from nbc news, this is "today" with kathie lee gifford and hoda kotb. live from studio 1a in rockefeller plaza. >> hey, everybody. it's friday, novemr 18th. kathie lee is not here at this moment. she was giving regis a big good-bye kiss because today was his last show after 28 years. she's allegedly on the way back in a car, but before we go to kathie, let's look at regis and kelly's last day. >> this is our last journey. every morning i'll think about this. this was the highlight of the day, i think. >> it was. i can come over and walk you down the hallway. >> that will be nice. help regis down the hallway. my gosh. >> one more thing, i see.

>> thanks for everything. >> thank you. i love you. >> i love you, too. >> let's do it. >> we're going to do it one more time for the last time. >> "live with regis and kelly." here are regis philbin and kelly ripa. >> oh, my gosh. hello. look at this crowd. everybody we know is here. thank you. >> the audience was filled with big names. among the biggest were kathie lee and frank. kathy, you are on the way back in the car. are you there? >> i'm right here, hoda woman. it was a very special hour. >> tell us about it. >> i had a box of kleenex sitting on my lap just in case. nobody else came prepared either because somebody gave me that box of kleenex. everybody was coming over and

taking -- expecting to fall apart. i didn't cry. i didn't cry until the cast from "rent" started singing that song but changed the lyrics for regis and made it very personal for him. that's when kelly lost it. i saw her losing it. i think a sweet moment for regis. you think 995,600 minutes, spent in a lifetime. 28 years making people smile and making people laugh. look at the situation in a different way. maybe things aren't as bad as i thought they were. always good for a chuckle especially in hard times and we've been through hard times. we need to see the world shinier and brighter. he did that every morning. never a downer. >> such a cool crowd. it was like a who's who kind of deal. you were sitting next to frank

sweet, hoda, looking at regis's family was there today and looking at the girls. his daughters when they were little. that's when i first met regis. they were that little. now they're grown, beautiful women. j.j. has two children. regis and joy are grandparents now. that's when it always gets to me. i was thinking about, you know, when i announced my pregnancies it was on regis's show with him. and when i lost two babies, that's where we shared the news with our audience and then the day my kids were born. so much of my history is wrapped up in regis's life. now i'm falling apart when i think about it. now i'm just sort of a mess. >> i have something waiting for you. can you hear it. can you hear it? >> oh, sure. that's the clinking of glasses waiting for you to get here.

the gang out there. natalie couldn't come because she's in london. there's our boy. he said that would be a screen saver. we'll have to see if that's really the case. >> my arm looks flabby. i don't want him to use that one. >> you looked really pretty. >> it was all about regis today. it was a fun day. >> did he cry? i couldn't tell. >> i don't know. i thought he teared up when the cast of "rent" started singing. who knows what he's really thinking. it brought back a million memories of the day that i left. so much of it retrospectives are the same. kelly is the one that was having problems. she was a mess. she was a mess. she's the one coming back on monday and it will be a new world for her. she's going to miss him more on monday. believe me. she'll be good. >> we should bring in our girl. bobbi thomas, come on in, girlfriend.

>> how are you? >> it is green week, so i wanted to highlight a few things that we could all do to go green. tweet something that you already own. "the big book of crafts" and remember those bottles with the filter you screw on the top? they have come out with pitchers. you can eliminate so many plastics bottles and give as a hostess gift and diapers, how many end up in landfills that don't go away for 500 years. these are little g-diapers. you don't have to wash these. they have an insert that's biodegradable. you throw this out and keep the diaper part. it's less waste. this is biodegradable. all in designer colors. >> thank you. >> thank you. thank you.

family right away after we got married because we wanted kids and lots of them. that was our plan. >> blessed with two sons, growing their family of four proved difficult and they looked to invitro fertilization. in 2008, their daughter mary kate was born. >> it was a huge accomplishment for us. >> a miracle they hoped to repeat. in february 2009, she returned to the same clinic to have some of her remaining embryos implanted. the news was devastating. she was pregnant with another couple's child. >> they transferred the wrong embryos. >> it was just a stunning, stunning moment. >> despite their heartbreak and confusion, the savages were certain about one thing. >> we can't terminate this pregnancy. >> even with risks to her own health, carolyn gave birth to a healthy boy, logan. his parents forever grateful. >> there's no way we would

mary-kate who kind of likes to have fun. >> are you a wild card? >> you're a wild card today. these two babies, how beautiful are these children. are their personalities completely different? >> totally different. reagan was born first and they exactly the way they were before they were born. reagan was a spunky kicker. isabelle is more laid back and quiet. it's amazing that you can tell the difference right away. >> it's incredible what happened to you guys. since you were on the show, we all thought that you had incredible generosity when you had the baby and gave it back to that family. i didn't know if you ever felt -- how you felt toward that family at that point because you were so generous and kind but i guess now with your two new additions, life is calmer. >> we're just so thankful. we're so thankful for jennifer and her gift and we're thankful to paul and shannon. we've seen logan quite a number of times this year.

