the cases stand and when we can expect a verdict. plus, prince harry continues his tropical tour. this morning the prince is in brazil. we'll tell you who has been giving the prince royal support. a good to take a peek behind the curtain of "smash" i caught up with stars of the show to find out why it's hitting right notes with viewers. can't wait for next monday. >> it's a fun shot. the plot is thickening. let's talk, first, about tense moments on the tarmac. passengers on an american airlines flight settling in when a flight attendant began a disturbing ramp on the p.a. michelle frandsen has the story. >> reporter: the trouble began on flight 2332 before take-off in dallas, just as the plane was leaving the gate and bound for chicago. >> i thought it might have been a reality show or something was going on because it didn't seem

real. >> reporter: passengers say that's when the flight attendant went on a rant over the p.a. system, demanding the pilot open the cockpit and turn around because the plane was going to crash. >> a lot 0 other incoherent statements trying to get in communication with the cockpit. it was almost as if she thought she was on the phone with them only. >> reporter: passenger video cap ture moment that followed, a veteran attendant. >> get out of my way! >> reporter: during the episode, passengers say she complained about the airline filing for bankruptcy reorganization, talked about a friend who died on 9/11, and said the plane wouldn't take off because it didn't have enough ice. she also mentioned she forgot to take her medicine for a mental disorder. when the pilot returns to the gate police were waiting. after taking her into custody she was taken to a local hospital. american airlines says the attendant is receiving the proper care. security experts say the incident shows how crew members

and passengers react and work together in a post-9/11 world. >> what we're seeing that is since 9/11 passengers are far more willing not to take mattered into their own hand but be active in responding to events insigh the airplane. >> reporter: once the plane with a new crew landed in chicago, passengers realized this incident could have been worse. >> really blessed that we hadn't left the ground. >> reporter: michelle franzen, nbc news, new york. joining us in the studio, shawn tabbert on the flight. >> good morning. >> what do you make of this? >> kind of a crazy event, you know, just a lady having a real bad day. >> but what it starts -- my understanding -- she starts trying to call the pilot but speaking on the p.a. >> exactly. >> when did you realize something was amiss here? >> once she started repeatingly trying to call the pilot saying, pilot, are you there, hello, hello? she went to spanish, ola, you

know, that's when the red flags started to get raised. >> when did the other flight attendants get up and realize there was a problem? >> it took her actually mentioning you know i'm not okay with this, i'm not responsible for this crash, and she set the microphone down. that's when the other attendants walked up, talk with her, tried to calm her down. >> you were sitting in the coach cabin. did you have a fairly clear view of what was happening up front? >> absolutely. you can see down the aisle. everyone was leaning in up. once the crash word was stated that's when everyone kind of reacted and -- >> i assume, you know the plan's not at risk of crashing but you're not expecting this to come oust a flight attendant. what's the reaction of the people around you? >> absolutely. there was two young kids sitting to my left and they got real worked up, mommy, is the plane going to crash? mom, can we get off of this?

what's going on? everyone else is like, what is this lady doing? what's go on right now. and just real i guess on edge. >> and then were you a witness to this, passengers and flight crew trying to restrain her? >> absolutely. i saw the people go up the aisle to help restrain her and hold her down and they said she was biting and scratching at them. and then once we got to the -- back to the terminal and the police came on, that's when she started really screaming loudly and, you know, almost demonically as she was getting taken off the plane. >> it's very sad. obviously she has real issues. did the pilot make any announcement as they're going to the get or did you think you were going to the runway at some point? >> no. that was i guess part of the problem because the pilot never responded to her. i think the pilot knew she was out of line. we kept on heading towards the

runway and then stopped when she got back on the p.a. said and said, no, pilot you're turning around right now, i'm in charge of this flight, you guys can get off my flight if you want to. >> when you saw other passengers get up, i mean, we all know it's a no-no now, obviously to get out of the seat while the plane is moving and certainly to go to the front of the aircraft, but did it seem like they had any other choice but to step? >> no. i guess we all knew what was going on. the entire crew understood that this lady's -- >> disturbed. >> -- just having a bad day. >> shawn, incredible story. thanks for coming on and talking to us. appreciate it. >> absolutely. >> here's amy. u.s. employers added 227,000 jobs last month capping off the best three months of hiring sin the start of the recession. here to break it all down for us is cnbc's brian schactman. good morning to you. >> good morning, amy. >> two headlines out of the jobs report. 227,000 new jobs added, unemployment unchanged at 8.3%.

