gingrich will be campaigning in nevada tomorrow. and romney is clarifying a statement he made about poor people this money on cnn. he said he was not concerned about the very poor because they have, a quote, safety net. but when asked about the comment, he says he cares about all americans but wants the focus to be on the middle class. >> by the way, i'm in this race because i care about americans. i'm not concerned about the very poor. we have a safety net there. if it needs repair, i'll fix it. of course i'm concerned about all americans, poor, wealthy, middle class. but the focus of my effort will be on middle income families who have been most hurt by the obama economy. >> after romney's original comments, president obama's campaign adviser immediately responded. a student was inappropriately touched at a school. >> i have to protect my child.

>> reporter: this woman is outraged after picking her son up at ketchum elementary school in south washington. >> it makes me feel terrible as a parent. >> reporter: school officials say a man walked in and inappropriately touched a student. >> all the teachers was running down the stairs r they called police. the man got away. officers searched, interviewed the child and talked to school officials. a statement was issued, dcps is treating this matter very seriously. we are working with the mpd and reviewing our security measures to ensure we have the best protocols in place to prevent further breach of our school building by unauthorized individuals. >> i'm going to transfer my kids if they don't find the person who did this. >> reporter: school officials say they told parents about what happened. but many told me they didn't know anything about it. >> i wish somebody would tell me what's going on. i walk my kids every day to school. >> warn the parents. at least they're standing there at the door and not telling us what's going on.

>> reporter: investigators urge anyone with information about what happened to call the d.c. police department. a close call for a mother pushing a baby carriage downtown today. a car jumped a curb and slammed into a building. it happened at 14th and "h" streets northwest. workers on the third floor could feel the impact. the woman, her baby and the driver all expected to be okay. now to a developing story in fairfax county. some dogs that were abandoned in maryland are getting a new home tonight. jane watrel joins us live from chantilly. >> reporter: they're dirty, stinky but adorable. these dogs were rescued from cumberland, maryland. all they need is some tenderness loving care. the nonprofit rescue group has

brought in 14 poodle puppies, six adult poodles to chantilly. they were left on a doorstep with a note that the owner had dementia and could no longer dare for them. the shelter put out a rescue call for help because they're so small, they would not be able to keep all the animals. the local shelter group responded. >> right now, we'll make them comfortable, fget them fed, watered and assess the immediate need. otherwise, just going to be comfortable until we can get them in slowly to our vet and cleaned up and ready for adoption. >> reporter: so the 21 poodles in all will be going to foster homes, as you heard, until they are ready to be adopted. watch aforeverhome.org for more information. they're taking applications to

adopt these cute pups. reporting live, jane watrel, news 4. >> thank you, jane. i'm sure those puppies will have new homes soon. and we're learning more tonight about the man accused of murdering a community activist from virginia. linwood johnson was on probation when he shot and killed lenny harris. harris had just given him a job selling t-shirts. harris was last seen in alexandria last september. his body was found in a well in ft. washington, maryland, last week. his brother spoke up. >> i am not upset with linwood johnson. >> police say the motive for the murder was robbery. tonight, there's a big spike in donations for planned parenthood after news got out that it was losing a big source of revenue. there's a new policy that keeps it from giving money to groups under investigation. congress is investigating planned parenthood over claims

d.c. police hope this picture of a blanket will help them find the person who abandoned an infant in northeast last month. the baby was found unconscious wrapped in a blanket outside a home on channing street on january 15th. a neighbor tried to revive the

baby by performing cpr and the child was taken to children's medical center where it died. the cause of death, still being determined by the medical examiner. a police officer on motorcycle was hit this afternoon. it happened in front of the national press club building downtown. the accident caused a huge traffic mess. a win for a woman in california who sued honda over her civic hybrid's poor fuel economy could open the floodgates. a los angeles small claims court awarded heather peters more than $9,000 today. a judge ruled that honda's claim of 50 miles to the gallon for the 2006 civic hybrid were misleading. if all 200,000 honda civic owners should file similar suits, it could cost honda $2 billion. facebook is going public and when it happens, it's expected to skyrocket to one of the

