west of denver of nearly 3.5 feet of snow and that is in just the last 24 hours. this storm is trying to move our way but it is going to be stopped by an area of high pressure moving from the north. that will allow some of the pressure to move in here. if the air is cold enough some of us could see snow flakes. the timing of this one is interesting. could see some snow. thank you. there's a mess in the works for metro riders this weekend. right now the stations are closed meaning riders will have to take buses. riders will have to get off trains at the courthouse, pentagon and foggy bottoms stations and get on a bus and get back on metro on the other side of the river. there is single tracking on the red line this weekend as metro works on the rails. all the work is supposed to be

finished by monday morning. we have breaking news connected to the biggest leak of classified information in u.s. history. the commander of the military district of washington ordering a court martial for manning accused of giving wiki leak 700,000 documents. the 24 year old from oklahoma is facing 24 counts and life in prison if convicted. soldiers around the world are mourning the death of a general who passed away in afghanistan. he was 49. terrance hilder died from natural causes. he is is the highest ranked to die in afghanistan during the war. for a time he was in charge of chaining 20,000 soldiers a year at fort lee in virginia. now to a murder reverb rating. tonight jackie benson shows us

the surveillance video of the person police are looking for. the surveillance camera video taken about 8:30 thursday night shows a man walking calmly across east capitol street away from the bus stop where 23-year-old jones had been stabbed to death. >> whoever did this i want you to be a man or whatever you was, a hater, whatever, just step forward and just plead your case and say that you did it. >> reporter: all that is left is her love for an only son whose choices included living as a trans gendered person she always supported. she said it was easy to love her child. >> we never had a boring day in our house. if i just mention my son's name to anybody they start laughing. everybody loves him. >> reporter: police say a motive for the murder has not been

established but they want to talk to the man seen in the video. d.c. police hope someone in the area walking or driving may have seen some of what happened. if so they are eligible for a $25,000 reward. reporting from northeast washington, jackie benson, news 4. an 84-year-old woman was found beaten and bloodied inside her apartment. police say the woman opened the door to someone she thought was a neighbor. she was found after lying on the floor for a day unable to move after a neighbor noticed her door was opened. the victim is recovering. this happened and no arrests have been made. a high school student is demanding an apology after the principal told him he needed permission to wear the jewish head covering and said he needed

a letter from a rabbi. montgomery county does not have a specific policy on hats in schools. the family and the principal will meet on tuesday to discuss the situation. after an angry reaction from the public and supporters the susan g komen foundation decided to go back. the original decision was politicly motivated. the foundation has revised the grant criteria to only exclude groups under criminal investigation. >> i hope we can get past the crazyiness of the past few days and took the focus away from komen's mission. >> that's a very positive relief and i'm glad we can focus on woman's health again. >> planned parenthood took in $3 million in donations in the last

three days. just a day before the nevada caucuses, mitt romney and newt gingrich blasting president obama's handling of the economy even as a new jobs report shows a surge in hiring and unemployment at its lowest level in three years. both candidates said the president has done little to help create jobs and may have hindered job creation. nevada has the highest unemployment rate in the country. what's the delay? that's what several lawmakers want to know about investigations into mistakes at arlington national cemeteries. reports first surfaced in 2009. two top officials were forced out in 2010 but there have been no criminal charges filed. a spokesman for the army says the case is open and ongoing. ron whitman called the lack of any prosecution unacceptable. he killed a none and will spend the next 20 years in

prison. that was the sentence handed down for carlos montana. the illegal immigrant was drunk when he crashed into a car full of nuns. in court he asked the judge for mercy and the judge reconsidered his plan for even longer term. >> i am extremely sorry for the destruction and harm i put the sisters and their families through. i feel horrible up on myself for what i have done. i take full responsibility for my actions and am willing to accept my penalty. >> the judge said he planned to give him a stiffer sentence but changed his mind after he heard the plea. this weekend fairfax county police are going after drunk drivers because it is super bowl weekend. officers did the same thing last year and busted 39 people for drunk driving. they say alcohol played a role in eight crashes. super bowl weekend is finally here as we go live to indianapolis where jim vance and