it seems a bit contradictory, but are we headed in the right direction? >> you have job growth of 227,000, we talked about, it's over 700,000 in three months. why isn't the unemployment rate coming down? more people re-entered the workforce. so there are some economists out there that say that's healthy because people are optimistic and that's why it's 8.3%. it's interesting i talked to one economist yesterday, amy who said that if you want to bring down the unemployment rate you need 400,000, 500,000 a month. this is good news report but not great news because you need more to bring it down. >> the private sector added 223,000 job. where are those jobs coming from? >> 45,000 temp jobs. historically a lot of the transfer into a full-time jobs but in the laugh few years it hasn't been the case. business services, hospitality, which is good, people are take vacations, spending money the

downside, construction weak. which disappointing. government still losing jobs. >> another big downer, which may be drowning out the optimist ex-jobs report, and that is gas prices. we may reach $5 a gallon. >> people say who knows if $5 is on the table. we have had an incomfortable increase in prices and it's having an impact on consumer spending. yesterday we learned that wages aren't increasing enough to offset it. people spending more on fuel, less on other things that will drive the economy. >> which are not holding up to inflation. >> here's the case, increasing in gas prices has slowed only 25, 30 cents higher than a year ago. at these levels it won't derail the recovery. if we go to $4 for three months, all bets are off. >> brian schactman, thanks so much. appreciate it. here's lester. as the presidential race heats up, many contenders are revealing secret weapon in the

and mommy blogger was arrested after she allegedly offered a friend up to $2,000 to kill her firefighter husband adrian martinez. in january she told steven rowland, a manager at this restaurant she was having marital problems and wanted the father of her children dead. she came back with a down payment of $5,000. >> she was going to provide more once the husband was deceased. roland told authorities she returned later with another $500 and suggested that he carry out the murder at her husband's fire station. >> she provided vehicle description, work schedules, license plate, told were cameras were going to will located in the parking lot. >> reporter: the alleged crime shocked neighbors who described martinez as a loving mom. >> was looking at news going, oh, my gosh, it's her. >> reporter: more conflicts in

sheridan is entering its final days. a jury of 12 will ke side on the case early next week. nbc's michael taibbi has the details about the dirty lapp dri flying out in court. >> reporter: 49-year-old nicollette sheridan, friday was a day for her wrongful termination claim. he said repeadedly what she called a hard hit to the head was a tap to show the scene. they called it a miss communication between giving the actress direction. as to when to kill off her character edi britt. >> i know him quite well. we're kind of doing it. >> reporter: abc entertainment chief steve mcphearson said he approved killing edi off in 2008, four months before the hitting incident. still the legal team testified

again there are no memos or e-mails to back that up. >> we feel good. the jury ultimately decides but we feel good. >> reporter: on screen her character and ter ya hatcher's season were at each other. but she said she was critical of her and other stars. they said she was late half the time and he revealed a character. he revealed that james' character is going to be killed off this sunday and there were gasps in the courtroom. >> for "today," mike taibbi, nbc news, los angeles. the "desperate housewives" trial as it is known is just one high-profile case going on. here to weigh in on that and others is legal analyst sunny hostin. good morning. >> good morning. >> let's talk about that.

what does the jury have to hone on in this case? >> they have to hone in on was she wrongly terminateded. did they terminate her because she was a terrible employee or because of her complaints about her boss physically assaulting her. that's the question. i think that's where the jury system comes in. bottom line, they get to determine credibility, they get to determine who is right, and that's how our system works and it's rt a great system. the jury has sat in, gets to determine body language and determine who they believe. i want to turn to another case. john goodman a well known palm beach man. he settled a case with a victi victim's case. >> i don't think it's going to affect the trial because there's sort of a gag order in the case, so this jury shouldn't hear about the details of the

civilian suit. this family, scott wilson's family, has been so persistent in seeking justice for their son. they've sued other people, they've been successful there. they sued the bar goodman was drinking at before he got into the zibl e accident. so this case very much has been driven by the love of parents and so i don't think it's going to come into the trial but really, kudos, to these parents because they've been not only pressing the civil case. they have been in the courtroom for the criminal case day in and day out, and this is a really fascinating case because apparently goodman hit their son's car with his bentley after drinking many, many, many, many times at a bar and left their son to drown in a canal when his car flipped ore. at least that's the prosecution's allegation. >> i want to turn to a case closer to this area. the rutgers's webcam trial as it is known. he observed his roommate with another gay man. it's an invasion of priefrscy

case and more importantly the prosecution is trying to suggest there was a hate crime here. i sat in on a couple of days of this trial. it seems like a high bar for the prosecution. >> it is. this trial is really breaking ground. it's a bias intimidation case, a hate crime case, and it really hinges on the use of social media and whether or not this young man, you know, dar va rehab rabbi intimidated him. it's one of the few cases that the prosecution has to prove what was in his head. what motivated him to spy on his roommate. the defense is saying this is a young immature kid. he wasn't motivated by hate. he was motivated buy curiosity. maybe he wanted to big man on campus. he was a freshman at the time. so i do thing it's going be a rf dl case for the prosecution to prove because these hate crimes
