doug? >> you are, jim. i do think most areas should see at least some flakes out of this. this is not going to be a huge storm by any means but it probably has the potential to at least be the biggest storm we've seen so far. once again this winter that is not saying a whole lot. 45 degrees the current temperature with the winds out of the south about 7 miles per hour. current readings not too bad. 45 right now in manassas. over towards culpepper and up toward leesburg and gaithersburg. current temperatures there right now at 43 degrees. there is the rain that made its way through the area today. some locations picking up a half inch of rain, quarter to half inch of rain. now that rain continues to move off to the east. so most of us will be on the dry side as we make our way through the rest of the night tonight. our current storm that could make its way in here is way out to the west back toward phoenix, arizona. that's the one that is going to make its way all the way across the country, pick up some gulf moisture, and then make its way off the coast if there is enough cold air and we get some of that moisture we have some snow. i'll talk about who has the greatest impact or who could see

>> the republican presidential race, a new poll shows rick santorum has a slight edge over mitt romney in the next major contest, which is michigan. >> joining us now is "meet the press" moderator david gregory. with all of romney's money, all of his organization, why can't he separate himself from the rest of the pack? >> that is the question they're asking within the romney campaign. it is a question the republicans are asking up and down this field. that's the problem. you know, why can't he put these other two guys away? well, the big answer, big reason why is he doesn't appear to be running a conservative primary campaign. and that's what rick santorum is doing. romney is not connecting with voters. he's not ewiuniting the republi party. that's why michigan has become so important. you know, south carolina, florida. now it's michigan. if he can't win michigan there is going to be some real question about what is going to happen in this nomination. >> wasn't his father the governor of michigan? >> sure. a native son there and he won it four years ago, launched his campaign there four years ago
6:08 pm
but things have changed. the auto bailout thing doesn't play as well and he is having a hard time with conservatives. >> going back to what's her name, bachmann, cain, perry, gingrich, are we now making too much of this santorum thing? he has put the rest of them to rest. why not this guy? >> it is the right question. none of us have gotten this race right yet so we should approach it with the appropriate amount of humility but it is down to a few candidates if you separate ron paul who has a libertarian following but less likely to get the nomination. one republican said to me this week the last thing romney wanted was a true ideological fight against a guy who is a plausible commander in chief. rick santorum was 16 years in the congress, six years in the armed services committee. conservatives look at this guy and say he could do this job and he, you know, knows what he believes. he appears authentic. these are the struggles that i think romney is having. can he grind it out? yes. >> is he going to get the nomination after all of this is
6:09 pm
done? >> i think he is still the odds on favorite to do it. i just think money and organization matter. i think he can grind it out. i think he has to make some changes along the way. i wouldn't put that as a case closed not only could santorum surprise a lot of people, we've been wrong about this before, but i think if romney were to lose michigan you'll have people like a mitch daniels say, now wait a minute. there will be a lot of pressure to say what are we going to do because there is still so much time left here to get the appropriate amount of delegates. and don't forget, you know, you had a different situation in '08 when you had obama and you had clinton. both of whom were basically acceptable within the party and then they had to grind it out for a while and ultimately obama did it on a delegate, you know, strategy. >> who do you have coming up on sunday? >> well, we'll be talking to a local congressman chris van hollen, paul ryan about the economy and the budget. we have a great round table talking about the race. we hope to have one of the presidential candidates as well to talk more about this fight for michigan. >> too soon to tell whom.

fence. e we don't want to see that snow. e keep it from us all winter long. that is the way mother nature h has kept it away from us but now i think we are going to see a storm during the dine sunday. will it be a big one? no. is it going to be a nor'easter? yes. wh what is a nor'easter? sell simply a coastal storm that brings us northeasterly winds so it won't be a huge storm, not going to ride up the coast but we are going to watch it very, very closely over the next couple days. i right now you can see a little bit in the way of fog out there but not too bad. we have storm 4 radar showing some of that rain down to the south and east where it's going to stay in through portions of southern maryland and will p continue to move to the south and east over the next hour or two. we we'll start to see things cl clearing out by tomorrow. right now down to the south we're seeing some rain and toward the eastern shore right along route 50 through easton, cambridge, out toward ocean city, maryland. right about now. wider shot showing you where the rain is going and just how much

6:19 pm
be enough cold air? i don't think there will be at the start. so this storm coming up on saturday or sunday afternoon, probably after the noon hour, will start as rain i think in most locations. most loch%ions. the snow will start off to the west talking about west virginia, portions of western ma maryland and maybe even no northwestern portions of virginia mostly snow here and then that's the area that could see all snow with this event as the storm moves off and it becomes stronger and is able to drag in some of that colder air and hence the northeast winds. with that, we'll see that ending as snow in most locations. the question is still how much. will the system ride a little farther to the north giving us more moisture but more warmth? or will it stay down to the south keeping that snow line farther down to the south and that bulls eye area? still waiting to see exactly where the storm is going to go. tomorrow we have a much better a handle on this but that is my first guess as to who is going to see the snow. the impacts on this i'll have at 6:40 this evening. a few lingering showers this evening, fog forming in parts of the area. temperatures dropping through temperat%res dropping through the 40s.
