and we get a first look inside her beverly hills hoelgt room. troubled video put on the internet as a man is now facing a lawsuit. brittany norwood, the moment police realized she had made up the story in lululemon and her response getting caught in her own lie. new jersey will be the center of a week of tributes and remembrances here on the east coast. funeral plans are already being set while the investigation into her death back in california is really just beginning. angie gauthier with more on that. >> reporter: houston is whitney houston's home state, and we've learned that an escort will travel with her body to the funeral home tonight.

her funeral will then be held friday at the prudential center in newark which holds 800. prescription pill bottles were found in the hotel where houston's body was discovered. authorities are not really ruling on an official cause of death. photos allegedly show houston's room with her last meal and the bathroom. nbc news has not independently verified the authenticity of these photos. fans across the country are remembering her for her extraordinary voice. dozens of people gathered today for a vigil, and the apollo theatre put her name in its marquee. one fan set up a memorial at the duke center fountain. >> i think it's showing that no matter how high up you are,

someone higher up has a lower self-esteem. you never know what people are going through. >> it could be six weeks until the official toxicology report comes back to determine a cause of death. meanwhile, according to the atlantic, as of this afternoon, fans recorded 640,000 whitney houston radio stations. that's more than 500,000 the day following the death of michael jackson. jim? a sheriff's deputy from loudoun county appeared in court from a lawsuit stemming from a violent encounter while on duty. this is video put on youtube from the attorney for carlos garcia. it shows garcia standing with his hands in the air at a shopping mall in loudoun county in 2009. video then shows the deputy apparently hit garcia in the head. garcia sued deputy terry daniel in november saying the incident caused a brain injury. news4 spoke with a woman at daniel's house tonight saying he's trying to hire a lawyer and won't comment until he finds

one. tonight a police standoff in upper marlboro is over. police said it all started when a man threatened his neighbor with a shotgun. it happened on silver teal way. the man ran back into his house and four hours later finally surrendered to police. he will undergo a psychological evaluation. in northern virginia, vdot is making it a top priority to make sure that a highway sign doesn't fall. right now engineers are trying to figure out how and why a 30-foot sign fell onto a truck. it happened on saturday during heavy winds on i-66 near monument drive. the driver of the pickup, scott lester from the front rural area, was not injured. vdot is also currently in the process of putting together a list of similar signs so engineers can inspect those as well. a temporary sign will go up at that spot tomorrow. tonight we're getting an inside look at the moments detectives working the lululemon

murder case discovered something was very wrong with brittany norwood's story. jackie bensen has the extraordinary access inside the interrogation. >> i tried to get away from him and -- >> reporter: brittany norwood is hysterical in a hospital room interview conducted afterward when she claimed two men broke into the lululemon story and sexually assaulted her and jayna murray before killing murray. in an interview the next day, she is much calmer. >> do you know what jayna was struck by? >> i do not know. i couldn't see. >> reporter: detectives know based on forensics that norwood has been in murray's car which she admits in an astonishing revelation. >> i was tired of him sexually assaulting me. they made me move her car.

>> the detective started to become more skeptical. >> you left out some things. how did they go about telling you you had to move the car, okay? you were there. >> i know, i was there. >> people would ask, why didn't you just keep on going? >> norwood would ooereventually confess to killing her coworker and making up an elaborate lie to cover it up. in her first interview she made a prophetic remark. brittany norwood is currently serving a life sentence in prison. a carbon monoxide leak sent 16 people to the hospital in bethesda. the 11 adults and four children will be all right. tonight people there are back in their apartments, but they won't

have any heat until the furnace there is fixed. outside tonight, temperatures are dipping but not like we've seen the past few nights. doug, what's the latest? >> the latest right now, we're watching the storm system that's just off to the west right now, and if you were to take a look at this radar right now, you would be thinking to yourself, hey, we've got some rain and snow trying to make its way our way, and that is true, the trying to make its way our way. but this is not the storm that i'm going to be talking about in my forecast. i've got a couple of storms out there, one that has some rain, another that could have some snow. all of that coming up in my seven-day forecast in just a couple minutes. >> thank you, doug. a big crowd in annapolis tonight. hunds hundreds of gay marriage supporters are outside the capital. he says he needs to get a few more lawmakers on board in order to move the bill to the house of delegates. in virginia house of delegates a formal vote is expected tomorrow on the

so-called personhood bill that defines life starting at conception. lawmakers gave preliminary approval today. delegate bob marshall from princeton county is that bill's sponsor. marshall made it clear his ultimate goal is to outlaw abortion. a masked man armed with a machete robbed steven briar and his family while they were on vacation in the caribbean. he was inside his vacation house on the island of nemes. while he wasn't injured, the robber did get away with about 1,000 in cash. a medical examiner testified in the yeardley love murder trial in charlottesville. george huguely of chevy chase, maryland has been charged with her murder. the defense says it was an accident. today the m.e. testified that love was brutzised from head to toe. he said it also appears she was

