ride. a federal express truck collided with the group. it happened in glen echo. the truck hit three people. some suffered broken bones, scrapes and bruises. they were taken to the hospital and expected to be fine. the driver aft fedex truck stayed at the scene. police are investigating but haven't charged anyone, yet. now to late developments in the release of three college students detained in cairo. the mother of sweeney learned this morning the students would be released within hours. >> directly from the police station they are going to be taken to the airport. the university is going to ship their stuff home. i don't care about his stuff, i just want him home. >> that's joy sweeney on fox news channel this morning right after getting the news. we know the students are at the airport and scheduled to depart

within minutes. more now from nbc. >> reporter: a call for a million man protest brought out hundreds of thousands of egyptians to cairo's tahrir square. it was here where the revolution began and here where protesters changed their anger to the military rulers of the country. they are disappointed with how the military is running affairs and not giving up power to a civilian government. the military under pressure appointed a new prime minister. that did very little to satisfy the protesters behind me. they say it's not about who is appointed in the position, it's about the powers he is given. it looks like the political showdown will continue between the two sides. back to you. today, the white house

hardened its stance and urged the military to give way to civilian rule as soon as possible. black friday is complete with wild and crazy incidents. this year, things went more bizarre. police in los angeles are looking for a woman, pardon me, who used pepper spray to keep rival shoppers away from merchandise she wanted to buy. this happened last night. 20 people suffered injuries after being sprayed at a walmart store there. black friday shoppers at two walmart's were shot. in myrtle beach and san leandro, california. in both cases, the gunman got away. security forces used pepper spray on crowds at a walmart in north carolina.

a man fell into a display counter as people lined up for discounted cell phones. security people pepper sprayed the shoppers and kids and handcuffed a guy in the crowd there. some local shoppers say they have changed their shopping habits today to avoid the chaos. some retailers are changing the way they do things as well. darcy spencer went to several malls today. right now, she's at the mall in prince george's. >> reporter: we have heard art the stampedes, the robberies and now pepper spray. here at this mall, they wanted to avoid that. they opened stores at different times and different hours to avoid the surge of people coming in all at once. it seemed to make all the difference. at the mall at prince george's, some stores opened at midnight, some at 3:00 a.m., some at 4:00 and some at 5:00. it helped make it a less chaotic

there are new allegations against jerry sandusky, the former penn state football coach accused of sexually molesting young boys. a family member came forward claiming abuse. the attorney says the allegations are ridiculous and unfounded. there are new questions about the role pennsylvania governor corbett played in it. he was the governor during the grand jury investigation three years ago. several board members said he never discussed the investigation during board meetings. >> we had to be very careful not to tip where the investigation was going. >> sandusky has been charged with abusing eight boys. he is currently on bail awaiting trial.

a rescue tree was called for a delicate operation in a store in china. a 1-year-old boy was playing by himself as his mother shopped. he got his left hand stuck in a gap between a heavy glass door and a wall. by the time his mother realized what happened, his hand started to swell and turn blue. the toddler, scared to death, cried the whole time as his mom tried hard to keep him calm and reassure him. once he was free, he was taken to a hospital. doctors say the boy did not suffer any serious injuries. if a child can find something to get stuck in, you can count on him to do it. >> you are right about that. glad he's okay. coming up, new questions about whether the deadly crash in a home depot parking lot was really an accident. i'm julie carey at reagan

allowed. prosecutors are appealing the judge's decision. three students have been released from egypt. they should be back in the u.s. tomorrow. violence broke out during several black friday sales at walmarts across the country today. police had to remove several shoppers from walmart in the state of georgia after several scuffles there. a woman was shot in southern california. 20 people injured in los angeles after a woman pulled out pepper spray on all the shoppers fighting to buy the video games she wanted. walmart is investigating all the violent incidents. there are new and disturbing questions in the investigation of a deadly pedestrian accident in prince george's county. a car slammed into a group of people in a parking lot leaving one person dead.

the driver had a medical merge. one witness told erica gonzalez, this is no accident. >> reporter: it was yesterday afternoon. a quarter past 1:00 when tragedy struck in the parking lot of home depot on east west highway. this eyewitness spoke exclusively to nbc 4. he tells me, he and five other day laborers were standing on this grass when this town car drove by, lowered the window and yelled at him and the others. it circled around and came at him. he says hearing the rev of the engine makes him believe it was intentional. he managed to escape with a few nicks. the others were not as lucky. four were hospitalized and one died. the first man was flung here near this pile.

hate crime? >> police have not determined if the incident was the result of a medical emergency or something else. there's been a rash of cab robberies in the district. police are warning drivers and the general public. this month alone, there have been 11 robberies in the district including cases where the driver was carjacked. they usually hailed a cab near the metro station. if you see a taxi with emergency 911 beacon activated, call police immediately and don't approach the suspects considered armed and dangerous. several students from the united arab emirates want and explanation after they were taken off a flight and questioned for hours. they were headed from charlotte, north carolina to reagan international. they were allowed back on the plane. julie carey says the students

there's a guy in australia who took a risk that he regrets now. it was a brush fire all around his house. he decided to stay home while everybody else went away. the flames have been spreading for days in the town of margaret river on the western coast of the country. most people abandoned their homes. he decided he was going to stay. he put on noncome bustable clothes. as the fire got closer and closer. he had to jump into his neighbor's pool. he believes it was the scuba gear that saved his life. he was able to stay underwater until conditions imprufed. >> without a clear source of oxygen, there's no way of staying in a situation like that. as it turns out, it worked out beautifully.
