safe and sounlds. two days after he was kidnapped at gunpoint, washington nationals' captured wilson ramos saved. well to news 4 weekend. we begin with that developing story out of venezuela. nationals catcher wilson ramos is alive and safe this morning 48 hours after being kidnapped from his family's home. seen here in the hat has not been heard fra since he was taken at gunpoint wednesday night. overnight the national guard found him alive in a remote mountainous area of the country and performed a rescue operation by air. three of his alleged abductors

were also arrested. general manager mike izzo read a statement last night that reads in part we are thrilled with reports that wilson has been rescued and is be being safely returned to his family. we greetly appreciate all the prayers and thoughts of all. we are eager to see wilson and know others all over the world are waiting for this news. we'll have more on this story as the information becomes available. our other big story this morning, perhaps the most anticipated football game of the year, and it has very lit doll with action on the field. today penn state takes on nebraska since the first day the sex abuse scandal turned into the most talked about story in the country. this comes after a week of anger and many, many questions. last night thousands of penn state students gathered on

campus for a candlelight vittle. jay gray is live at university park this morning with more on this story. good morning, jay. >> reporter: good morning, angie. the nittany lions prepare to play a game without the legendary coach for the first time in more than six decades. students nap out like they do before every home game at beaver stadium but today will be different. playing for the first time in more than 60 years would legendary coach joe paterno, fired in the wake of a sex abuse scandal and questions about whether he covered up things. >> whether he was right or wrong, no matter which way you

look at, he was a father figure here. late friday his son scott released a written statement on behalf of his father that says in part, he is absolutely distraught over what happened to the children and their families. he also wants very much to speak publicly and answer questions. at this stage, however, he has no choice but to be patient and defer to the legal process. the family has hired a lawyer as the university moves forward with its investigation with ken frazier, a penn state alum to lead it. at least for a few hours today the tension will shift to this field. >> i think it's going to bring us all together. it's going to be a game that goes down in history. >> reporter: the history that is now being questioned at penn state. now, kick-off is set for noon here, a game that most agree

the anne arundel police department. that number is 412-8610. this morning police are looking for a person who possibly fired gunshots near the white house. authorities got reports of shots fired around 9:30 last night near constitution avenue and 16th street. police say a man gout out of a car with a gun, possibly an aka 47 with a scope and began firing. police cannot say for sure that anything was struck but the area was reason for concern. >> i think the thing that makes this of interest is simply the location, real estate. the fact that this occurred outside of the white house area. at this point we don't see any link to the white house as far as this incident is concerned. >> u.s. park police say two cars were seen leaving the area. authorities found an abandoned car possibly involved in the

than $25 million. and a nuclear power plant near the epicenter of the august quake is getting go-ahead to restart this morning. the north power station in louisa county has been offline since the 5.2 quake. dominion power who owns the plant says it spent more than 100,000 hours and $21 million inspecting the reactors. federal regulators ran tests and say the plant did not suv err any functional damage. it will taken ten days for the plant to be fully operational. three good samaritans from arlington received an unusual reward for their very good deed. a pizza. back in august, two men were waiting on their porch for a pizza delivery when they heard a woman being attacked. they tackled the suspect while waiting for police while a third friend helped the woman. during their heroic attack they missed out on their pizza.

into mishandlings of remains in delaware has stepped down after one day on the jochblt dr. richard carmona announced he's running for senate. he's going to review problems at the dover air force space mortuary. he stepped down yesterday. earlier this week the pentagon admitted remains were mistreated. some were cremated and dumped in landfill in virginia. the controversy surrounding solyndra and the white house almost cost steven chu his job. an e-mail called chu, quote, a brilliant man but not perfect for the energy department emissions. the e-mail was released by house republicans who are investigating a $500 million federal loan. the company recently declared bankruptcy and laid off about 1,100 workers. eight securities and exchange commission employees

have been punished for failing to uncover the bernie madoff ponzi scheme. the s.e.c. general investigated it. ten of those employees have since left the agency. the s.e.c. has been criticized for failing to spot madoff's $50 million scheme. the tri-state oversight committee studied metro workers and fatigue and discovered many were overworked. that i say they work so often partially to help pad their paychecks but also because they feel the pressure of metro's $5 billion improvement plan. one woman was documented working 112 hours. seven straight days of 16-hour shifts. speaking of metro four stations on the green line, they're closed the weekend because of

right around town the color held on a little late this year. veterans day, yesterday, hopefully everybody got a chance to get outside a thank a vete n veteran's hand. it's never too late to say thank you, is it? no no, not really. it's going to take a beating. the wind made it pretty to watch the leaves fly but but the leaves are going to be gone in another week or so. most leaves are all but gone in much of the high parts. outside for now, though, look at that beautiful sky out there waiting on the sun. the sun's about 30 minutes or so away from coming up. it's going be a beauty of the day outside. right now 35 degrees at national airport. the winds have laid down just a bit during the overnight hours but i think with day time heating we'll be able to mix up the air and bring it and bring them down to the surface. do expect a somewhat breezy day

