doug kammerer is here. >> it's through the panhandle now. an europe of thunderstorms just to the south. i wouldn't be surprised to hear at least some thunder, with some cloud to cloud lightning. showers back through winchester, into loudon county, fairfax county, and beginning to come through the district. we're not quite done yet. here's one area we're seeing right now. the actual storm back down towards roanoke. this was an area that prodid produce a tornado potentially. we'll watch this move through our area. i don't think we'll see anything severe. >> right now, police in the district are searching for the man who sexually assaulted a juvenile. it happened in the 5,000 block of hayes street northeast. that's in the same block as the merit middle school building.

police say they're still conducting interviews. tonight, police are trying to track down the man who broke into two homes in montgomery county and tied two women up this morning. the guy sexually assaulted a woman early this morning. that's near n.i.h. yesterday, the same guy forced a woman to give him her wallet and car keys. news 4 jackie bensen. >> reporter: this crimes have unnerved residents of two montgomery neighborhoods. the picture we're about to show you could play a key role in solving it. this is the image of a imagine montgomery police want to find. they say he was caught on camera as he walked into the drugstore in southwest washington this morning. they say he used a stolen debit card and doing so connected him

to two brazen and disturbing crimes. about 6:45 a.m., a woman who works as a housekeeper was entering a home on board barton road when a man forced her inside. he tied her up along with the home's okccupants. >> the suv is a 2005 ford expedition brown color with a college sticker on the back. anybody sees that vehicle, please dial 911. >> reporter: detectives who responded to a call from the home connected the crime to a robbery tuesday. a woman walked into her garage about 10:00 a.m. and was confronted by a man with a gun. her car was stolen but recovered nearby. police believe the same suspect used her bank card at an atm in oxen hill, maryland.

temporary custody of the girl. tonight, police identified the teenager murdered in seecht washingt washington. he was shot several times on 23rd street last night. police haven't made an arest yesterday. >> the latest chapter in the battle over the rightful owner of seven historic churches in virginia. tonight, there's a victory for the episcopal church which essentially was kicked out of this properties three years ago. derrick ward. >> reporter: this church was here during the revolution. it was here during the civil war. it wasn't cannon fire but legal volleys, the latest of which was fired last night, that has served most to rocket at its foundations. the decision came in a lawsuit that began in '07. controversy has already been

when it's on your mind, it's on ebay. new video shows startling crashes involves metro buses. some of the videos shows drivers running red lights. the transit agency says the videos were captured from automatic cameras during a two-month period. officials say there were only eight accidents during that time. that's low, they say, when compared with the more than 680,000 trips during the time frame. metro says since the cameras were installed accidents with injuries have dropped 20%. two sheriff deputies being investigated after this cell phone video surfaced.

it shows one of the deputies knocking a woman down on a city bus south of los angeles. the iraq war veteran took the video last night. help says the woman was not being violent before the police confronted her. >> i couldn't believe it. i mean, he seen me taping him. he looked up at the camera a few times and still hit her like that. i can't believe -- i mean, he didn't try to defuse the situation. >> at a news conference today, police told a different story. they say the woman has four prior convictions for assaulting police officers. the spokesman says the deputy may have gone too far when he hit the woman because nobody was in any immediate danger. that woman has been placed on a 72-hour psychiatric evaluation. tonight, a judge in mississippi stopped the release of some prisoners who were pardoned or granted early release by the former governor as one of his last acts in office. republican haley barbour pardoned more than 200 inmates.

among them, 21 convicted killers and oerps serve others serving time for violent crimes. the attorney general said he violated the state's constitution. help claims some of the inmates failed to give sufficient public notice they were seeking a pardon. a woman rescued after she drove through a flooded road. never a good idea. the woman, who lived nearby, saw the car drive into the high water. she called 911. dispatch told her to make sure the woman stayed in the car but the driver opened the car door and the water poured in up to her waist. firefighters were able to pull her out through a window. >> she is lucky. you tell people over and over but some of us have to learn the hard way. >> right, we always say turn around, don't down. that's the biggest thing. it only take, a foot of water to stop a car. don't drive through any flooded

roadways. we've seen the rain all day. that rain has not come down heavy enough to see that flooding. right now, we are seeing heavy rain potomac. the yellow is moderate rain. right now across the d.c. area. right along the potomac, portions of west virginia, maryland too. we'll zoom in. a couple of zooms around the beltway. if you're out and about on the roads or taking a buiit of a drive, it is naecsty out there. into fairfax county, falls george, just to the north of manassas, some heavy rain. this was some thunderstorm activity earlier. wouldn't be surprised to hear some thunder from this but that's most likely going to be cloud to cloud thunder. through wecht virginia, heavy snow there, through charlottes

town, and down through leesburg, all of us seeing fairly heavy rain. there's more rain to come but this is probably the heaviest band right here. this is the one that came through portions of western north carolina and probe dulsed a tornado. take a look at video. a suspected tornado did destroy a couple homes. no word yet on injuries in this area. they are watching that. they will be out there tomorrow to survey the damage. a january tornado in north carolina you do not see that very often. that goes to show you just how strong that storm is. the good news, we've been on the cold side. so that storm will begin to move out by the time you wake up tomorrow morning. 47 degrees, the current temperature now. the temperature's actually rising. a look down to the south. 54 in fredericksburg. 50 in leplata. i think temperatures could go up a few more degrees tonight. that's where the surprise comes in. rain right now.

you see the rain. there goes our storm. in behind this storm, normally this time of year, we see the cold weather right away. this will be warm air tomorrow. temperatures 20 degrees above average. then, here comes the frontal boundary on friday. look at 2:30 in the morning. this will most likely end as a period of snow to the north of the washington, d.c. area. i don't think it's going to amount to much but that's how cold the air is to give us a little bit of cold and windy conditions behind this storm coming up during the day friday. so very warm day tomorrow and then a cold day on friday. here's your next couple of days showing the high temperature tomorrow of 62. a big difference. tomorrow morning starting off on a nice note. you should be fine on the drive in. windy late tomorrow. windy still on friday, high of 41. windchills only in the 30s all day saturday and sunday. they're going to be cold. highs in the mid-30s. looks like we stay at or below average right on through the middle of next week. >> hello, january. >> hello, january. finally kind of showing up.
