street to 23nd. 23nd and constitution is where the chase ended. constitution is open now. back to you. >> thank you, jackie. just up the street is where shomari stone a few minutes after the gunshots and found the police there surrounding one car. he continues our coverage now. >> reporter: first i want to tell our viewers that 23nd street and constitution avenue has reopened. the cars are now going through. it is important to point out when we arrived on scene we saw the secret service agents by the car and all over the place. they are concerned because this happened in such close proximity to the white house and the washington monument. you can see the cars are now going through to interstate 66 leading to the roosevelt bridge. this is what it was like on

scene. the d.c. police found one of the cars involved in the shooting abandoned on constitution avenue. they are looking for the driver right now as jackie bensen told you. possible passengers and shell casings. they launched a police helicopter and have searched the roosevelt bridge. >> do you think there was one driver or two people in the car? >> i don't have have that yet. i think the thing that makes this of interest is simply the location. a bit like real estate the fact it occurred outside the white house area. there is no link to the white house as far as this is concerned. >> reporter: the park police gentleman walked up to us and said they found a rifle in the car. my colleague jackie bensen described it as an ak-47. it is important to point out

baseball stadium hoping for ramos' safe return. students gather for a solemn as much as at penn state university as the focus shifts to the alleged victims of child sex abuse. the campus has a much everyone doubt feel than two nights ago. the emotions are running high and concerns remain about safety ahead of tomorrow's football game. there are reports that former wide receivers coach mike mcqueary is in protective custody and the university is safeguarding all events this weekend including no bags at athletic events. president obama said tonight while people care about sports the number one priority has to be protecting our kids. and every institution has to examine how their operate. chris gordon as more from the campus. >> the penn state students don't

want to be remembered for the riting this week. they want to be thought of for their traditions, for their caring and their sharing. they made it clear tonight at a candle light vigil for the victims of child sex abuse. it began with music. thousands of people gathered together holding candles, filling the lawn with light. we asked students from our area why they came? >> right now it is not all about joe paterno and the administration. they messed up but we have to help out the kids. >> this is a horrible tragedy but we have to rise above. >> reporter: two victims of abuse not connected with the scandal today spoke. there were tears. this is a way to remember those who were sexual abused not with violence like on tuesday night

tractor trailer near exit 150 in prince william county. two of the suspects took off running. the third was injured and air lifted to a hospital. one day after being appointed to the position the man in charge of reviewing mortuary problems is stepping down. richard carmona is leaving the panel to run for the senate. the pentagon admitted that veterans remains were mistreated in dover. some were cremated and dumped in a land vil in virginia. police in missouri to search for a missing baby girl today as the child's family marked her first birthday. her parents think she was kidnapped from their home. the parents are not cooperated. their attorney argue that the couple was interviewed for more than 30 hours on five occasions.

it's one of the newest ways that teenagers are getting high and it's all on their computer. they are referred to as sonic or digital drugs. they are sounds that appear to have an intense impact on the mind. you can download the sounds from the websites. the sellers claim that listening to the frequencies can make you feel euphoric or energized. teens say it is similar to the experience of using real drugs. that has addiction specialists concerned. >> it's not exactly the same but it's near the same. >> it's not like you listen to an high dose for crack cocaine and then you are smoking a crack pipe. but if you have an

northwesterly. tomorrow we stay be with the sun but it shifts out of of the southwest. it will be a warming wind and the temperatures should climb about 10 degrees warmer than today. on sunday more wind and cloud cover but milder conditions as temperatures on sunday afternoon should be in the low 60s. so that's good news there. tomorrow morning mostly clear, breezy and cold. the wind chills in the 20s. temperatures tomorrow actual temperatures about 26 to -- 27 to about 36 degrees. tomorrow afternoon pleasant request of sunshine. a nice day late because we will see the warming conditions after about noontime. it should be okay. but the winds could gust 25 to 30 miles per hour. will the stay breezy during the day on sunday with 61 degrees. monday is 64. we'll still see 20-mile-per-hour winds but no one is complaining.

we lost joe frazier a couple days ago and i mourn his passing. he was one of the greatest heavyweights that ever live. with the instincts of a warrior and i know that for a fact. he almost killed me. in 1968 i was a cub reporter at a tv station in philly assigned to do a piece on this young phenom who levelled in philadelphia. we were talking outside champ's gym and i thought it would distinguish my report to do street corner boxing with the catch. there were rules to the exercise. closed hand punches to the body and open hand to the head. the point is to demonstrate your speed and agility.

i failed to open my hand on the shot to the head. what happened next was one of the scariest thing i have seen in my life. he had been hit and his instinct was to return fire immediately. the man hit me twice so fast and so hard i dropped to my knees and could not breathe and thought i was going to die. joe couldn't help hitting me like that but as soon as he did it he dropped to his knees and helped me up and while he was apologizing i was think for those two shots went to my head, the man would have killed me. smoken joe is gone now but i'm so sorry but i'm happy to be here because he was a nice guy until and unless you hit him. >> did that make it in your report? >> absolutely not.