but not quite as bad as yesterday. 40 in guy gagt thersburg. national airport not down to the freezing mark yesterday. certainly everybody to the north and west has been. 33 degrees down into st. mary's county, 37 at the naval acad many in annapolis. mid-40s. upper 40s and near 50 degrees in many spots for this afternoon. then a very chilly night. nothing showing up on radar, so we don't have anything to show rainfall wise. a few fair weather clouds. high pressure is in charge of our pressure, so bright sunshine, a little breezy at time ts for today. but with all that sunshine out there and temperatures close to maybe even a tick or two warmer than average, no real

complaints. torl we'll start to pick up a little more in the way of cloud cover, but that's all right. a pressure trough come ts our way. that will increase the clouds. i think that's going be late tuesday before we have to worry about rain drops. for today, sunny, breezy, a little milder. highs in the upper 50s, low 60s. mostly sunny. probably two or three degrees warmer than today and a little bit less of a breeze for tomorrow. still breezy but nowhere near as breezy as it was yesterday. for today, 62. tomorrow, 64. a mild stretch of weather coming our way. tuesday, that's when the raindrops appear and cooling down just a touch as we finish out the workweek. college football maryland and notre dame at landover field. 7:30 kick-off. 55 degrees at kick-off time. you know the drill by now.

both are catholic schools. they included the pregame and halftime teams. bishop mack na mara's team and orchestra director will root for both schools. ing. >> maryland swimming and diving teams will be looking to drum up some support tonight outside the saves their programs. both are part of a group of at least ten maryland teams that could be cut because of a $4.7 million athletic department deficit. the swimming and polo teams have been recommended for elimination. they'll be passing out fliers tonight and are starting facebook pages that are getting the support of kevin plank and former basketball player gravis vazquez. fall weekends are usually reserved for football. but there's a new sport called

it's a cold one. 35 degrees at national airport where you're looking live. 37 degrees at the naval academy in annapolis. 25, though, manassas, culpeper. temperatures in the mid to upper 20s. low 30s in shenandoah county. zippo on the radar and we have absolutely positively no chance whatsoever of anything other than maybe a leaf falling from the sky today. bright and sunny. temperatures will be zipped up into the mid-40s by late morning. high 50s, low 60s and then the sun goes back down at 4:57. boy, i hate those before 5:00 sunsets. sunny, breezy, sun is down at 4:57 and we voluming up on the 9:00 hour. football forecast.

near the roosevelt bridge. d.c. officials say a family of a victim shot and killed by the police has agreed to a settlement. they sued for the wrongful death of their family back in 2007. police shot and kill e ed rauli. no gun was ever found at the scene. the terms of the settlement have not been released. the sources tell "news 4" it was less than 1 million dollars. mayor vincent gray must still approve the settlement. authorities in vermont said a military veteran shot himself in taenlt in salt lake city. police say man died of a drug use and carbon mon ox pied poisoning from a propane heater and a man was killed during a protest in oakland, california.

they say the nation wide protests are putting a strain on police resources. a top city official says he sees few public safety problems with regard to occupy d.c. program. police plan to get tougher after unruly violence broke out last weekend. tom sherwood has our report. >> reporter: the confrontation at the convention center last friday night disrupted traffic, brought about injuries and complained police weren't controlling the streets. statements were issued warning of tougher enforcement in the wake of those incidents but not everyone agrees the protests are getting more violent. >> do you think they're unsafe now? >> well, no. it's not struck me at dangerous or a public safety threat. >> reporter: on the cojo politics hour, d.c. council ju

dishaire chair man phil mendelson said he thought the convention center was an exception with too few officers on hand. >> something happened at the convention center last friday night. unquestionfully there were questions. it was clearly a public safety issue, but in terms of the protests in general, what i've seen has been peaceful, and it's expressing an opinion, which is an american right. >> reporter: one protester said on the politics hour that the protesters are trying to be non-violent. >> in the beginning we were respectful. we listened to everything they were saying. we had no problems at all. we were escalating but escalating peacefully. our tactic has always been a nonviolent movement. >> reporter: protester camps at mcpherson square and blocks away

at free dam plaza were mostly quiet as protesters hunkered down against the cold and biting wind. a former marine hurt in a clash between police and protesters in oakland last month is now out of the hospital. scott o scott olsen was hit in the head by a tear gas canister last month. he was left in critical condition. those close to him say the 24-year-old is still struggling with speech after two weeks in hospital. security forces in turkey shot and kill add man who hijacked a ferry and took 20 people hostage. it happened just before dawn on the coast. officials say the hijacker took the ship on friday and was armed with explosives. after a 12-hour standoff security forces stormed the boat and killed him. the face of mexico's war against drugs has died in a

helicopter crash. he was traveling to a meeting yesterday when the chopper he was in with seven others went down south of mexico city. everyone on board was killed. blake mora was mexican president felipe calderon's point man. the prot says it was likely an accident caused by foggy conditions but the investigators are at the crash site to confirm the cause. a texas judge seen on video beating his daughter can now not seen his younger child. a restraining order was placed against william adams. a warning this video may be disturbing. >> dad? >> bend over the bed. bend over the bed. bend over the bed. >> stop, stop. >> and his older daughter hosted an 8-minute video showing her father beating her with a belt back in 2004. she's now 23 years old. the restraining order keeps him
