tuscany. rescue crews freed three more people. dive teams recovered two more bodies. the ship's captain faces manslaughter charges after authorities say he left his post before the 4,200 people on board were safe. >> we know that the cause of the problem was water on board. that could be just because they find some rocks. so we don't know why the ship was so close to the coast. >> under italian law, the captain could face 12 years in prison for abandoning a ship in danger. the search is on for student. dar si spencer joins us live from howard university with more on the search. >> reporter: the university as well as students are using

social media to try to locate the student. this is one of the facebook pages that has been set up. you can see her picture has been posted and there are various articles about the case. the student was last seen leaving this dorm room just five days ago. arianna carr, a 17-year-old howard university freshman now the target of a missing person's investigation. >> what happened to her? >> we're not sure. we just know she's not here. the howard university community wants to get her back. her relatives want her back. >> reporter: she caught a flight on january 7th after winter break and was seen leaving her dorm room on january 10th. her mom has not been able to reach her since. >> this is her only child. she's physically, mentally, emotionally completely depleted. she hasn't slept in a number of

days. she's having a hard time talking and communicating. >> reporter: a family friend says ariana talked about withdrawing from the university but had not done so. she was also seeing a young man who was not a student here. >> i don't know what's going on with this young lady, but she needs to call her mom and tell her. the rumors are that she's at her boyfriend's house. >> our immediate concern is that people don't assume she's with the boyfriend. >> reporter: students have received an e-mail alert about the missing student and there's a facebook page set up to give tips about where she might be. >> we're going to try to find out all the details we can about why she left, where she may be, but we just need those folks who have any information to give us a call about it. >> reporter: and these posters have been posted all around campus with a phone number. we're going to share that with you now. 202-806-110. that's the number to call if you

have any information. that family friend indicates that she has not used her cell phone. she's not using social media. there's no sign of foul play according to police, but her family is very concerned and that i want her back home. reporting live from northwest washington, darcy spencer. a man charged with three violent home invasions in our area is on his way back to maryland tonight. kevin darnel ray was arrested friday night in north carolina. police say he's responsible for a home invasion in wheaten on tuesday, one in bah nez na, and one on friday. a d.c. nightclub could soon reopen. the control board decided to reinstate mood lounge's liquor license. it's on ninth street. the liquor license was revoked after two people were stabbed outside that club two weeks ago. now to decision 2012.

with less than a week before the south carolina primary, gop candidates are hoping to get support among voters. they took part in a faith in freedom breakfast. both rick santorum and rick perry took the opportunity to reach out to voters in south carolina. >> i know the values of this state and i know the values of the people who will be voting in this republican primary. >> you don't have to let the popular media tell you who is best prepared to beat barack obama. peer into your heart and think about the values that are important to you. >> jon huntsman got a big endorsement today from south carolina's largest newspaper, "the state." in the latest polls, jon huntsman remains far behind mitt romney and newt gingrich. the first family celebrated martin luther king jr.'s birthday at church today in northwest washington.

the service included a reading from king's letter from a birmingham jail. today would have been dr. king's 83rd birthday. hundreds attended a wreath-laying ceremony at the memorial today on the mall. it was the first birthday observance for the leader since the memorial was dedicated. derrick ward has more. >> reporter: not just happy birthday in celebrating, but we're celebrating the best of what we are, but what we must become. the memorial has become a focal point of pride and contemplation about those sentiments that span seas and borders and generations. >> i think about it like he's still alive. >> reporter: and his words do live on. on the walls of the memorial and on the sculpture itself, living words like living people go through changes.
