a carjacking at a gas station ends when police shoot the suspect. good evening, everyone. i'm aaron gilchrist. this news still unfolding. darcy spencer joins us live with the latest. >> reporter: aaron, let me set the scene where we are right now. we're in prince george's county. this is rigs road. you see the intersection with metsorat road. there is a vehicle obviously involved in a crash. we're told that vehicle is belonging to a suspect who was shot and wounded here on the scene by a tacoma park police officer.

apparently that suspect was involved in an attempted carjacking at a sunoco gas station. we have video of that. that happened earlier this afternoon in the 6900 block of new hampshire avenue in tacoma park. we're told that there was someone there who attempted to car jack a person, who had a porsche there at the gas station. and a witness told us that he saw the whole thing. let's listen to what that witness had to say. what happened? >> i saw pretty much everything. >> reporter: it was a stabbing? >> it was an attempted carjacking. the guy was actually stand at the pump. >> reporter: awe you saw it? >> the whole thing. >> reporter: was it the person in the porsche who got car jacked? >> yes. >> reporter: and was he stabbed? >> yes. >> reporter: so that was a witness to the actual attempted carjacking that happened at the sunoco gas station in the 6900 block of new hampshire avenue. from what we've been able to piece together from witnesses, and from other sources, it was

from that carjacking scene that police apparently chased after that suspect in a vehicle, ended up here at this scene in prince george's county about two miles away from the sunoco gas station. as you can see behind me, there is a vehicle here that's obviously been involved in a crash. and we're told that the suspect, that police chased here to this area, was shot and wounded. was taken to the hospital. at this point, we don't know what the condition of that suspect is. and if there are any other additional people involved. we're waiting for comment from tacoma park police to find out additional details on this incident. darcy spencer reporting live from prince george's county. >> we'll check back with you again. fallout after another sports figure is accused of sexually abusing young boys. the amateur after tthletic unit the longtime president and ceo bobby dodd will no longer head

the organization. two people said he molested them in the '80s when they was their coach. >> 3:00 in the morning, i was dead asleep, and i don't remember anything but waking up and he has his -- he's trying to put his hand in my boxer shorts. and i jumped up straight out of the bed. and he's not there but he's laying on the floor next to me down by the bed. you know, of course, i was freaked out. >> the players say the abuse happened when they were between the ages of 12 and 16. memphis police and the aau have both opened investigations. today is the 112th annual army/navy game. and somebody decided to play a flag prank at the memorial in northwest. someone took down the navy flag and put up an army flag today. it sounds like the people who are running the memorial are taking it all in stride. in a tweet they road, keller roar. the army mule flag flies over the navy memorial. we'll have highlights from the game coming up in sports.

a holiday tradition at arlington national cemetery this morning. thousands of volunteers placed more than 100,000 wreaths on the grave sites there. a christmas wreath company in maine started that tradition 20 years ago. it's grown into an organization called wreaths across america. they do this at cemeteries across the country. the controversy continues in loudon county over questionable holiday decorations outside the courthouse. an atheist group is putting up more displays that some call an attack on christmas. the holiday season arrived in leesburg, virginia, today as town residents and visitors crowded downtown to usher in the christmas season. marching bands, floats and mesmerized children were plentiful. >> it's just a small town feeling. it's just a happy parade. >> i love it. i come out here every year. the kids just get a blast out of it. >> as the parade maerchs on, controversy swells at the loudon county courthouse.

a group of atheyists putting up what they call the holiday card to the community they say not intending to be controversial. >> we've never asked anybody to alter their christmas plans. this is strictly about the first amendment, separation of church and state. >> the tree went up featuring ornaments they say are intended to be festive without being religious. the hubbub started earlier this week with a santa put on a cross put up by a christian teenager lamenting the idea of chris mats. >> clearly some people from the christian community do not respect the free speech rights of others. >> i think these folks are trying to hol ruin the holiday spirit in the name of the first amendment. and disrespectful of the community. >> the county is allowing a handful of displays to go up at the courthouse this month. it's drawn a mixed response.

