bethesda. police say the man tied up a mother and her son then sexually assaulted the housekeeper. it happened this morning on barden road. tonight, we have learned the crime might be linked to another attack. pat come.sin bethesda with the latest. pat? >> reporter: jim, one suspect, two home invasions. police say he is armed. he's dangerous. and he is still at large. in is a picture of a man wanted in not one, but two home invasions, one yesterday in wasn't, another in bethesda a woman taken to the hospital after a sexual assault and armed robbery in this neighborhood near nih. police on roof tops searching high and low for a cell phone linked to this disturbing home invasion. this is how police say it happened here in beth these d.a.

this morning on barden road in bethesda. a short time after that, she hears a knock on the door. at the door, she is confronted by a gunman wearing a mask. and a robber goes inside and ties up the housekeeper and two residents of that house, a woman and her teenaged son. he spent 45 minutes going from room to room to room taking things. at one point, he stops and sexually assaults the housekeeper. he makes his getaway in the housekeeper's car. a ford expedition. after that, police say the suspect used the victim's atm card at a cvc near la tonight plaza where they retrieved this picture. this all happened in this nih neighborhood a place unfamiliar with this kind of violence. >> a horrific thing, that is one of the reasons why people are draw up to this area, people consider it to be a very safe area. >> just in a state of shock it is a very peaceful neighborhood and so unex-spented that this could happen here. >> reporter: now police say this same suspect is also linked to another home invasion yesterday

on mcmahon road in wheat. there, he stole a woman's car and her debit card. police still looking for the getaway car used in the bethesda home invasion, described as gray ford expedition, license plate 4 ae 7450. 4 ae 7450 with a mcdaniel college sticker on it. new town state park remained close as more military ordnance pop up on the shoreline. eight rounds of ammunition were located yesterday after an underwater survey. the park was initially closed on friday after seven potentially dangerous piece of ordnance were found. the maryland state fire marsh l marshal's office and army corps of engineers are trying to work together to figure out where the

to repay the funds, will be in court soon to answer the criminal charge. chairman brown so far has not commented on the recall effort for him. if marines are positively identified they face criminal charges. they were part of a sniper team deployed to southern afghanistan last month. they returned to their base at camp lejeune in august. if the marine corps investigation tracks down the four, they could be criminally charged with violation of regulations which prohibit taking trophy photos of the dead and with desecration of remains. new legislative sessions were kicked off today. for both, the budget will be

front and center. lawmakers will be considering raising the gas tax 5 to 15 cents a gallop. that would be to help pay for transportation projects and help close the deficit there. inkrieg tcreasing the sales tax is another alternative. lawmakers will revisit the same sex marriage bill that passed in the maryland senate last year but died in the house. today, advocates and opponents of the bill say they are geared up to do battle again. >> we are absolutely going to say no and we have a strategy to beat it and we are going to bring out that strategy and you going to defeat that bill any way possible. >> ask yourself is it right we should have a lesser protection of the law for children of gay households than other children? i don't think that is right. >> governor o'malley says other priorities for this 90-day legislative session include building schools and creating jobs. in virginia, governor bob

see it out there now, some rain and some fog across the area. we continue to see that storm 4 doppler radar showing where that rain is really everybody seeing the rain right now, some areas seeing heavier rain than others, in the yellows here, frederick county, through montgomery county, gaithersburg, on through the district seeing that heavy rain. go over toward west virginia, say hello to my friends in martinsburg, falling river, middle way, sandy hook, all seeing rain, charlestown, seeing the rain, too, right along route 340, move toward frederick county, the rain around frederick, mount airy, damascus, seeing good rain through gaithersburg, rockville, bethesda, seeing the rain, in through the district and toward tuxedo, maryland, out toward buoy and kroften, like i said, just before he be seeing that rain, right down i-95 through kwaunlt co-exstafford and fredericksburg, that is where the rain is starting to come to an end, at least this round, because then you look again and you look a little bit wider here and then here's another round yet to come and this one could be the heaviest.

look at all the yellows and oranges here and look at this little spin. that is the actual storm in the upper levels of the atmosphere, you notice these thunderstorms that are beginning to develop just to the east, that's where that tornado warning in, in toward western portions of north carolina, there maybe a tornado watch that is put up for parts of north carolina, too, going to watch that very closely because that area is going to move our way and we could see some rumbles of thunder throughout the rest of the evening tonight. so, a wild ride tonight and then it gets even wilder tomorrow, 45 degrees, kur temperature out there, winds out of the east northeast, 9 miles per hour, the winds will make things feel cooler. 39 in frederick, a cold rain there. 37 in whip chester, very cold to the north and west as far as the rain is concerned. 46 down toward the river and 46 in came bridge. many areas tonight will see the temperatures actually rise over the next few hours as that area of low pressure moves in you know we have the rain today. that storm system moves out and

low marks when it comes to highway safety. the rort from the advocates for highway and auto safety scored states with a green, yellow or red rating, both d.c. and maryland got the green, the highest level, but virginia scored a red rating, the worst. the commonwealth received low marks because it does not have a primary seat belt law and other measures that includes restrictions on teen drivers and a texting ban. the opening of the silver spring transit center has been delayed once again, this time, because of a construction mistake. the three-story facility is being built next to silver springs metro station. it originally was set to open in the spring of 2009. that date has been moved about half a dozen times. the most recent delay is because concrete covering reinforced steel was determined to be too

[ crashing ] >> do something about that that's crazy. >> we think it's safe and this drive cam system, even though it does appear to be scary at times, is a tool that we are using to reduce the number of incidents that operators are being involved in. >> reporter: metro's assistant general manager is in charge of all bus operations. he says the drive cam system was installed one year ago and

drivers know the videos are recording. [ crashing ] as a result, injuries dropped 20%. the video showed not only accidents but critical mistakes like running stop signs and red lights. oh, my goodness. >> reporter: for passengers, it means only one thing. >> more training to the employees, more safety training, first and foremost. they have to -- you know, protect -- [ crashing ] >> reporter: the videos come from a two-month period and metro wants everyone to know that there were about eight accidents that were caught on video. they want to compare that to more than 680,000 trips they say were taken during that same time period. metro says the disciplinary action for someone who makes a mistake can range from a warning
