perry failed to make the presidential primary ballot. he fell short of the 10,000 signatures of registered voters. his campaign says it will review the facts. volunteers at virginia g.o.p. headquarters in richmond are assessing the signatures submitted by newt gingrich. virginia's primary is on march 6th which is supertuesday. in cuba, 2900 prisoners have been granted am necessary city but a man from maryland is not one of them. he is held on spying charges. he was arrested in 2009 working as a government contractor. cuba accused him of spy bug he said he was there to help the jewish community. good evening on this friday night. >> unless you are in line for a new pair of air jordan sneakers things are going smoothly. this is a look at i-95 in

it is just the way it worked out this year. >> reporter: buoy town center was busy. >> it has been an experience out here really, the crowds but it's been nice. >> reporter: there was not an empty parking space to be found even in the remote lots but costumes say there were empty spaces on store shelves. retailers expected people to do less buying and the opposite occurred. >> everything is gone. yes. yes. everything is gone. >> reporter: this macy's store opened 24 hours until christmas eve. back to you. >> thank you, jackie. nike says is it concerned by the chaos surrounding the launch of air jordan sneakers and crowd safety has to be the number one priority. from fights to crowds to near riots the shoes created chaos.

can for forced someone to jump out of a second story window tonight. it started at 9:00 and started -- after starting in a trash can the flames quickly spread down a hall. the person who jumped was taken to the hospital with broken bones. five others were treated for smoke inhalation. a suspected pipe bomb forced the evacuation of a neighborhood in virginia this evening. on manning square an in a townhouse community a bomb squad took it somewhere to be destroyed. the investigation continues. police and a stunned neighborhood are pleading for information about the beating of a 70-year-old woman that happened inside her home in capital heights last night. the intruder broke through a window. the victim was left unconscious on the floor with a broken nose and eye socket. she called 911 after crawling to the phone. it's not yet clear what was

taken from her house. reprehensible is the word that d.c. schools chancellor is using to describe a brawl involving cardoza high school's basketball team. this video was taken on wednesday night at a basketball game. witnesses say players and fans ran on to the court exchanging punches. today henderson wondered why the adults department step in to stop this brawl. >> it is disappointing when to watch children engage in that level of violence. >> children are going to fight, right? sometimes things jump off. but our inability to stop that quickly was very disturbing. >> both teams are expected to be punished after investigations by school officials. a private plane had to make an emergency landing near myrtle beach, south carolina. the plane had a difficult path

off the beach. a massachusetts woman says she had cupcakes taken from her by airport security as she tried to board a flight this week coming home from vegas. it was a gift from a friend packaged in a jar. the tsa agent said it was the frosting that made him suspicious because it was a gel-like substance that conformed to a container's shape. >> i feel there was no doubt in his mind this was a cupcake but he was being very technical about things. obviously he knew it was not a terrorist threat. >> the tsa is reviewing the case. but the rule allows for cakes, pies and cupcakes to go through check points unharmed. a scare for the royal family. prince philip had emergency heart surgery. he was taken to the hospital after suffering chest points. he is 90 years old and had a

stent implanted to open a blocked artery. is it not clear if he had a heart attack. he will be in the hospital for a brief recovery. the french government announced will the pay for the removal of 30,000 breast implants. the country determined that the p.i.p. implants using industrial silicone are more prone to rupture but they did not find a link between the implants and nine cases of cancer. the ceo of the company is on interpol's most-wanted list. he is wanted for crimes involving life and health. still ahead tonight, some of the country's biggest grocery store pull baby formula off store shelves. a long trip home from afghanistan is made sweeter by what is waiting in the hangar. if

more national chains are joining wal-mart in pulling a possibly tainted batch of faeb formula off store shelves. it is labeled n for newborns in a light blue container. a ten-day-old baby died from an infection that is found in dried milk and formula. walgreens, safeway and supervalue also pulled the formula. 200 members of the d.c. air national guard returned home today. members of the 113th wing were reunited at andrews air force base with their loved ones. all they wanted for the holiday

be colder and the other half saying wait a second on the cold air. the cold air may wait two weeks to get here. today's high was 53 around 11:00 this morning. the afternoon high was 52 degrees. nine of the last 11 days have been at or above 50. that is amazing for month of december and as of right now we would be the seventh warmest december ever. but we will get cooler. 45 right now under the partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. winds out of the north at 6 miles per hour. the cloud cover will help to keep the temperatures up. but with the wind we will cool down a bit. 39 in gaithersburg. 43 in lees burg. 38 in la plata and 40 in honeytown. hello to my family and friends down there. some 4 doppler radar showing not much in our area. interesting things up here.

if this is hit the ground it could be a flurry in the panhandle of west virginia. that frontal boundary will cool us down tomorrow. look at the nation. denver all clear. down in florida just a few showers. there are no big storms anywhere. this is the biggest storm that could produce snow in new mexico but it's i doubt any of you are going to new mexico tomorrow. maybe you are. satellite and radar showing clouds moving in. we will continue to see the clouds through the day tomorrow. future weather showing that wind switching around during the day tomorrow out of the north. a cool day but on sunday christmas the wind shifts to give us warmer air. the temperatures around 50 degrees and a nice afternoon. tomorrow morning, partly cloudy, a school start, 26 to 36 degrees. we will see temperatures on the warm side at least above average. 50 on sunday on christmas.

let the holiday begin. president obama is enjoying the weather in hawaii. air force one landed a few minutes ago. the president joins the first family for holiday vacation. several families will have a brighter christmas thanks to the work of an nfl player phil internship taylor. his focus was on low-income families. he treated 100 people to a holiday party at richard wright charter public school in northeast. the families got toys and gifts.
