expected to take a couple days. it started earlier this week in the 11,00900 block in old fort road, washington. i know you've been following the body since it was discovered. anything new? >> reporter: at this point, no. you can see the police remain on the scene in the 11900 block of old fort road as they prepare for the next phase of the investigation. i want to show you some scenes from yesterday morning as police cadets went over the ground area of this well. it was thursday evening when police got an unanimous phone tip reporting the body at the bottom of the well. in the 11900 block of old fort well. the detectives could see the body and lowered a camera down to make sure. their did confirm that. after the cadets were finished with the grid search, they began another part of the

investigation and there's still a lot more work to be done. >> we have to excavate around the well. that requires a lot of equipment. require requires a lot of man power. there is potential of a well collapse. this will be a long drawn out methodical well recovery process. >> reporter: the presence of al alexandria police led to speculation this could be the body of len harris last seen in september. in october, his cell phone was found on the woodrow bridge and then his car found on wilson road and led to speculation on that. the police said they are not ruling anything out but cannot disqualify or say at this point exactly who was at the bottom of the well. once they get to the body, expected to happen sometime this weekend, perhaps sunday evening,

candidacy is a two-man race now. but rick santorum says he isn't quitting any time soon. the former pennsylvania senator returned to the philadelphia area for a fund raiser last night. he told reporters when he arrived he hasn't had any discussions for dropping out and will be in the race for quote a long long long time. he scored a surprise win in the iowa caucuses but since been beat out both by romney and gingrich in south carolina. presidential hopeful ron paul is defending himself against reports he was involved with a company that produces racially charged newsletters. reports he approved racial an - anti-semitic and anti-gay articles published in 1990s. three people involved in the business have also described paul's involvement. paul denies the acquisiticusati says he never read the newsletter. it was a meeting of the

minds in the oval office. former president bush and his s son, jeb bush met yesterday. they did not discuss the details of meeting and expected to attend the annual alfalfa meeting tonight. d.c. state hood dealt another blow, this time by another state. mayor quam kwame brown went to council members to push to be recognized. it downtown last long as they quickly shot down the mayor's pleas to support d.c. statehood rejecting the proposal saying it violates the constitution. we have several traffic alerts for you this morning. two-lanes are closed on i-270 northbound at shady grove road, so maryland's highway administration can do a routine inspection on the bridge there. any lanes closed at 4:30 this morning and should be open back

welcome back. occupy d.c. protesters have been put on notice, pack up by noon on monday or risk arrest. they handed out flyers to demonstrators at mcpherson square and the plaza yesterday notifying them of the eviction. they will start enforcing a law that makes it illegal to have camping gear and temporary structures at protest sites. the response comes days after members of congress complained the park service was allowing illegal camping and demanded actio action. >> this movement is based on economic repression and inequality. if we can't be in a public park, there's a lot of other places we can be. people believe in this moment

and it doesn't matter if they kick us out of a square, the fight will continue. >> the protesters risk fines or arrests if they attempt to camp in the parks after this weekend. the man known as the barefoot bandit will spend the next six years behind bars. colton harris-moore was sentenced yesterday in a seattle courtroom. he's just 20 years old, went on a two year crime spree all over the world in 2008, breaking out of a juvenile detention facility, stealing a plane and robbing a bank. he committed most of these crimes while not wearing shoes, earning him the nickname of "barefoot bandit." the man convicted of killing michael jackson wants out of bail. he asked a judge to release him on bail with electronic monitoring pending appeal. he says he's not a danger to society and wants to support his seven children. jackson died of an overdose of

the anti-septic proppy fofol an murray was sentenced to four years but will probably only spend half of that time in jail. a man convicted of sex abuse of four -- arrested for sex abuse with four boys is asking to see his grandchildren by electronic e-mail, text or skype. sandusky is currently under house arrest and forbidden to have contact with any under the age of 18. a judge is expected to make a decision on the request next month. new details have emerged about bp's knowledge about the bp horizon water disaster. turns out officials had an internal e-mail conversation discussing the potential problems the oil spill could cause. they also made sure this information was not shared with the people outside the company. bp agreed to release the e-mails as part of the ongoing federal court case against them.

welcome to "news4 today." i'm chris gordon. >> i'm angie goff. >> crews are starting to dig to recover the body found in fort washington, maryland. the process is expected to take a couple days and speculation it belongs to harris, an activist missing since september. brittany norwood will spend the rest of her life in prison.

yesterday, a judge sentenced norwood to life without parole for killing her co-worker last march. norwood tried to cover up the murder telling police she and murray were attacked by two men while closing the store. beginning monday, park police will start enforcing a law that makes it illegal to have camping gear and temporary strurktures at the protest sites. they face arrest if they attempt to camp out after this weekend. new from overnight, a deadly car crash. four people died when two cars collided in the davidsonville area. they shut down eastbound 50 for several hours. it is back open again at this hour. police have not released the victim's names or said what they think led to the crash. chris. >> thank you. it's meant to give you directions or help a driver

racketeering, extortion, illegal gambling and conspiracy to distribute marijuana. federal agents also arrested an associate of the gabino crime family. the man who first tipped off city officials to questionable spending by council member harry thomas is now running for thomas' vacated seat. according to the "washington examiner," tim day, an accountant who ran against thomas in 2010 filed with the board of elections yesterday. thomas resigned from the council earlier this month and pleaded guilty to stealing more than $350,000 from the city to spend on a lavish lifestyle. a special election will be held may 15th. the virginia house of delegates passes a bill to repeal a requirement for girls to get the hpv vaccine before sixth grade. the vaccine helps prevent a virus that can conceal cervical cancer. hpv is spread through sexual contact and some conservative lawmakers felt the law promoted casual pre-marital sex. they also say that the state mandate usurps parental rights.
