you're watching news 4 today. now that thanksgiving is behind us, it's holiday party season and if you're hosting a party, there's a good chance you'll need plenty of wine on hand. if you're a guest at that party, you can also bring a bottle of wine as a gift. but finding a nice wine doesn't have to cost you a fortune. and joining us now with some great wines for $20 or less is the wine guy anthony quinn. thanks for joining us this morning. >> nice to be here. >> we're in the thick of entertaining season and wine is what people bring or serve. what should people have on hand in case someone stops by or if you're planning a big gathering?
9:13 am
>> i always think you should have a number of thins in your fridge to begin with. i put right in front of you over to your left a number of bubblies. you need a red bubbly, a sparkling. you need -- you obviously need also a prosecco. those are three really, really huge categories today. people love them. they're not that expensive. they're fun, exciting. you need to have a bottle of chilled white wine. i like to think outside the box. i like to have things that are fun and unusual. i like people to know they have a range of possibilities. >> when you're looking at a $20 price point, people sometimes get judged on the wine they serve on the wine they bring. >> absolutely. what i want people to know is they really have a lot of possibilities and that those possibilities cannot only make
9:14 am
them look good, but the party and their hosts if they're going to a party. if they're hosting they can do the same for themselves. there's no reason why if you have ancestors from romania or from georgia that you can't have a georgiian wine. there's nothing wrong with it. go to your retailer. get to know a store retailer and talk to them. give them a little time and they'll be able to help you. >> what are some options for people to bring to a party? because obviously you want to bring something that could go with whatever's being served. >> i like to think outside the box. you mentioned pinot greej joe is a standard. that's for a white. another standard is malbec. i have brought here a bottle of the original malbec from france. if you're going to bring one, bring something a little
9:15 am
different. bring one from france. no one seems to know that anymore, but it's fun. >> what if you're serving a lot of people? what are some options if you're throwing a party this holiday season, do you want to have a large varieties of wines or just one or two to serve a large party? >> i always argue for the large variety. the problem is everyone spends all their money on all the food. they always cut back on the wine because it's always the last thing they do. i always say if you're going to have all these finger foods as well as some entrees served later, why don't you have three or four wines. make it fun. and interesting. so have a bubbly, have a white wine or two. not just another pinot. you could have for example, this lovely wine in the green bottle over there which is made in chile by an italian wine maker.
9:16 am
this is dry and flavorful and amazingly tasty and it's $11 a bottle. that's fun. >> you're talking variety. we have a large variety here. pick your two favorite. what's your favorite red and what's your favorite white here on the table. >> well, i'm a huge fan of italian wine. i spent a lot of time in europe. so here is a wine a chianti from the tuscan area of france. i've gotten to know the owner. she invited me and my daughter there. we had a lovely time there about a year and a half ago. we really enjoyed it. here is with a beautiful bottle, a beautiful label. it looks great. it looks expensive in my opinion. >> it's only $16.99. so that would be one of my favorites. another one is this one which i actually poured the glass. this is argentina white chardonnay. normally i would never pick a
9:17 am
chardonnay as my favorite because some of them can be pretty oaky and bland. this one as you can see a beautiful color. it happens to be organic. and the person who makes the wine was telling me that it's the first organic winery in all of mendosa. it was fun to meet him and try the wine. if i was going to take a bubbly, i would take a sparkling pinot noir. this supports breast cancer awareness. there's many i would pick. here's three that i would single out. >> all under $20. anthony quinn, the wine guy. thank you so much for joining us this morning. >> my pleasure. thank you for having me here. >> and let's check in with chuck bell with a look at the weather. gorgeous outside. >> a nice day. >> good day for football game as
