i'm jim bacchus. >> and i'm doreen. let's go to doug. doug? >> it's making its way to cincinnati and back toward sint louis, st. louis now switching over to snow and that whole storm system moving our way. temperatures made it up to the mid-50s across the area and even close to 60 degrees, but we do have some colder air start to go move through the area. 46 right now in state college, 46 in hagerstown, 46 in west virginia. most of that moisture will start a snow, and for many of you it may stay a snow. we are expecting some accumulations. i'll have an updated snowfall map, but it's not just this storm we're watching. even more wintry weather making its way just in time for the weekend. i'll have a full report coming up. >> thanks, doug. >> paramedics examined perry

before the state of the district address. he needed some help walking out after the address. however, in a tweet to several members of the news force staff not long ago, barry says he's feeling fine now. even went out to dinner tonight with his godson. in the rals fce for the whi house, rick santorum picked up a win in three states tonight. >> rick santorum's comeback came in the caucus states he focused on instead of florida, shooting for colorado and minnesota's 70 delegates. they predicted him the winner in minnesota. >> santorum has 20. ron paul, 11. >> and santorum is the winner of the non-binding missouri primary, his first win since iowa. president obama had to hand santorum and his rivals an issue that had to become a general

firestorm. the new rule, requiring religiously affiliated employers like catholic hospitals next year to pay for birth control as part of what republicans call obamacare. santorum, a conservative catholic, is outraged. >> we look for the government to provide to us. they own you. they take not just your economic liberty, they take everything from you. >> mitt romney weighed in. >> this kind of assault on religion will end if i'm president of the united states. >> but romney's winning streak was being broken tonight. like santorum, ron paul focused on the caucus state. newt gingrich gave up. he headed to ohio, hoping to save his campaign with a win on super tuesday in a month. it's three weeks until arizona and michigan, and it's rick santorum's turn to try to keep his momentum and become the conservative alternative to romney. i'm steve handelsman, nbc news,

washington. some breaking news now in n anondale, virginia where a major road has been blocked. jackie bensen just got to the scene. jackie? >> reporter: this is all due to a power outage, and at the height of t 5400 customers, a very widespread area, were without electricity in this area. you can see the pole behind me. these are the support wires for the power lines. we're told at about 6:30 tonight, those snapped, plunging a large area into darkness here. now, a spokesperson for dominion virginia power tells us they were able to work fairly quickly, get power restored to most of those homes. they do tell us that 66 homes will be without power until tomorrow morning, and as you can see braddock road in this area remains blocked. it is likely to remain blocked for some time. jackie bensen, news4.

thanks, jackie. fire chased shoppers out of a grocery store in spring hill tonight. it happened at a shop rite store. flames shot out of it as the sprinklers came on. nobody was injured. the store will be closed tomorrow. a fire at a church in the district. flames broke out at miles c and e church on n street near the convention center. the ceiling inside the church was damaged. no one was inside and there are no injuries to report here. pennsylvania avenue may never be the same. tonight all of washington is talking about the deal that will bring trump to town. wendy rieger is here with details. wendy? >> this may be the only way mcdonald gets to pennsylvania avenue. it's a deal with the donald and the trump organization that will transform the old post office with the likes of the plaza

hotel. this old post office sits on prime real estate right between the capitol, and they will redo that space with 150 rooms and conference room facilities. they hope to make it a place for guests, all the while preserving its iconic features. the trump organization will preserve the historic nature of this building and improve the vitality of pennsylvania avenue. this redevelopment represents good business sense on behalf of the american taxpayer, the federal government and the district of columbia. construction is expected to start in 2014 with completion sometime in 2016, and when it's done, the old post office will be renamed trump international hotel, of course. >> of course. >> of course. back to you.

>> nankthanks, wendy. >> there is mixed reaction tonight to a federal court ruling that california's same sex marriage ban is unconstitutional. a lot of people are celebrating the ruling as all signs now point to the supreme court having the final say. conservatives are not happy. mitt romney said in his words the unelected judges cast aside the will of the people. newt gingrich said if the supreme court agrees, it would ignite a constitutional crisis of the first order. >> the d.c. council today voted in favor of a bill to make it easier for same-sex couples to get divorced. right now at least one spouse must live in the district. this bill would make it possible for neither to live in the city to finalize a divorce. the bill still needs a final vote and the sittignature of ma gray. tonight the mayor admitted he made mistakes and he takes full responsibility for the scandal in his first year in office. during the state of the district

address tonight, the mayor said the government must be transparent and that it's time to start earning back the trust of the people. he mentioned an ethics pledge that he made his cabinets sign, and he outlined a plan for all other city employees going forward. >> in the months to come, every district employee will be required to sign this pledge. as i have demonstrated as recently as yesterday, we have no tolerance of fraud or malfeasance in the district government. >> mayor gray says it also must be important for all residents to feel safe in their neighborhoods and that even petty crime would not be tolerated. opening statements are expected tomorrow in a high-profile murder trial involving two former university of virginia lacrosse players. george huguely of chevy chase, maryland is accused of beating to death his girlfriend yeardley love. today the pool of potential jurors was narrowed to 28. the jury is expected to be finalized tomorrow morning.

