i'm pat lawson muse. >> i'm wendy rieger in for jim handly. we are going start with a developing story about a half hour ago. verizon wireless changed their plan. they were going to charge 24 hours after announcing it. >> the $2 convenience fee. they were going to charge two bucks every month to pay bills on the website or by phone. a verizon spokesperson said they listened to customers and decided to ditch the fee. a hollywood couple, yet another one getting a divorce. russell brand is divorcing katy perry. he said sadly, wing our marriage. i'll always adore her and we will remain friends. se filed divorce. they married in india in october of last year. they spent christmas apart and neither one was wearing a wedding ring.

now to our outstanding weather as we are finishing up 2011. >> what a way to end a year and start another. storm 4 meteorologist, doug kammerer is here. >> we have sunshine across the area. it is simply gorgeous this friday afternoon. 53 degrees is the current temperature. dew point is 33 with a wind out of the southeast. take a look at the numbers around our region. 59 in culpeper and fredericksburg. 55 in la playda. everybody seeing nice, mild, if not warm air across the area. the temperature 10 degrees above average. don't worry about rain across the region today. overnight, we could see a storm system that moves through here. could be a shower or two. i'm not counting on too many. i'm counting on the mild temperatures continued. temperatures in the low 40s tomorrow.

2012 in illinois. he'll be in chicago to attend two fund raising functions for his campaign. the fund-raisers will take place at the homes of fred ikener and stuart taylor. so far, the president raised more than $150 million for his campaign. the first family took time out from their hawaii vacation to honor those killed in pearl harbor. it was 1941. it claimed the lives of nearly 2400 american service members and launched the u.s. into world war ii. after a moment of silence, the president and first lady dropped flower pedals into the water below. flames are out on a russian nuclear submarine that caught fire yesterday. crews worked through the night to get the fire under control. we have the latest on what was a

very tense 24 hours. >> reporter: russian officials are confirming that after a full day and night ablaze, a massive fire on a nuclear powered submarine that normally carries nuclear missiles has been extinguished. it's part of russia's northern fleet was dry docked when wood and scaffolding caught fire on thursday and ignited the rubber coating that is used to make submarines more stealth like. firefighters worked around the clock to cool down the sub and douse the flames which at times shot into the sky. they insist there was no radiation leak. it's been verified by a number of neighboring countries. at least seven crewmen were hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning and they stayed inside the sub.

unclear if they were awarded to do so or trapped inside. this kind of accident brings bad memories back to russians. recall in august of 2000, the nuclear powered sank to the bottom of the sea killing all on board after a torpedo fuel leak. it appears this fire was extinguished without loss of life and russian officials are saying those nuclear missiles were not on bode. reporting from london, back to you. for the past two days, firefighters in los angeles have been scrambling to put out a dozen arson fires in hollywood. someone is torching parked cars. the flames spread to nearby homes or apartment buildings. the fires caused power outages. the fires continue.

d.c. councilmember jack evans wants the mood lounge to close down after a double stabbing occurred after 1:00 this morning on ninth street in northwest. evans says he's been in contact with police. he was working to get the club closed through new year's eve. we have more on this investigation. >> reporter: investigators taking photos, washing away spots of blood, blocking off the sidewalk friday morning so crime lab technicians could gather evidence in the daylight. howevers before, at 1:00 a.m., two men were walking outside the lounge when they are approached and stabbed. nothing was taken from the victims. one was cut in the stomach, the other in the lower back. they were taken to the hospital by a friend. the victims are expected to recover. neighbors complained of noise, loitering and recent fights

simply gorgeous. 53 degrees. winds out of the southeast at eight miles per hour, a spectacular afternoon and beautiful evening, too. i think temperatures are going to stay above the 40 degree mark for many of us. it's not cold at all. 59 in fredericksburg. 48 closer to the chesapeake bay. 49 in annapolis. nothing on the doppler radar in our area. there is a potent storm making its way our way. that storm toward chicago. you can see thunderstorm activity ahead of the storm. look at the spin in the atmosphere. this will move through. it will provide a frontal boundary but there's no cold air behind it. we are going to stay mild and bump our temperatures up tomorrow. nice and mild ahead of this storm. the storm moves through. so does the frontal boundary. warm tomorrow. i expect temperatures to be ten to 15 degrees above average tomorrow. it will stay to the west of the

mountains. most of it will fall as rain. if you are a skier and hoping for snow the next couple of days, you are waiting for this baby here. it's going to bring another round of cooler air. the coldest air of the season. mild ahead of it sunday afternoon. around 4:00, the frontal boundary coming through. after that, a very cold and windy conditions move on in here. you are going to notice a huge change from around noon on sunday until 8:00 on sunday night. that change is going to come very rapidly. i'm talking 30-mile-an-hour winds coming through. upwards of 40 miles per hour as we make our way into monday and tuesday. windchills next week could be in the teens all day long for some locations. that's the cold air moving in. a few clouds this evening, nice and mild. a great evening. 47 to 52 degrees. tomorrow morning, we'll see clouds, maybe a shower as the front moves through.

>> he was shot four times. he is expected to make a full recovery. the suspects are being held without bond pending trial. a hiker and his dog were rescued in california after clinging to the side of a cliff for 90 minutes. he said he was running with his dog when p it ran down an embankment. they both ended up sliding 100 feet down the hillside. 35 firefighters responded putting solis in a harness and bringing him to safety. they also saved the dog. >> i run every day with my dad and my dogs. this is the first time something like that happened. >> solis and the dog don't have any injuries. this is a nice story to share on the new year. e news host is speaking out about her decision to undergo a

dozens of baby penguins in china are taking a big step. they are learning to live on their own. they were born a month ago. they are nearly as big as their parents. they are not as strong as an adult penguin and their feather coat is not cold resistant. they have to lean on their parents or they have to lie down on some warm cobblestones. these young penguins were among

27 who survived among 40 eggs hatched at a marine park there. imagine discovering somebody sleeping in a burning car. that's exactly what you are seeing here. a police car camera captured this video in grand rapids, michigan. an officer walked up to the burning car, escorting him out of the car. the car caught fire because he fell asleep with his foot on the gas pedal. he was arrested after being saves for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. a lucky guy.
