fulfill some customers orders. there's an overwhelming demand for some items. what is this all about and why can't they fill the orders? >> reporter: this is remarkable. it's not only about filling orders, they are now telling customers some who ordered something right after thanksgiving that now they are not going to be able to fulfill their order at all thchlt is a nightmare for the largest specialty electronics retailer in the u.s. one guy saying he ordered a toshiba tv after thanksgiving and found out it was just out of stock. best buy is not telling anyone what exactly is out of stock but it's speculated it's all the popular items like ipads, ps 3s and laptops. they are not saying how many

today, president obama urged americans to use social media to let house republicans now how badly they need an extension to the payroll tax cut. so far, house republican leaders will not agree to a short-term fix. jennifer johnson reports. >> reporter: president obama was joined at the white house by frustrated american workers. among the 2,000 an hour e-mailing and tweeting political leader s leaders to get the payroll tax cut extended. the senate passed a two-month extension. house republicans are not budging. >> this is an issue where an overwhelming number of people in both parties agree. does this place become so dysfunctional even when people agree we can't do it? >> reporter: the latest republican-on-republican is coming from mitch mcconnell urging the house to accept the plan. the house gop wants to negotiate

republican presidential candidate newt gingrich campaigned in virginia today. the former speaker of the house was in arlington tonight and richmond this morning for a meeting with supporters. iowa and new hampshire to deliver the 10, 000 voters to qualify for virginia's primary. today he blasted president obama saying the president has a european radical attitude toward class warfare. new numbers released show d.c. mayor vincent gray with low approval ratings. gray has a 34% rating. the poll found he would lose re-election if he faced former mayor anthony or williams. the d.c. keown till with a 30% approval rating. it's a big drop from march when it was 54%. coming up, tom sherwood asks the mayor about the poll results.

can't get a break out there. i'm sure winter will deliver a little cold air before all is said and done. it has been mild. december, for the month, washington is four degrees warmer than average. the mild weather is going to continue at least through the next 12 hours or so. a reality check coming our way for the weekend. nothing that cold. temperatures will finally get down to closer to all things, average for december. right now, temperatures are well above average. the average high in washington is 44-45 degrees. 58 is definitely in the plus territory. 59 down the road in fredericksburg. 58 in st. mary's county. it's going to be dry here for a couple hours. the leading edge of the rain drops, three or four hours away. four to five hours if you live in washington and points north. three to five hours from now, the first rain drops rolling in.

that's not the only rain you have to worry about. a big line of heavy rain across georgia and tennessee is lifting our way. we could see as much as an inch of rain. it's snow iing in oklahoma, kansas, western missouri and snowing like crazy in the rockies and parts of new mexico. travel weather, lots of people getting out. generally quiet weather across much of the united states. a little rain down the gulf coast. syracuse, new york hasn't had two inches of snow, yet, for the entire winter. normally, they would have had 30 inches by now. they are missing it. our good night wake-up forecast, mild. rainshowers rolling in. stormy overnight tonight with rumbles of thunder are a possibility. tomorrow, morning clouds giving way to afternoon clearing. breezy, cooler and lower humidity for tomorrow. saturday, the redskins and the vikings kicking it off at 1:00