we celebrated his birthday with him. his 2-year birthday. >> incredible story. >> and they'll all grow up knowing one another. >> it's thanksgiving time. we're very thankful. our family is thankful. we're thankful for our family. >> are you feeling edged out. feeling invisible up there. >> i think the girls are taking over in our house. >> jennifer, you've given this family an incredible gift. you seem just sort of like part of their family as you hold onto that one. tell us what the experience was like for you? >> it was awesome. more than i could have imagined it. it feels really good. >> how comes it makes you feel emotional? >> it just feels really good to help somebody's dreams come true. >> really. >> you feel a bond with jennifer, too, i would imagine. >> i do. i think the grace in which she did what she did for us has helped us better understand what we did. not only did she give us the gift of babies, but she gave us

the gift of that insight. the first time they were placed in our arms, i think of shannon and what that was like to receive logan. we understood what we were doing but until that moment happened, we didn't get it. >> what do you hear from people around the country? your book came out and people have read it. what's the theme of most of the letters to you? >> i think it touches people because even though they're reading about our family, i think they see a little bit of their family in it. they just see the hope of what humanity can do. if anything, we want to be somebody that folks can look to and say what's possible. >> you guys have a large family. are you done? are you thinking about more kids or what do you think? >> if this is our family as it stands right now, it will be perfect. >> i don't know, the duggars are getting nervous.

twihards up all night mplgt >> "twilight" saga "breaking dawn" sold out 3,500 shows before it even opened. one woman that was awaiting the movie debut was nikki reed. she plays the feisty rosalie. how are you? >> i'm all right. >> now we saw the movie about ten days ago or something. we saw the incredible wedding that everybody is talking about. what was it like to be there when it was being shot? >> it was very cold. you don't see that on screen. it looks magical on screen but it was freezing and raining. we're carrying our dresses through the mud. the location without the wedding decor was spectacular. >> was it emotional because it was the end and that you were shooting the last of these. was it tough? >> i feel like if we were on a tv show that got canceled it would be a different kind of --

with the other view. >> and it's frank gifford and donny getting along so nicely. a tailgate party. >> never been dressed up for a tailgate party ever. we'll be right back. good morning. heading into a busy week of travel, thanksgiving just around the corner. let's walk you through the weather. later today, there's going to be a lot of snow and wind across the northern plain suppose the upper midwest. minneapolis, several inches of snow possible for you, as well. the wind will make its way into the denver area. but drying out here all the way into the northeast, looking pretty good and temperatures will slowly start to climb. but notice where the colder air is locked up, with temperatures only in the teens. los angeles ahead of the rain, it's going to be nice for your saturday at 58 degrees. 51 in new york city. that's right about average. it gets warmer by sunday. but sunday the rain gets closer. rain through the interior of the northeast, the ohio valley. all the way down to the southern

plains. so sunday into early next week, scattered thunderstorms here. this will make for difficult traveling. more snow in the rockies and in the pacific northwest. notice the cold air as the cold air dives further to the south but warming ahead of it in the southeast. here's the rain we forecast for monday. again, that will make for wet roads as you're traveling for the holiday. tuesday, this hangs out and it will be a stalled out front, adding the rain up here and that severe weather is a possibility, as well. so we'll watch that monday and tuesday. rain and snow mixed in for the higher elevations on wednesday in the northeast. rain for the southeast, as well. dry through the middle of the country and on thanksgiving day, we clear out nicely here, but chilly, 45 degrees in new york city. 50s in the middle of the country and still a wentry weather moving into the northwest. not much of a break there at all. later today for your saturday forecast, back to this weather here. it's going to be nasty in the northern plains and the upper

maybe these paper banners. we made one for you, hoda, in the front. and one in honor of frank. it says go, giants back here. and i just cut these out and glued them on. so nice and simple. you want to serve food that represents the teams and honors teams that are playing. we did peanuts for virginia tech and when we thought of giants we thought of the big apple. we're serving a grilled apple salad and you can do grilled apples if you are going to the game and tailgating on the portable grill. >> chic for a tailgate. >> you want to do it in style. every good party deserves a signature drink. >> if you are winning, you do. >> either way. so you can taste these.
