husband is facing. good afternoon and welcome to news 4 at 4:00. i'm jim handly. >> i'm pat lawson muse. >> the most anticipated decision on the u.s. supreme court and one of the most significant decisions since bush versus gore in the election of 2000. the justice will take the case of the health care overhaul. it's over the white house's centerpiece of domestic policy. arguments will be heard with a decision expected by june. 26 states asked the law be struck down over the individual mandate that requires americans buy health insurance or pay a penalty. so far, lower courts have been split on their decisions of whether the mandate is constitutional. there's fall out in the penn state child sex scandal. at least one of them is ready to file a lawsuit against the university. we have the latest.

>> reporter: as the investigation into child sex abuse moves forward, there is more fall autoaround the accused football coach. the judge who set bail for jerry sandusky was a volunteer and donated money to the second mile a chairly sandusky founded and used to meet the alleged victims. the long-term president of the charity resigned. >> he thought it was in the best interest of the organization to move forward. >> reporter: he is the latest person caught up in it. george paterno who led the lions was fired along with tim curley and gary schultz. the big ten reacting today announcing they are removing paterno's name from the

championship trophy. today, students return to classes and say they hope the university can rebuild its image. >> there's been 156 years of history before this and i hope there will be 156 years or more after this. >> reporter: they are due in court to face charges of lying to the grand jury and covering up reports of the abuse. they are tasked with investigating why the crimes were never reported to police and defending the university against possible civil suits. paterno hired a lawyer in the face of accusations he didn't do enough to address the abuse. his image wels the universities on the line as the case unfolds. bob joins brian williams tonight to talk about the penn state episode on "rock center"

political poll. in the survey, president obama is tied against a generic republican challenger but wins by six if the challenger is romney. i'm steve handelsman, news 4. hundreds of police officers in riot gear cleared out oakland protesters a week after a man was shot to death. at 4:30 a.m., police raided after issuing several warnings over the weekend. they put up little resistance but they arrested 32 people. no reports of injuries. they believe the shooting last week stemmed from a fight of two groups of men at or near the camp. stocks closed lower. it came amid concerns over the debt crisis in europe. the dow was down 72 points on this monday. the nasdaq dropped 21. the s&p 500 was off 11.

italy bid farewell to one prime minister and named another over the weekend. the new leader is described at the opposite of the man he replaces, berlusconi. we have the report. >> reporter: berlusconi was once untouchable. a self-made man, struck his fortune by founding a immediate y empire and is now worth million. he hosted sex parties. a phrase he borrowed from one-time friend moammar gadhafi. then there's ruby. berlusconi allegedly had sex with her when she was 17. he laughed it off. but with each scandal, italian politics became more of a laughing stock to other european leaders. what brought him down wasn't the scandals, it was the economy.

you know, we have been doing the ups and downs, riding the roller coasters with temperatures over the last couple weeks. this week is not going to be different. we start warm and end chilly. let's head to the weather wall and talk about what's going on. sunshine today. mixture of sun and clouds. we are at 72 degrees with a south-southwest breeze coming at 17 miles per hour. love that. these temperatures, too. this is what we're talking about. 70 degrees in gaithersburg. montgomery county, 72. culpeper, 73. 74 degrees in waldorf, maryland. charles county nice and mild now. temperatures easing down to 60 degrees by 11:00 p.m. we pick up the cloud cover. i don't think any rain until some time mid-morning to late morning tomorrow. we start at 57 to 56 degrees. other locations in the 50s. it's not extremely cold tonight. here is a look at the radar.

look at the big yellow box from ohio all the way down to south of st. louis, missouri. a lot of severe weather here. the moist air coming out of the gulf of mexico and helping to drive some severe weather. in fact, tornado watches out here and several warnings in spots like indianapolis, indiana and coming in west of cleveland, ohio right now. all of this, part of the cold front. you can see where the showers hit us. 8:00 or 9:00 a.m., light showers or scattered showers. not a lot tomorrow. wednesday is the soggy day, especially if you are south of d.c. charles county, st. mary's county, calvert county is where much of the wet weather will be on wednesday. it will be soggier than the weather we get tomorrow. here is a look at the evening forecast. simply gorgeous for the evening. sunsets today at 4:55. so early.

street amid continued fears over the debt crisis in europe. the nasdaq was off 21. s&p 500 closed 11 points lower. investigators in washington state are searching for a missing 2-year-old boy. police say they are considering filing charges against the boy's mother. detectives believe the disappearance is tied to the tv show, "law and order." >> reporter: for a week, search teams scoured the streets in bellevue, washington. this is where the little boy vanished. the disappearance is a mystery. just as baffling is his mother's story and lack of cooperation. >> we are frustrated by it. >> reporter: julia told detectives when her car ran out of gas, she left sky behind, asleep in the car as she and her 4-year-old daughter went looking for help.

when she returned an hour later, sky was gone. investigators seized her car and said her story doesn't add up. >> we test drove it. the vehicle operated just fine. >> reporter: sky's mother is in the middle of divorcing sky's father. solman was involved in the search blames the estranged wife. she's not named as a suspect. >> i believe she is responsible. if she could cooperate, we could find where our son is. >> reporter: she won't comment on the active investigation. the mother could now face criminal charges for leaving her son behind. >> that's certainly something we are considering. strategically, it's not a decision we made, yet. >> reporter: another twist in the case says they are intrigued by an episode that aired weeks

before he vanished. a mother tries to cover up the baby's death saying her son was stolen from the car. sthak is her favorite show. >> police are scoured her apartment, where sky often played and a city dump. today, there's no sign of the little boy, only suspicion over his disappearance. >> police say sky's mother refused to take a polygraph test and her story is falling apart. mohammadal ali -- promoter don king was there. frazier died last week after a brief battle with liver cancer. he's noefr as the first man to beat ali, knocking him down in 1971. he was 67 years old.