>> it's sad in my heart. i don't like my children to see that. it's kind of hurtful. >> i believe there needs to be a little bit more tolerance in what -- in people expressing themselves. but at the same time, there needs to be consideration not trying to co-opt other's holidays. >> the board of supervisors voted down a proposal to ban all displays on the courthouse lawn. 17 elementary students paired up with police officers for a day of shopping. this took place at the target in westfield wheaton shopping center. each child was given a $100 gift card to spend on christmas gifts either for themselves or family member. but the event is about more than just presents. >> the officers are there to provide some guidance and talk to the child. and also at the same time to work on the relationship that the child has with the law enforcement, and see law enforcement hopefully in a new light, and to know that law enforcement officers are just like anyone that they see every

d.c. police are looking for a shooter who opened fire in the middle of a gas station, killing a young man and injuring a teenaged girl. this happened about 4:00 a.m. in the 4500 block of bening road northeast. erica gonzalez has more on the investigation and reaction from the neighbors. >> reporter: just before 4:00 this morning, police say they responded to shots fired near the bening road metro station. according to police, a verbal dispute of sorts set off the suspect. >> it almost sounds like it was involving alcohol and just people running their mouth. >> reporter: police say the man then shot two people riding in their car. a 16-year-old girl and a 24-year-old by the name of steven way. they say the two victims were hit with multiple gunshots, and the suspect who remains at large showed little respect for the public safety, in a potentially

combustible arena. >> anyone that is willing to pull out a gun over an exchange of some words i don't think is really concerned with the public safety or well-being, whether it's at a gas station or anywhere else. >> reporter: the teen was transported to a nearby hospital. but police say she's going to make it. way, on the other hand, died. police would not discuss their relationships and say the victims had no prior relationship to the suspect. nearby residents say gunshots are all too common for the area. does it make you not want to live here anymore? do you want to move? >> you can't move if you don't have nothing. you've got to deal with the surrounding, the lifestyle that you choose to live with. and you live by the rules here, like something's going to happen. >> reporter: police say they're looking for a suspect last seen driving a silver vehicle. in northeast d.c., erica gonzalez, news4. police are following up on leads and say the incident does not appear to be drug or gang related. an american teenager

kidnapped in the philippines has apparently been released. he had been held in jungle captivity for five months. the boy's filipino-american mother was freed two months ago. the three were vacationing with relatives when they were snatched on july 12th. still to come tonight, mother nature puts on a show. more on this pretty remarkable lunar eclipse. chuck's back to tell us how the

tens of thousands of russians took to the streets today to protest last week's elections there. they allege voter fraud and are demanding an end to prime minister vladimir putin's rule. it took place in more than 50 cities across russia with heavy police presence in moscow. putin was president from 2000 to 2008, and tries to seek a third presidential term. back here at home, in decision 2012, gop presidential hopefuls are in des moines, iowa, tonight for another debate. many experts believe newt gingrich will face attacks from the other candidates as they try to shake up the race just 24 days before the iowa caucus. brian moore reports. >> reporter: with 20 more days before the iowa caucuses, newt gingrich is surging. mitt romney is playing catch-up. the other candidates are struggling to stay on their feet. >> we need a leader who understands who our friends are.

eclipse. back here in washington, ta-da! look at that. a full moon is up in our skies here in washington. no eclipse in sight for us. and a clear sky out there tonight. light breezes and dry air in place means it is going to be a cold night out there. you're definitely going to need to bundle up as you make your plans to get outside for this evening. clear skies, another plane headed out from reagan national airport headed up the river. 39 degrees now at national. with dew points in the mid teens. this is a big part of our overnight low forecast. temperatures will get close to the dew points out west of town. there will be spots out towards the blue ridge, there will be spots down in the upper teens by morning time tomorrow. in the city, and alongside the bay, probably mostly in the upper 20s to near 30. current temperatures 44 in annapolis with 37 in reston, 37 degrees in leesburg. even up in beautiful northern maryland now, 32 hagerstown. it's going to be cold in hagerstown by morning time. enjoy your saturday evening,

