executive. he's accused of taking bribes from developers. he pleaded guilty. he's facing up to 14 years in prison. his wife, leslie once served on the council pleaded guilty. she could be sentenced to 18 months in prison when she's sentenced on friday. the nation's top aviation official has been caught drunk-driving. he was driving on the wrong side of the road in fairfax. derrick ward is live at the police station with the latest on this. derrick? >> reporter: he was released on his own. while this is sorted out, the deputy faa administer will be running things. meanwhile, federal officials and legal council are trying to figure out his employment status. a car headed the wrong way at

10:30 at night here on old lee highway. an officer spots him. >> a traffic stop that determined through a field sobriety test that he was intoxicated. >> he was the head of the federal aviation administration. babbitt previously worked on regulatory matters for the faa. he was an eastern airlines pilot before that. he's well respected in the aviation industry. he was alone in the car when he was stopped. he was heading the wrong way on a curvy section of lee highway. in a statement, he asked for a leave of absence, which was granted. no one answered our knock at his listed address.

a lot of questions to want about exactly what happened to a u.s. surveillance drone that is now in the hands of the iranians. the unmanned drone operates with stealth technology that is classified as top secret. a senior u.s. official told nbc news the iranian military recovered the drone. officials said the drone was

flying inside afghanistan along the iranian border several days ago when ground commanders lost control of it. it took a hard turn into iran and then crashed. the condition of the aircraft is not yet clear. world leaders met today in germany to talk about the situation in afghanistan notably absent was pakistan, a player in the region. they canceled in participation of one that killed 24 pakistani soldiers. karzai says his country will need $10 billion a year in outside help to keep the government running. right now, the u.s. is spending $140 billion a year in afghanistan. >> the united states is prepared to stand with the afghan people for the long haul to support this transition to sustainable stability and growth and we recognize that the afghans themselves, as the president has

things are all clear as far as the rain is concerned. showers in cambridge. it makes its way up to easton. that's about it. to the west, that's not it at all. this is a lot of rain toward cincinnati and portions of kentucky, memphis. three, four, five inches of rain. on the backside, it's snow. snow in st. louis. also, in toward western portions of texas. take a look at video out of texas. they saw snow and many areas woke up to snow. this is a similar type of snow that we could see in our area come thursday morning. you notice it's on the cars. most of it is melting on those roadways. i think that's the kind of snow we could expect here on wednesday night and into the day on thursday. let's talk about the upcoming system as it makes its way out of texas. here it is, right in here. they are seeing the snow. this is storm number one. here is storm number two. two is going to have the cold air. how cold? right now, it's 21 in omaha,

nebraska. 26 in wichita. that's pretty cold. denver, colorado, 7 degrees. the windchill, minus 6. expected to go down to minus 15. that's the windchill in denver. that cold air is coming our way. first, the mild air ahead of us. 66 in raleigh and 66 in atlanta. the mild air ahead. it brings rain and shower activity during the day tomorrow. not a wash out. you could see the rain for an hour or two at a time. mild with temperatures into the low 60s. here comes the front. mild air to the south. very cold air behind it. here is our second storm beginning to take shape. late wednesday, it is going to move in more rain on wednesday. most of this to the north and west of i-95 should end as snow in some areas. we'll talk about accumulation in a couple days. not a big deal. i don't think it will pose a lot of problems on the road. it could come in time for

a bold purse snatching in sterling, virginia was caught on tape. the crime happened november 30th in the parking lot of the dulles parking plaza. a pick-up truck bumped into her cart and reached over and grabbed the woman's purse before speeding off. there's a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in this case. the prime suspect in the disappearance of a mother from orlando, florida. her name is michelle parker. she vanished 18 days ago, the

same day she appeared on a taped episode of "people's court." she was fighting with her ex-fiance dale smith. her disappearance remains a mystery. a family in north carolina has a connection to smith, who is the prime suspect. smith was married to a woman named shannon who died from an overdose of a drug in 2001. >> he has linked our families through crisis. our hearts go out to michelle's family. with shannon, we knew where she was. she was brain dead, on life support, but she was in a hospital bed and we could go to her. i can't imagine what they are going through. >> smith was not there the night that his then wife died. he was in fact, in jail at the time serving time for domestic violence. now, ten years after the death

wrong way on old lee highway. a woman is being remembered as a hard working mother and best friend. she was found stabbed to death inside her home. pat collins spoke to the victim's daughter who made the discovery. >> when friends weren't aaround and i felt alone, i was never alone. i always had my mom. >> reporter: they were very close. they called each other every day at least once. last saturday, adele called her mother's home on 23rd place northeast and there was no answer. she called again. nothing. she got worried. she got frightened. she went to that house. inside, she found her mother murdered. >> i'm at a loss for words. it's horrific. it's horrible. that doesn't give it justice. it was such a -- that's not how

anyone should have to remember their mother. >> reporter: police sources say there was no sign of forced entry. it's likely elaine coleman was killed by someone she knew. her body found in her bedroom. she had been stabbed repeatedly. savagely. elaine coleman was just 47 years old. for many years, she lived in this house in the kingman park section of northeast. she worked hard as a cashier so her daughter could graduate from penn state with a communications degree. >> my mom, she was happy in life, you know. she just deserved the happiness she worked so hard for. it's painful. we were joined at the hip. when i lost my mom, i lost a part of me. i don't know how to function. we talk every single morning. i wake up and wait for that

phone call or text message and it doesn't come. it's painful. >> reporter: making a plea tonight, she says she wants the killer to come forward. she says she wants justice for her mom. i'm pat collins, news 4 washington. $25,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in this case. jewelers in the so-called robo call trial started deliberating the case. they have to decide if bob ehrlich is guilty. suppressing african-american voter turnout with a robo call to help his chances. the charges carry five year prison sentences. deliberations ended for the day and will resume tomorrow. ken cuccinelli is talking publicly for the first time

the sus u.s. postal service has been in trouble for awhile. there's a potential bankruptcy on the able. the usps is scaling back. the cuts could mean the end to guaranteed overnight delivery. we have the report. >> reporter: most americans will see changes in the way the mail is handled when mailing first class. >> we are going to modify the standard. mail that is dropped in a blue

collection box will no longer receive overnight service standard. such a move could hurt businesses that promise next day delivery. the postal service says eliminating the overnight guarantee will trim $2 billion from operating costs. >> we can't sit back and wait for five, six or ten years before we make the changes. >> reporter: changes that include closing half of the mail processing centers. eliminating 28,000 jobs and slowing not only first class delivery, but periodicals and magazines that may take up to nine days to deliver all because more americans are turning to the internet. >> they are choosing electronic bill payment and electronic communication. >> reporter: the postal service scoffs at the suggestion this is the beginning of an end. >> a person paying the a bill in the mail, it's going away.