smother smothered. the prosecution is key to the fact that huguely was angry, broke into her apartment and put a pillow over her head. two people were arrested after still dangling from the bridge. hundreds of people rallied in the park to continue the free tibet demonstration. they opposed the visit of the vice president who meets with president obama tomorrow. president obama is pushing an ambitious college to turn community colleges into trade centers. the budget the president sent to congress has an $8 billion proposal to help community colleges train students for jobs for the future. the man who held a speech in annandale fell into that category. his name is mike phillips. he is now taking classes at northern virginia community

billion ahead of exxon. tonight there is a dangerous shortage of a drug used to treat a rare form of cancer in children. the drug is called methotrexate. and doctors are urging pharmaceutical companies to boost production. it's used to fight leukemia, and with the drug, they can cure about 90% of patients. right now there is only about a two-week supply left in the entire country. this has patients and their parents very concerned. >> i can only hope that supplies last, and it's just not for my son, it's for, you know, the next family that walks through the doors of this hospital also. >> the shortage is due in large part to problems at a plant in ohio. that plant shut down voluntarily because of quality control problems. still ahead tonight, a valentine's day boycott of hershey's. we'll tell you what happened at

getting paid to go to class. seniors at a charter school there will be awarded with a $25 gift card each week that they have good attendance and stay out of trouble. underclass kids can earn a $10 gift card. on top of that, $5 will also go into a savings account that the students can cash in when they graduate. the money comes from the school's partner, easter seals, and some private donations. members of an hiv awareness advocacy group are calling for valentine's day boycott of hershey's chocolate. it's part of a protest against the prestigious milt on school who recently denied admission to an honor student because the student is hiv positive. they denied it, saying they were concerned about the health of its students. the school is a private school for low income families. the boy's family is suing. love is not in the air

reached 50 degrees. that is a beautiful shot there. low this morning was 24, and it felt like 33 degrees warmer this afternoon than it did yesterday afternoon. i'm talking about the wind chill, of course. we saw wind chill of about 17 when we saw a high temperature today of 50 degrees. that is a lot warmer when you make your way out across the area this afternoon. we did see plenty of sunshine earlier. now we're seeing a cloud cover move on in here with dew points now at 26 degrees. a 40-degree temperature. that's a very dry atmosphere. only 58% relative humidity. we have some moisture trying to make its way in here but can't do it with all of this dry air. winchester 30. culpepper area 30, and 34 in la plat a. temperatures were still warmer than they were all day today in some spots. rain and snow in some upper levels of the atmosphere, but none of this is reaching the ground this year, atime, and i

expect it to. this is a little finger of moisture trying to move its way in here, but this is the rain and snow to the west, and this is all very light and this is all going to translate offshore to an even bigger storm that's going to stay well offshore, so most of this moisture is going to miss us completely. i do expect to see a couple flurries during the morning tomorrow in some locations north and west, maybe a couple sprinkles late in the afternoon. here's that storm system and here's that storm just off the coast. watch how this one kind of wraps itself up and moves up the coast while the other one just kind of fades away. don't expect a lot in the way of rain and snow tomorrow, but i do expect wednesday to be nice. some high clouds moving in a held of our next system, but i do expect went to be beautiful. here comes thursday and another big storm. it will be all rain. i think we'll move back into the low 50s in most locations, so at least we're talking about a mild rain, but some of us could see moderate to heavy down pours from time to time with this next

storm system. that will move on out, however. then we've got one that could affect us during the weekend, and this is one we really have to watch. cloudy and cool tomorrow morning. possible flurries in some locations. 27 to about 34 degrees. the best chance of flurries will be to the north and west. they will not cause any problems tomorrow. tomorrow afternoon a few p.m. sprir sprinkles in parts of the area, but once again, it won't cause any rain. there's that beautiful wednesday forecast with a high of 53 but then right back into rain on thursday with plenty of cloud cover. breezy on friday with a high of 50 and then watching this weekend, we're going to watch this storm very closely. most of the storms of this type have stayed to our south, and if it stays up the coast a little bit, it could be a real chance for some snow and we simply have not had that at all. so we'll continue to watch for you right here. >> could be interesting. all right. thank you, doug. we have an update on our top story tonight about whitney houston. her remains have been flown from california to new jersey and now

a fairfax county teenager with a resilient spirit is about to have her story acknowledged in congress. her name is maureen marsh. a couple years ago she was diagnosed with a rare form of bone cancer. the disease was discovered by players on her team where she was a freshman. >> from her perspective, volleyball saved her life. maybe if she weren't pushing herself, she would have thought it was just some irritation. >> maureen needed surgery to