dan hellie caught up with joe gibbs today. >> reporter: i got to tell you some of the best fun to be had at a super bowl has nothing to do with the game. it's all about reacquainting with people that you have known or perhaps loved for a long time. dan and i had such a moment today when we ran into coach joe gibbs who was thrilled to tell us about a recent reunion with many of his players from the redskins glory years. >> i was telling jim i thought because i was away from it, it is emotional for me. everybody else probably didn't feel that way. when those guys got back and they got up and talked it was awesome. those guys got emotional and said how much that era meant to them. it was great and fun getting everybody together. >> i'm curious about something. do you think that belichick and coughlin have the same kind of relationship with their guys so that 20 years from now the same kind of thing would happen?

do coaches and players have that relationship? >> i think they would have. i think the one thing that does not change in pro sports, everything else changes but human nature doesn't change. you win because you get a great group of guys together. that's what we had. >> is there a player you talk to all the time? >> probably joe jacoby. >> he's in coaching. >> he's in coaching. he said coach i don't think car dealerships is where i belong. i want to coach. i said are you sure? i said don't do that. >> you were talking earlier about your grandchildren. >> yeah. >> seven of the eight are boys. >> boys. >> and you are still coaching. >> i'm coaching them. i was telling jim, my two grand sons knew who i was on the team.

the other 12 don't know who i am or care who i am and don't pay attention to anything i say. they are picking their nose. one kid, our biggest kid walked out of the game after two plays. he goes back in. two plays later he is coming off again. this is our first game. i said what are you doing. he goes they are hitting me in places where i don't have pads. >> reporter: how do you answer that one? >> i said here is the deal about football. see that bench. he goes yeah. i said here is the deal about football. you can sit on that bench for the rest of the game or hit them where they don't have any pads. >> reporter: that's coaching. >> reporter: we had a great time with coach today. that was the greatest story. we did not ask him who he thinks is going to win because i didn't get the sense that he cares.

lance armstrong is closed. the seven time tour defrance winner says he is happy the doping investigation was closed. prosecutors spent two years trying to find out if armstrong and teammates have used illegal performance enhancing drugs. the busiest shopping and dining destination is now the center of an escalating feud between the police and the vietnamese community. >> reporter: it's the hub of the vietnamese community. >> we always going and it is always really sweet and they remember us. >> reporter: this shopping center has a reputation with law enforcement for being the center of illegal activity. in aug tust the task force raid

over a dozen bars and restaurants seizing gambling machines and cash. on thursday night three businesses and two more men were arrested for illegal gambling and money laundering. >> our detectives began their investigations in fairfax county which led them to these businesses in falls church. >> we feel like we have been really targeted. >> reporter: in the wake of the raid business leaders and store owners gathered at the eden center. they say they are fed up with being unfairly targeted by police. all people arrested in august they say were acquitted or charges dismissed. >> it is improper investigation or two straight racism. >> reporter: vietnamese leaders are calling for policing. fairfax county police say more arrests are likely which will

aggravate here at the eden center. employees of the starbucks complain they were taken off the job for drinking too much coffee. eight employees have been suspended for drinking more than one free coffee per shift. that manager was fired and lost her health insurance. the other workers are being asked to pay back tabs that run from hundreds of to $13,000. the policy allows for one free beverage during work hours. you are looking at the first major event honoring post 9/11 veterans. it is likely you'll see a lot more of them. a crowd came out for this parade in st. louis. organizers say they have been approached by at least ten other cities including philadelphia looking to do the same.