huguely has pleaded not guilty to first-degree murder in the case. there were strong emotions tonight as dozens of people gathered to remember 23-year-old gentlem japarker jones. someone stabbed her at a bus stop last week. friends and family remembered her as a jengentle and loving person. her killer is still out there. recovering from carbon monoxide poisoning. a two-year-old's trip to the hospital is responsible for saving all their lives. the child was rushed to the hospital after will father thought she had a seizure. a doctor, however, discovered high levels of carbon monoxide in their blood. when the calls went unanswered, a neighbor went over to see the family. >> she went over and saw an individual unconscious in the home. apparently she broke into the home and they instructed her to start pulling people out of the

house. the treatment for carbon monoxide poisoning is really to remove people from the exposure. >> firefighters believe a faulty natural gas furnace may be to blame here. big crowd in new york city today for the parade celebrating the giants super bowl win. that parade went right through what's called the canyon of heroes. it's renewing an effort for similar ticker tape parade to honor iraq war veterans. president obama will host 200 vets at a special white house dinner later this month. but veterans organizations want a more grand scale organization like this one next month in st. louis. >> how do you pick which 200 of the 1 million applicants get to go to that? i just came from the giants parade downtown and it's open to the public. so anyone who wants to go can show their respect and gratitude for these veterans. >> meyer michael bloomberg voices his support for a parade, but officials at the pentagon

ten hand grenade a man arrived in his vacation home to find squatters inside. police say he was storing guns and drugs in-house. it was evacuated until those grenades could be removed. almost everybody has had strep throat at some point. usually a few days of antibiotics take care of it. they're finding in some children strep infection may be causing obsessive come pulse sieve disorder so severe the children are unable to function. emily lorett says the nightmare started four years ago when her daughter woke up in the middle of the night a totally different child. >> she wanted to touch everything. it was like a literal, immediate onset of just severe ocd of a

touching ocd. >> soon she developed tics where her whole body would spasm. lorett said for eight months doctors struggled to figure out what was wrong, and soon her other daughter melody started acting strangely, too. they noticed her symptoms started after being sick with strep throat. >> i didn't think anything about it. i thought, she has strep. by thanksgiving, she was no longer able to do her schoolwork. >> sometimes i have to do stuff over and over. it just wasn't good enough or right or something. >> the girls were finally diagnosed with pandas, pediatric autoimmu autoimmune. elizabeth latimer has treated 100 cases of pandas in the area.

it could be genetics or possibly a severe strain of strep. >> these kids are very, very sick. they do extremely impulsive things. >> latimer says symptoms develop suddenly. they include severe ocd, tics, separation anxietity and obsessive thoughts. they give patients long-term antibiotic, steroids and special treatments to clean out the blood. >> today in dr. latimer's office, 12-year-old molly conley is undergoing another treatment which replaces some of the blood's plasma. listening to her talk about it, you can hear the impact. >> i was like hitting my ears like that. >> hopefully -- another

high today, 56 degrees. just a beautiful tuesday out there. advertised 45, so once again, 10 degrees above average, and today was the 28th day at 55 degrees or better this winter. simply amazing how warm we have been. but we're about to turn at least a little bit of a corner. right now 42 degrees with the winds out of the northeast at 9 miles per hour. that's the key. that northeasterly wind is going to start bringing temperatures down just a little bit. down to 36 right now in gaithersburg, 35 in maryland, 33 in annapolis. winchester coming in with a temperature at 34 degrees. don't expect anything when you wake up tomorrow morning. the storm itself is still well back to the west right around st. louis, and it is making its way to the east. you can see st. louis started with some rain and then switched over to snow the last couple of hours. they're going to see a little in wait of accumulation, too, and that whole system will continue to make its way our way overnight tonight. what can you expect from this storm? tomorrow morning, 6:30, waking

up, walking out the door, maybe driving around the beltway, you're going to be fine. i'm not worried about any snow or rain at least early in the morning. the morning rush hour should be a-okay. what about lunchtime? we'll take you through 11:00. washington, the i-95 corridor still okay. back to the west, that's where we could see light to moderate snow beginning and light snow moving into parts of our county, fairfax, into loudon county. this will all move into the west and some computer models trying to keep washington all snow now. it's not going to affect our totals that much but you may not see much of a mix. even down to the south, southern maryland i expect this to be mostly rain for you, but look toward waldorf. that's where the mix would be. annapolis, all snow here, too, so we have to see how much cold gets in here until 11:00 tomorrow when it pushes on out of here. here's your snowfall forecast as

we make our way through the night tonight and into the day tomorrow. two inches well to the north and west. i-81 north and west but also includes portions of montgomery county. montgomery and western fairfax county, a coating to an inch on i-95 east and in extreme southern maryland we're talking mostly rain from this storm. once again tomorrow morning, don't worry about anything, but tomorrow afternoon you may want to think about leaving a little bitterly or just giving yourself a little extra time during rush hour tomorrow night. 44 on thursday as the sun returns, 50 on friday with a beautiful day, then the really cold air sets in. saturday, high of 35, and i think the wind chill with a little bit of light snow could be in the upper teens to lower 20s just about all day long. not only do we have a little shot here, we have a big shot of some real winter weather coming up just in time for the weekend. >> so tomorrow is a preview. >> maybe a little preview but maybe a white preview. >> coming up in sports, the caps

they really needed to win. the question now is, how did they do? >> they got it. it was turn back the clock time for the capitals tonight. it was a fun game to watch. we saw the 2009 version of alex ovechkin. at least for a night the grade 8 was back. the division leading in the house and the caps thumped him. ovechkin had his first goal since he's been back from injury. he wasn't completely healthy.
