three people. the u.s. geological survey measured it at 6.5. it caused panic in mexico city, 100 miles southwest of the especially center. one man was killed when a roof collapsed. another died in a small town. a third victim was a driver hit by rocks that fell on his vehicle. investigators are trying to figure out -- i'm sorry. >> okay. i'll take it from there, chris. thanks. investigators are trying to figure out what caused a two-car crash in prince george's county involving four children. two cars collided on seat pleasant avenue near the intersection of joplin street last night. when rescuers got there six people were trapped in their cars, including the four children. paramedics took a woman to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and three children had nonlife-threatening injuries. a carjacking and pursuit led officers to shoot a man, killing him. investigators say the incident

started on new hampshire avenue and ended in adelphi. police say a 19-year-old man tried to steal a porsche from the sunoco station on new hampshire avenue. the victim fought back, stabbing the 19-year-old with a knife. after that police say the suspect jumped in a red ford focus, rammed the porsche and then took off. police fold him two files to adelphi where he crashed. he then tried to attack a female officer who tried to takes him. >> the suspect gained control and was on top of the officer, assaults the officer when a second officer pulled up, demanded the suspect stop and to defend the life of the officer that was in danger, he then utilized deadly force, shooting multiple times. well, the takoma park police chief said his officers followed protocol in the pursuit and in the shooting. >> all right. right now thousands of runners, they're taking over the national mall. the short gun just went off at the jingle all the way 8k.

runners are layered up for this race. melissa is live at the national mall. good morning, melissa. i know this race will impact traffic. >> reporter: it is going to be impacting traffic for sure. but i've got to tell you, so much fun out here this morning. 5,500 people showed up for the race. you can see some of them still waiting to take off here behind me this morning, jumping up and down, just trying anything to stay warm. lots and lots of energy. we have folks dancing, some folks drinking hot chocolate. it is the seventh annual race benefiting habitat for humanity. folks are dressed up as santa, their elves, and even two women as a christmas tree. participants tell me once they get going they hardly feel cold at all. >> i've done runs that are a little bit colder. so maybe i'm just cold up in the

from paris to panama overnight where he will be punished once again for crimes he committed during his reign. noriega has spent more than 20 years in custody here in the u.s. and in france for drug trafficking and money laundering. panama also convicted him once he was being held abroad. he can soon be free, though, because of a law that allows prisoners over the age of 70 to serve their time under house arrest. noriega is 77. the heated in-state rivalry between xavier and cincinnati turned ugly as a blowout turned into a huge brawl. xavier was winning big with 10 seconds left in the game when two players started jawing at each other. kenny freeze took the worst of it with a big cut on his face. and bruised ribs. after the game, both teams talked about the ugly incident.

tech for a police officer killed in a shooting last week. investigators say 22-year-old ashley shot deriek crouse on the blacksburg campus thursday and then killed himself. he is survived by five children and stepchildren. a viewing will be held today in christiansburg, virginia, followed by a funeral tomorrow at virginia tech. well, if you drive in northern virginia you'll soon have a better idea just how long your commute is going to take. starting tomorrow, seven new electronic signs will display travel times on i-95. three signs on the northbound side will give you times from route 234 to the beltway. route 123 to the beltway. from the fairfax county to the d.c. line. four signs southbound will show signs from the pentagon to the beltway, beltway to route 123, fairfax county parkway to 234. and larton to fredericksburg. the goal is to help drivers decide whether to bail out and find an alternate route when major delays or other problems

are ahead. >> iran says it has a sophisticated u.s. drone and refuses to return it. iranian television broadcast military officials inspecting unmanned aircraft called rq170. a senior commander of iran's elite revolutionary guard said the u.s. violated iran's airspace. the official warned the bigger response, because of the drone, and he says it was a hostile act. that was the first evidence that tehran captured the unmanned aircraft. an american teen kidnapped for five months in the philippines will be reunited with his family soon. that from the u.s. ambassador in the philippines. philippine officials released pictures of 14-year-old kevin lunsman. muslim militants held him in a jungle for five months. the boy told his captors he was going to take a bath in a stream and instead he ran for help by following the river downstream. his captors initially said they freed the boy. authorities say he was flown to manila and turned over to u.s. officials.

for another cold start tomorrow morning. tomorrow afternoon, a little hint of a warming trend comes back our way. it should be 5 or 6 degrees warmer tomorrow than this afternoon. a chance for rain drops should stay well to our south. our next chance comes in for thursday. so for your sunday arch, mostly sunny. on the cold side. 5 miles per hour. highs today, upper 30s in the high spots. low and mid-40s around town. there you go. the extended forecast coming up seven days in a row. not complete sunshine but mostly dry here for the upcoming week. 43 today. 47 tomorrow. tuesday, back to near 50. wednesday, clouds come back into the picture wednesday. i think rain drops hold off until way late wednesday night or more likely thursday and friday. and this does not look like a big rain event coming. this looks like light rain drops as opposed to the three-incher we had last wednesday.