4,500 u.s. troops lost their lives fighting in iraq. nchlts lots of things can force a plane to make an emergency landing. among them apparently a dirty diaper. a flight had to make an emergency landing on sunday. the pilot reported an unusual odor on the plan. according to the daily mail once on the ground crews found a dirty diaper in the bathroom. the airline did admit all passengers on board had to be taken off the plane using a fork lift because the airport where the plane landed is not large enough to handle the big 737 jets. >> deplaning on a fork lift. >> i hope that family with that baby was long gone. >> don't make eye contact. >> most parents know that smell very, very well. >> dissecting the diaper genie

story during the break. >> what is this about the meteor? we had a meteor come down across the area. some reports on my twitter page and facebook from as far away as pennsylvania. all up and down the east coast seeing what looks like a meteor. we saw one last night in texas and one earlier today. >> have to wait for somebody with a dashboard camera. >> if you have pictures send them in. out there right now pretty nice evening. if you walk outside you can probably see that no problem. we have mostly clear skies. high temperature today 52 degrees. a low of 37. we have been above average 12 days in a row. it has been remarkable how warm we have been. we saw 72 the other day and temperatures in the 60s today. 52 degrees. i think our 50s and 60s are just about gone. 40 degrees right now.

it is a fantastic evening. cooler in the suburbs. around 31 degrees and up towards annapolis at 38. we are cool but for this time of year it is not bad at all. storm 4 radar not showing rain across our area right now. i don't expect to see any really develop until early into late afternoon. here is where the moisture is. there is a lot of moisture to the west. a lot of moisture. there is going to be some areas here that have seen flash flooding towards texas and oklahoma right through the st. louis area. and all of the snow back towards denver, some areas to the west of denver, the latest report i saw 40.4 inches of snow. that is well over three feet of snow in the mountains just to the west of denver. most of the ski resorts did not get this. this storm system is going to move our way but will move our way in pieces.

the main energy will stay to the west. we are going to see some of that move in. here is the storm. still snowing in denver. they have seen over 24 hours of straight snow. high pressure for us will move out of here. here comes the shower activity. if there is cold enough air saturday night into sunday morning some areas could see the potential for some light snow. i'm not expecting much. most of it will stay well to the north of the washington dc area. on sunday most of this should be early and the best chance of rain will be to the south. the best chance of a mix and it won't cause problems will be north of the washington, d.c. area with a high of 43. that's cold considering what we have been. 52 on tuesday. another chilly day wednesday coming in with a high only around 41 degrees. there is some cold air out there. at least a little bit. >> a little action to get excited about sunday morning. >> for us we haven't had much.

see what those guys have for us now. >> reporter: final day of practice in the books for both the patriots and the giants. we have been talking about them all week. rob gronkowski was limited in practice. he is going to play in the game on sunday. bradshaw did not practice today. he is listed as probable. he is going to play, too. if you can walk you are going to play in the super bowl. there is no doubt. for the two coaches it is amazing how much attention to detail these two have. tom coughlin found out the game time temperatures inside lucas oil stadium will be between 68 and 70 degrees. he made sure the temperature in the practice bubble was set at 70 degrees every day. the patriots capped their practice with an hour long walk through. as you can see players never really running faster than a job. both coaches very content going

into the big game. >> i feel like our team has had a good week. i feel like we'll be ready to go. we are looking forward and excited to be representing the afc. >> our players have been excited about getting from the meeting room to the practice field. that has build up very well over the last couple of days. we are looking forward to today for our normal friday practice and of course going through our saturday routine. >> the whole journey has been great. obviously now the goal is to finish it off and to finish it off strong. all season long coach coughlin has talked about finish. that has been the word of the season. finish games in the fourth quarter and finish the season strong. >> you make a commitment to do your job and do it as well as you can over the course of an entire season. to play 22 games this year and to fight for every single one of them is something that everyone should be proud of.

certainly we expect that again in a few days. >> reporter: heisman trophy winner griffin was at the national prayer breakfast challenging president obama to a friendly game of basketball yesterday. today he was getting a full workup at the gator aid sports science institute. the athletes are there for two hours where they test and measure and poke and prod. i think they will find out this young man is a specimen. not going to stay in town long for the big game because he says he wants to earn his first trip to the super bowl. i love the makeup of robert griffin iii. it would be amazing to see him with the washington redskins next year but they will have to give up a lot to get him. wizards on the road in toronto and things did not go well against a team that is 8-16 on the road. nick young and the wiz trying to