world's most valuable companies. facebook expects to offer $5 billion worth of shares. that would value the site between $75 billion and $100 billion. that would make it one of the largest companies in the world. but still falls short of apple, which is worth $425 billion. and google, which is worth $189 billion. so facebook is already one of the most popular websites with 845 million users. in fact, one out of every seven minutes on the internet spent on facebook. for the average users, that's six hours a month. so with its filing, facebook also had to list what factors could destroy this company. on its list of 38 risk facts, facebook mobile apps don't show ads. that could cost the company ad dollars. also with 88% revenue growth last year, facebook admits that

may not be sustainable. so what does going public mean for you? well, we would hear more about the company like how it handles the users' private information and how many ads it sells. before mtv, there was "soul train." that would be the great legacy of don cornelius. quincy jones pays tribute to a groundbreaking force in the music business. don cornelius was the creator and host of "soul train." he was found dead today at his home in sherman oaks, california. he was 75 years old. the show ran from 1971 to 2006. it was the first show to feature primarily african-american dancers and musical artists. tonight here in washington, actor, director and former politician clint eastwood

they're in their gloves and their hats and they have big coats on. not us. today, a lot of you out in shorts. we saw a lot of people out in short sleeves. it was really just a spectacular day. even saw quite a few of you in sandals across the area today. it was simply gorgeous with a high temperature of 72 degrees. that is still, though, 5 degrees shy of the record. the record high temperature for today, 77 degrees. february starting off very warm. but we are going to start to see changes as we move into the night tonight. taking a look at the temperatures right now, currently sitting in the 50s. as we look at the temperatures, still in the 50s. still in the 60s in some areas. we'll continue to see the numbers go down tonight. as far as that current temperature, 57 degrees. looking at cloudy skies with winds out of the north at about 6 miles per hour. the rest of the region, 41 in

cumberland. 50 right now in petersburg. 55 in culpeper. the cooler air is filtering in. it is going to feel a little bit cooler tomorrow morning. take a look at these highs. 72 in washington. 72 in richmond. 62 in new york. 67 in philly. beautiful along the east coast. a little cooler back to the west. 58 in morgantown. 59 in charleston. some of that cooler air will filter in here tomorrow. radar showing that we are seeing rain down to the south around culpeper, just to the south of stafford. seeing light showers right now. those will continue to be light as they make their way toward the east. a better chance of rain with the frontal boundary as it makes its way our way. it will bring moisture into the washington, d.c. area, most likely by tomorrow morning. we are talking about at least a chance for some rain right around rush hour as the frontal boundary moves to the south and that area of low pressure moves closer to the region. then it will move out. we may see showers early tomorrow. may need your umbrella as you

step out the door. but not tomorrow afternoon. here comes the sunshine. we're going to stay on the mild side. temperatures will be about 10 to 15 degrees above normal even though they'll be about 10 to 15 degrees below where they were during the day today. a good day on friday. this is a system that i've been talking about, this pesky system that's hard to predict for our area. getting a little easier. for denver, how about up to a foot of snow out there towards the denver area. they've seen a lot of snow. we haven't seen any. this storm will move our way but not until the day on sunday and into early monday. tomorrow morning, a few showers. mild start, 40 to 47 degrees. tomorrow afternoon, temperatures will go up again but not as high as they were today. still mild, though. 53 to 57 degrees with sunshine. by about 2:00, 3:00, it's going to be beautiful. 52 on friday. 51 on saturday. there's that 60% chance of rain on sunday. but it's just light rain as the

the capitals have now lost 4 of their last 5. i hate to say it. but the one role the wizards have been playing to perfection this season is the role of slump buster. they go down to orlando and help the magic snap a four-game losing streak. for john wall and company, this was not a fun time. certainly not the happiest place on earth, at least not tonight there in orlando. wall struggled the entire game. 0 for his first 9. hit his first field goal late in the fourth quarter. wall, just 12 points on the night. as for the magic, they've got dwight howard and he is a monster. six minutes to go. orlando up by eight. and howard posterizes mcgee. the magic win it 109-103. wizards now 4-19 on the season. down a level.