temperatures in the 30s. mid to upper 30s by 7:00 p.m. low to mid-30s by 11:00. some spots below freezing by 11:00. nearest rain drops or snowflakes are so far away, across northern parts of pennsylvania. for us, clearing skies through the overnight hours. clear sky, light breeze out there. and the bone dry air in place, temperatures are really going to fall off very, very quickly. high pressure will continue to be in charge of our weather through the remainder of the weekend and early next week as well. more sunshine, winter sunshine coming our way for tomorrow. another cold start. and another pretty chilly afternoon to be outside. as that area of high pressure moves off the eastern seaboard, we get a little bit more of a south breeze and that will warm temperatures up to an average by monday and tuesday. overnight, clear skies, light winds and very cold. upper teens to near 20 out west. near 30 in the city. for tomorrow, a beautiful looking day, but still cold. high temperatures only in the upper 30so low and mid-40s

ended a while ago. >> it was a close game. it was exciting, down to the wire. the 112th annual army/navy game went down this afternoon. they've been bitter rivals on the gridiron at least since 1899. pride flies high as old glory. but for the young men involved, today is just an innocent game. what lies ahead is a more serious battle, one where the men of army and navy will be on the same team as u.s. soldiers defending our country. it was a message reiterated by president barack obama who became the first u.s. president to attend a game at fedex field. we pick up the game in the second quarter. navy up 7-0 on third and eight. they go to alexander in from ten yards out for the touchdown. midshipman take a 14-0 lead. in the third quarter, we're now tied at 14. this was a great game. on second and goal, chris proctor, the qb keeps it and spins it for the touchdown. take a look again.

he fakes the handoff, and look at the quarterback, right at the goalline. the old spin-o-rama. 21-14 navy. fourth quarter, navy up 24-21. the 44-yard field goal. he gets it in just through the uprights. the midshipman up 27-21. under five minutes to play. army goes for it on fourth and seven. and trent is sacked by matt warrick. he makes the biggest play of the game. navy defeats army for the tenth straight time. the midshipmen win 27-21 the final. a big day in virginia high school football. state title day. right now in the division 6 final it is being played at uva, centerville losing to oscar smith 34-15 in the fourth

quarter. in today's earlier game, south county looking for its first state title playing powerhouse feefis. the tree-time defending virginia state champ. south county on an 11-game winning streak. in the first quarter, feevis up 3-0. anderson going up top for the 5 6'5" ramone deloech. in the third quarter, south county down 10-3. andrew with the pickup. four plays later, second and goal, peter punches it in from two yards out. we're tied at 10. but feevis strikes right back. he got him. 50 yards for the touchdown. beautiful pass. proves to be the game winner. they beat south county 20-10.

their fourth straight title. congratulations to south county. what an amazing season for those kids as well. the nba is up and running. free agency began yesterday. the wizards took advantage of some of the moves by acquiring big man ronny turiof from the knicks. it also involved the dallas mavericks. the wizards will get two future second-round draft picks, plus cash. they had to take onturiof's salary in exchange. let's go to college hardwood. john thompson iii. hosting howard. first half, already up 13-0. nate looks, finds freshman otto porter. you can count that. in the second half, though, buyson fighting back. down 4. fraser pulls up to the foul line. we have got a two-point game. down by four, the bison.

one of the 20 turnovers. porter finishes with the flush. hoya's up 6. under three to play, georgia up 9. hoya's on the break. he jams it home. porter finishes with a team high 13 points. georgetown wins its six in a row with the hoyas down the bison 62-48. let's go to the nhl, while hats showered on the ice at the verizon center last night, capitals defenseman dennis wideman, he knew he didn't really deserve it. the league confirmed that feeling by crediting the caps' fourth and final goal of the night to brooks light. it was a big night regardless for dennis wideman. useless celebration. capitals taking on the maple leafs. deflects to wideman who scores. caps up 1-0. in the second period, caps on another power play. this is beautiful. wideman just rips it into the back of the net.
