this case. he described it as a gun battle. there were casings all over the street. ♪ i love you jesus >> at shilo baptist church in northwest d.c. a candlelight vigil held in remembrance of victims. shot four times during the virginia tech massacre in 2007. >> in that place four years into college on a monday morning in french class i was put in the most dangerous situation of my entire life and nearly killed. >> she lost her 16-year-old daughter in a shooting on south capital street that left several people dead nearly two years ago. >> that was the only child that i had. and i mourn the loss of my only child. i mourn the loss of generations i will never know. >> the vigil was held one year after a gunman shot and critically wounded congresswoman gabrielle giffords. the alleged shooter remains in custody. >> he hasn't stood trial.

you know why? because he's mentally unfit to stand trial. but he wasn't mentally unfit to go and buy whatever weapon he wanted. >> many who spoke supported gun control based on personal experiences. d.c. mayor vincent gray says when he was a kid a gun went off while his brother was cleaning it. their parents were not at home. >> the gun had gone off went right through the furniture where i was standing and probably would have gotten me. >> the event called too many victims was sponsored by the brady campaign. >> i can tell you that the police department took 2,000 guns off the street in washington, d.c. last year. we still lost 108 people to homicide in this city. >> going back to the shooting on foot street in northwest washington involving the pair of nike tennis shoes. police have identified the victim as 19-year-old david robinson. at this point, no arrests have been made.

reporting live from northwest, darcy spencer, news 4. aaron, back to you. >> darcy, thank you. >> lot of questions to night after some one shot a man as he tried to break into an apartment in prince george's county. before 5:00 a.m. at marlow heights apartments. the suspect had a gun and was trying to break through a back door when somebody opened fire. it's not clear whether the shot came from inside or outside the apartment. the suspect was taken to the hospital. police are not preleasing his condition. we turn to the weather now. take a live look outside. a pretty nice weekend for us. the question now, will it last. meteorologist chuck bell? >> you better have enjoyed yesterday and today. no, really mild weather is not going to stick around for much longer if any longer at all. clear skies out here for this evening. have allowed temperatures to cool off very, very quickly. and there is a little bit of moisture coming our way as well. this will play an important part in our monday forecast.

here its a look at live doppler. you can see a few lonesome snowflakes. they're moving eastbound. all part of just a tiny little built of moisture out to our north and west. but as temperatures continue to cool and the clouds continue to build, i think we will be down close to the freezing mark early tomorrow morning and, spots out west, the blue ridge could get just a little bit in the way of snowfall. and some snowflakes might actually be able to make it into the washington area tomorrow afternoon. not expecting any accumulations, no school cancellations, or delays nothing like that. but can't rule out the occasional snowflake or two. late tomorrow afternoon. especially in the hyperterrain north and west of town. there is your back to workday planner. temperatures near freezing. first thing in the morning. plenty of clouds around tomorrow. then a little bit of light rain. most likely especially south of washington. some of the rain drops may mix in with a snowflake or two during the day tomorrow. again, temperatures will be far enough above freezing at the surface where i'm not expecting

year. governor bob mcdonald's plan prioritizes higher education and transportation. there are concerns money would be redirected from public schools to road projects. then a push for a personhood bill and would define conception as beginning of life and be challenged as an effort to outlaw abortion in the commonwealth. in annapolis, lawmakers are expected to revisit same sex marriage. a bill passed in the senate and stalled in the house this year. this time around though, the governor is expected to put his name on the effort. there is also the possibility of a gas tax increase to pay for transportation projects. right now, maryland's gas tax is 23.5 cents a gallon. could go up to 38.5 cents. drivers are paying a steep price to fill up, according to triple a. $3.28 a gallon in the u.s. the highest price gas has ever been to start a year. prices continue to rise as iran

threatens to shut down a major oil transit waterway in the middle east. now in virginia, a gallon of regular unleaded will cost you $3.28. maryland, $3.37. in the district. $3.50 a gallon. drivers leaving downtown d.c. during rush hour now have a new way to cross the river. the second phase of the 11th street bridge project now open. allows drivers to connect to interstate 295 from the southeast/southwest freeway without a need to merge. the inbound bridge opened last month. later this year. d-dot will open a third part for local traffic that will also include pathways for pedestrians. and bicycles. still ahead tonight -- home again. a search-and-rescue dog is lost and found. how he was re -- reunited with handlers. beyonce gives birr toout a baby girl and confusion over the baby's name. a bad break, a woman's cord snaps while bungee jumping.

that is an important part of the forecast. relatively clear skies will allow temperatures to fall tonight. down close to the freezing mark. a little bit of light precipitation starts to move in. could see a few snowflakes in the west virginia mountains late tonight. 32 already in college park. 32, andrews air force base. back into the old dominion. 27 now in manassas. 35, dulles airport. 36 in leesburg. you go further to the west. also very chilly now. 33 martinsburg. 32 in winchester. doppler shows not much going on around town. very light precipitation now moving into northern and central west virginia. some of that is a few random snowflakes. but the deeper moisture is well down to the south. that's the moisture that we are really going to have to wait on. we get into the second half of day tomorrow. chance for light rain. may mix with few light snowflakes around here. late tomorrow into afternoon, time frame. before it comes to a rapid end. our future weather.

human remains on the estate of queen elizabeth. belong to a 17-year-old that went missing from a nearby town. they don't know how the remains gopt there or how the girl died. the girl's family has asked for privacy so they can grieve. a new year's eve bungee jump all most ended in tragedy. a cord snapped as a 22-year-old australian took a 30064 foot plunge off the victoria falls bridge near the border. erin said everything went black when she hit the water. some how she managed to wake up. her cord was stuck on rocks there. and she was in crocodile infested waters. >> i actually had to swim down and yank the bungee cord of what it was caught into. it is a miracle i survived. >> she spent a week in a south african hospital with broken collar broen and bruising. she escaped without life threatening injuries. the bungee jump company is
