on storm center 4, first where the snow is falling at this minute. we begin with shma rrvei stone. >> iets cold we're in leesburg, virginia the snow has arrived. this is east market street leading to route 15, we saw people driving, the regular speed limit, over the last what, 15 to 20 minutes they have begun to slow down. as you can see by the light right there, that snow is beginning to fall down. you come over here, there is a lot of folks working and when they are getting off they will have to come to their cars, get the snow off the windshields and earlier we went to hardware stores and saw some people buying ice melt. a hot of folks say they have been putting it down including v-dot and maryland dot have their ice melt, they have been going around with trucks, pre-treated the roadways and right now v-dot has 600 trucks will bring in more if needed,

slick. getting reports hurndon, most of the accidents i'm seeing on twitter around stafford, overspreading the area, we have the area slick with snow then ice, freezing rain taking place on top of that. that winter weather advisory for the area goes until 1:00 p.m. tomorrow. you can see the white echos, that is what we have been waiting on. that is what we have now down around manassas, woodbridge, in eastern troubles county, including leonardtown, there is moderate snow. a lot of moisture from the south will have this for a while. the snow, it will accumulate quickly, a couple inches especially up to the north. but then it's freezing rain that will be taking place on top of that. the breakdown for you right here, from now up until 2::00 a.m. snow, freezing rain from

2:00 to noon. how much ice could you see? details in a couple minutes. >> sounds messy. a pedestrian rushed to the hospital tonight after being hit along duke street in alexandria, happened at 8:45 this evening where duke crosses i-395. the driver stayed on the scene. the pedestrian suffered minor injuries. the same area where a child hit and killed over the weekend. brian hernandez chavez was killed when he was hit by a drunk driver 2:30 sunday afternoon. neighbors responded saying there is a need for better sidewalks along that portion of duke street. route 29 near gainesville was shut down after a train hit a truck. happened at route 29 and us 55. there is a major construction project in that area but not clear if that played a role in the collision. according to inside nova, this is the second time in over a month there has been a train accident at this location. in a few hours, republicans in south carolina go to the

march. he has survived prostate cancer and he had a kidney transplant in 2009. he will run for another term as ward 8 council member this fall. it has been one year and police still have no idea what happened to a pregnant woman from loudon county who disappeared. bethany decker was last seen in january. after weeks trying to contact her family members, they reported her disappearance to police in february. decker's husband deployed to afghanistan in early february of last year. police think her boyfriend was the last person to see her alive. but the sheriff admits investigators still have very few clues. they are working -- they're following up on every lead, doing a terrific job following up on every lead, work vigorously on the investigation. aside from that, not much more to tell you because it's under investigation. >> decker had a 17-month-old son was six months pregnant at the time of her disappearance. take a look at this woman in the black shirt. she is wanted for four robberies

in virginia. just since christmas. two took place at stores in fairfax county, in each case she showed the teller a gun, demanded money. seen leaving in a dark station wagon similar to a subaru. several girl scout troops won't be sponsored by st. timothy's church. they won't be allowed to meet or wear uniforms on school property. it's connected to the parent, the world association of girl guides, and with the church calls the affiliation with planned parenthood. every pa every pastor has to determine the request and reconcile that with the needs and mission of the parish community. the regional girl scout council says it will make sure the troops affected can all find new homes. a developing story in reno,

a man admitted to starting a massive wild fire. the fire chief says the man told authorities he had improperly discarded fireplace ashes. so far, the fire has burned more than 3,000 acres, destroyed 29 homes, and forced as many as 10,000 people to evacuate. the fire chief says the man is cooperating with investigators. the owner of the cruise ship that ran aground off the coast of italy last week says the captain of that ship grossly under-played the severity of the accident that left at least 11 people dead. the ceo told italian television he spoke to francesco schettino 20 minutes after the crash. he never relayed to the company or his crew that the boat had hit rocks. 21 people remain missing. rescue efforts have been on and off because officials are worried about the stability of the massive boat and the safety of the search crews. two communities in virginia are mourning the loss of a marine killed in a helicopter

crash in afghanistan. six marines were killed when the nato helicopter went down in helmand province yesterday. the cause of the crash is not clear. military officials say there was no immediate evidence of enemy activity in the area. one of the fallen marines is sergeant travis riddick, he and his wife lived in gordonsville, met when-- quantico. he recently passed up a chance to retire. today the national highway traffic safety administration closed its investigation in reports of chevy volt battery fires. officials say the electric cars do not have any discernible safety defect. the investigation was opened after a volt that was being tested caught fire after severe roll-over side impact crash tests. general motors has made vehicle modifications. head's up if you're riding metro this weekend, expect delays on all five lines. on the red line the medical

a dozen protesters were arrested on the steps of the supreme court today. they were protesting the high court ruling that removed limits on the amount of money corporations can spend in federal elections. this weekend marks the two year anniversary of the ruling. police soon moved in on the demonstrators to break things up. similar protests and arrests outside federal courthouses in more than 100 city nationwide. florida's department of law enforcement is defending the decision to pay some employees to get drunk on the job. police conduct and $8,000 study to test effectiveness of the intoxilyzer 8,000. the study was done in a controlled environment. the courts will decide the fate of the breathalyzer, they haven't ruled whether the results will be considered.

hours, we will see ice, not good. stay off the roads, folks, unless you have to be out on th roads. big flakes, this is from brenda in spotsylvania, big flakes, this one from tyler moore in south ridge, virginia, accidents being reported with that snow that is falling fast. moderate snow will accumulate quickly in a couple of locations. not just here, but take a look at winter weather advisories, winter storm warning you can see the snow in leesburg, virginia piling up. the parking lot there covered. the cars starting to get a little covered as well. here we go the wintery mess for the big city, not just here but areas of pennsylvania. there is the white and that means snow. several inches of snow, they will get about three to four inches, what we will have around here is an inch to maybe two inches up to the north and freezing rain on top of that. 28 the temperature, look at the windchill, 21 degrees. the wind, yeah, out of the east, starting to pick up. you can see the moisture, the

bright white, that is where there is moderate snow right now. that is around manassas, woodbridge, areas south around calvert beach. even up to the north around south woodside park. moderate snow falling through the area. more moisture to the south. area of low pressure, that is the storm system that is going to be tracking east, and here we go with the future weather. the snow, there it is to the north. we won't have much more hours of it, freezing rain takes over by 1:30, 2:00. we will see accumulation of ice throughout the area. rain for southern maryland, rain for the northern neck. by the time we get to noontime, i think most of it will be ending and tapering, some showers and freezing rain mix down across the south. a little later than that, and anything that lingers after that for saturday night and sunday morning, more pockets of freezing rain, probably fog and light snow.
